Title: Carcassonne Central: Advent Quiz MMXX
Post by: Meepledrone on November 30, 2020, 06:55:37 AM
Hi all,

For those unaware of what it is really going on, I will just break it for you: Christmas is coming!!! Again... So does Winter... at least in the Northern Hemisphere!

In preparation of the coming events, here at Carcassonne Central, a lot is happening behind the scenes. The Meeple Council is in session discussing whether frozen meeples should considered as Phantoms...

This is just a smoke screen, because the real agenda for today is...

The Advent Calendar Quiz MMXX

Stay tuned, because tomorrow you have a date... Ahem... a date with DESTINY!

Difficult? Don't think so!!!  ;)

But wait! The Meeple Council has been interrupted all of a sudden by an unexpected visit...

- The Grinch: ...And with this all the Christmas Season will be sorted out successfully... No hassle, everybody loses...  >:D
- Santa Claus: Again, that is not the spirit!  :o
- The Grinch: And we could also add some custom til... (stops abruptly and looks angrily at the two meeples before them)
- Meepledrone: Sorry to interrupt, but we have a situation here!
- The Grinch: Meepledrone, you are the situation... You think you can do as you please???  >:D
- Meepledrone: Er... I'm so sorry... I wasn't my intention... (voice fading)
- Santa Claus: Don't be so harsh with the guy. Let him speak.
- The Grinch: Did he anything to earn our respect? Anything at all?
- Danisthirty: Well, last year, he... (interrupted)
- The Grinch: (Sharply) Last year, nothing,... This lazy meeple is always asking questions and doing nothing profitable...  >:(
- Snowman: Last summer, he also... (interrupted)
- The Grinch: (Sharply) Last summer, nothing,... Don't want to hear another word about it...
- Easter Bunny: May I go to the bathroom?
- The Grinch: NO  >:(
- Fir Tree: I am Groot!
- The Grinch: NO WAY  >:(
- Meepledrone: But...
- The Grinch: Don't you ever speak to me with your mouth open!!!  >:(
- Meepledrone: :o
- The Grinch: (Turning suddenly to Dorothy) But, look what the cat brought in... Tell me, lady meeple, what are you doing here? ;D
- The Grinch: Excuse my temper! They are like kids... Are you lost?
- Dorothy:Yes
- Gingerbread Man: Are you hungry?
- The Grinch: I wouldn't go there...  >:D
- Gingerbread Man: :o

- Santa Claus: You are not from around here, right?
- Dorothy: No, I'm from Kansas... from the strip where the USA West & East Maps overlap...
- Santa Claus: And how did you arrive here?
- Dorothy: I was in a Big Box 6 game and chose to use a flying machine. But something went awfully wrong.
- Easter Bunny: Oh my! the flying machine was rigged.  :o

- Dorothy: I would like to go back home. Will you help me?
- Snowman: But we don't know where Kansas is...
- Danisthirty: The Winter Edition is nice but you don't travel much.
- Fir Tree: I AM Groot!
- Santa Claus: We will have to find a way to help you...
- Gingerbread Man: The magic portal to go back broke down two weeks ago and we have no insurance coverage
- The Grinch: This leaves us one solution only...  >:D
- Easter Bunny: How can you be so mean? I can't believe this is happening...
- The Grinch: YES, mwahahaha!  >:D
- Meepledrone: Oh noooooo!
- Dorothy: What's happening?
- Gingerbread Man: I'm going to faint...  :o
- Santa Claus: Dorothy, you will have to follow the Yellow Brick Scoreboard.
- The Grinch: Follow it to pay a visit to the Wizard of Carcassonne in Emerald City. He is the only one who can help you so you can be back home for Christmas...
- The Grinch: No time to lose... Meepledrone, take Dorothy to the beginning of the scoreboard.
- Danisthirty: We will help you with one question a day during this long journey... You have to be ready when you meet the Wizard...
- Easter Bunny: Bon voyage!
- Snowman: Hurry up! It is now or never...
- Dorothy: Thank you all, you are very kind!
- The Grinch: Don't call me names!
- Dorothy: :o

What will be the outcome of this adventure? Will Dorothy get back home in time? We'll know soon.

- Meepledrone: In order to help Dorothy, you will have to follow certain rules...
- Danisthirty: Here you are a brief recap of the rules for the Carcassonne Central Advent Quiz!!! An excerpt of a summary of an excerpt...

Quote
:red-meeple: Between the 1st and 24th December I will post a small Carcassonne scoring question each day (at a random time), to which the answer will be points scored by one or more players according to the question.

:yellow-meeple: When you know the answer, don't post it on this thread! :-X Because then everyone will know, and we don't want that. Instead, send Meepledrone a PM including the question number and your answer for that day. He won't respond to your PM (please don't be offended), but if you get the answer correct you will win one or more quiz points depending on how many others have answered it correctly before you:

1st correct answer5 points
2nd correct answer4 points
3rd correct answer3 points
4th correct answer2 points
All subsequent correct answers   1 point

:green-meeple: There's no cut-off date for any particular questions so don't despair if you miss any. You can even answer all 24 questions on Christmas eve if you want, but don't expect to score big overall...

