Title: Tile sleeves
Post by: ma_Rysia on February 17, 2013, 05:52:46 AM
Hi,

I would like to ask if anybody from the forum bought or are planning to buy the sleeves for tiles from Swan (http://swanpanasiasleeves.com/premium-sleeves/swan-prem-adhesive-sleeves-47x47-mm-carcassonne-tile-100-per-pack.html). If so could you please provide some pictures and maybe review?

I am willing to byu theses sleeves for my tiles especially to print the watermarks on them instead of the tiles, but because of shipping cost to the Europe, only the larger orders are cost-effective.

I had no idea there was such a thing as tile sleeves. :o

Those QR Code labels are interesting too.

@Ratz65
The sleeves that I mentioned are protectors for tiles not stickers. I would like to stick on them only same kind of watermark for GQ#11 (and same other expansions) and put the tiles inside so the tiles are untouched by sticker.

@Scott
They are pretty new think - available on marker from February/

Wow what nice finds! The QR scanner labels could bring a whole new dynamic of interaction to the game. And it's inexpensive enough to at least test them out.

Do tell us how it is like on the actual tiles!

Sleeves for Carc?  Not exactly practical do you think?  The different expansions don't fit together perfectly as it is,  but to wrap all the tiles in plastic too.  Plus I sometimes play BIG games with like 1000 tiles, that sounds costly to outfit them all.

But each to their own.

I suppose it depends on how you see it. Don't get me wrong, I am with you on this.  :meeple: Mostly thinking of the money I save not buying protective gear is money I can invest in more tiles.
One has to consider, though, what is cheaper? Buying new tiles or getting sleeves. In my case I feel like I rather enjoy the naked tiles as (at the moment) most of my tiles I can go out and buy again because they are almost as cheap as the sleeves (if they were to be sold in a local store).

Exactly.  These aren't magic cards or something, the tiles are pretty durable.  The only tiles of mine that have even a little wear are the base set.  But I've had and been playing with them since 2000!

But I see your point, if somebody only had say the base game and they didn't have the cash to replace the whole set, then sleeves might be the way to go for them.

My mind just boggled at the idea of getting and adding sleeves to like a THOUSAND tiles.  :o

Laugh. Probably a lot cheaper buying a HUGE cloth sack pulling tiles out of.  :meeple:

Hmmm...I can almost see the point in this. I mean some expansions are just about irreplaceable...and the tiles do wear, especially if you use a draw bag. Some of my base tiles are fairly worn and we've gone back to stacking them on the table even though some of the backs are different. I would not want my Cathars and Crop Circles, for example, to get looking as bad as some of my base tiles.

I wonder how the tiles would fit together when sleeved?

I'd be surprised if they fit together well.  But can't judge until you've tried, right.

Personally I don't use a cloth bag when playing, I fill up two of the towers with tiles and stack the rest in rows in a Carc box cover, stick them in when needed.

According to dice tower, the sleeves are sealable.  ??? I guess i will probably buy 1 pack to test it out when it s available (it is currently on pre-order)

1 pack is about $4 and there are 100 sleeves in each pack. So i guess, it 's quite affordable? (they are premium sleeves)

How can the tiles fit neatly together when playing a game (with or without a seal)?

Hello, i have found out that there are currently two types of Carcassonne sleeves available from Swanpan asia.

There is the 'thin' quality which comes in packs of 160 is already available for sale in some stores and the Premium quality sleeves which comes in packs of 100 are still on preorder. Both types of sleeves are adhesive. (which means can be sealed)

The following pictures are the 'thin' quality sleeves.

The words translates roughly to 'The excessive parts of the flap can be cut away'

Huh, interesting.  Perhaps they would be okay with a small game, though I'd bet it would get difficult to keep them aligned in a really big game.  I'm of the mind that if you have Carc tiles you're worried about wearing out then you should just use a proxy for them during friendly gaming.  I certainly have a lot of extra tiles that could stand in, oh yeah!  ;D

I think if you trimmed away the edges, the sleeve would come open.

Ditto!
I've been thinking about getting sleeves for quite sometime.  Without sleeves, I am reluctant to take rarer tiles to other people's place, where they may have drinks on the table, or dirty hands from eating with their fingers.

I think if you trimmed away the edges, the sleeve would come open.

I don't think they mean to cut away the hem or seam - but rather the part of the sealing flap that sticks out past the tile.

Still it's the hem or seam not fitting tightly to the edge of the tile that I can see would keep a separation between the tiles - so the tiles would not butt to one another nicely. I guess it's a trade-off for wanting to protect your valuable tiles.

...where they may have drinks on the table, or dirty hands from eating with their fingers.

Haha - no drinks on the table rule for us - too many bad experiences.  :(

No drinks or food on the play table for us either. My most important rule. That's why we have sidetables, but I won't allow anything but beverages. I even, though not always, enforce washing their hands before play.  :meeple:

I'm not lazy but the time it would take to cover my complete set would drive me crazy...I mean, I could be spending the time playing Carcassonne!  ;)