:blue-meeple: Once Christmas and boxing day are behind us, I will post the correct answers – one at a time – along with who won the big points (or indeed any points) and total scores per participant. This is where it gets really fun! :o :(y)

:black-meeple: The overall winner will be the person with the most points at the end of the quiz, but there is likely to be a small prize for everyone who answers all questions regardless of whether they manage to answer any of them correctly. It will be a surprise. O:-)

Any questions, please ask now. Otherwise, you can expect question 1 of 24 sometime on December 1st! O0

- Danisthirty: So now you know. I hired Meepledrone for menial administrative tasks. So be ready for some small Carcassonne scoring questions, one per day. The Meeple Council has already delivered and has selected 24 questions in various levels of complexity according to the number of expansions involved (from 1 to ...
- Gingerbread Man: My questions are the cutest ever!
- Danisthirty: Will you let me finish???
- Gingerbread Man: Uhmmm... OK
- Danisthirty: Were was I? Ah yes! The levels of difficulty go from 1 to 4
- The Grinch: Tsk tsk... You are wrong... I added Level 5... You will be overwhe...
- Danisthirty: Wait!! I hear your dog bark...
- The Grinch: ....OK... I'm off.
- Danisthirty: ...  ::)
- The Grinch: ...  ???
- Danisthirty: OK. Thank you for leaving! Uff...
- Snowman: (In the background) OMG! I left my Winter Edition questions outside the freezer and they melted... again...  :o
- Santa Claus: (In the background) Nooo, Not again...  >:(
- Snowman: (In the background) My rules in paper got soaked. What do I do now...?
- Santa Claus: (In the background) *Sigh* You can use WICA...  ::)
- Danisthirty: Everything is under control, I expect you all December 1st.... Ciaaaaaaoooooo!  ;D

- Meepledrone: (distant voice) Has anyone been messing around with the prizes?
- Dorothy: OK. Question #1 was just a warm-up, right? Is that all the Carcassonne training I can get?
- The Grinch: (distant voice approaching) What is missing?
- Snowman: Er... Nope, that's not all, young grashopper!
- The Grinch: (to Dorothy) Darling, you ain't seen nothing yet...  (pausing)

- Dorothy: What was all that fuzz about the Spiel'20 promo tile?
- Santa Claus: Well, it's part of the reward to the brave participant who helps you most in this tough quest of yours.
- Dorothy: Really?
- Santa Claus: The Grinch is a bit obsessed with that particular tile...
- Easter Bunny: Oh no! Another "MY PRECIOOOOOUSSSS" phase? Again?
- Dorothy: What?  :o
- Easter Bunny: He already ate all my Easter egg reserves for next year...  >:(
- Santa Claus: Just give him some random CRRR tile so he can gnaw on it for a while...
- Dorothy: Yuck! Not even the dragon does that...
- Easter Bunny: The Christmas Season is sooooooo stressful for him.
- Santa Claus: (gasping)  :o

- The Grinch: (storming in) I would say pain and deception!  >:D
- Danisthirty: I see your humor has improved today.
- The Grinch: Yes, I've been piercing tokens with my teeth.
- Dorothy: (to Danisthirty) Is he like this all the time?
- Danisthirty: Bah! He is just trying to nice... more than usual!
- Fir Tree: (the wind passes)  ;)

Important reminder for the participants

- Meepledrone: No large meeple was used in Question #9 (or in any other to avoid any possible confusion). It may seem so due to the perspective in this case.
- Danisthirty: I am a full grown meeple. I am the same size as a large meeple, that is, 19mm high.
- Meepledrone: By the way, you can always send your answers to questions from previous days.
- Danisthirty: That's right! If you forgot, you spotted a mistake or you changed your mind, do not hesitate to send Meepledrone a new answer.
- Meepledrone: Yes, I'll be delighted to process them all... (whispering) for a good salary bump!

- The Grinch: What a night!
- Fir Tree: I am GROOT!
- Snowman: How can you say that?
- Dorothy: The Gingerbread Man was kicking ass at the karaoke place?
- Fir Tree: (an owl hoots twice) ;D
- The Grinch: No mercy! Those meddling Mini Meeples deserve it! Their ears must be burning by now...
- Snowman: Fir Tree, you have to teach me how you do that whistling thing!!!
- Dorothy: How disgusting! It's a pity the dragon traveled south on vacation!
- Snowman: Leave it alone! It gives me the shivers!
- The Grinch: I'd love to be in your icy shoes to know how it feels...
- Snowman: (shuddering) ???
- Dorothy: You really have a knack for upsetting people, right? I admire that!
- The Grinch: (gasping) :o
- Snowman: Toto! Please leave Fir Tree alone!
- Snowman: (to Dorothy) Can you do something about it?
- Dorothy: Why should I? It's not chewing anyone's arm this time!
- Snowman: Poor Orange Mini Meeple!
- Dorothy: He was asking for it. He will sing in tune next time...
- The Grinch: You are reaaaaally something!
- Dorothy: You know nothing, Grinch Snow! You know nothing!
- The Grinch: (staring at Dorothy)  :o
- Fir Tree: (a twig cracks the silence)  >:D
- Snowman: (staring at Dorothy too) Er... Shall... we proceed with the next question?

Question #12: The Snowman places this tile, which completes a road connected to Leipzig through a village. It is Red's turn, who would like to send his meeple to Leipzig, to the Wainwrights quarter. How many points does each player score?

Note: You may assume the Fairy was placed in the current turn or in a previous one. No problem.

I think this question should be corrected.
It is impossible to have the red meeple and the fairy together on the just placed tile.

- Meepledrone: No harm done... in any case.
- Snowman: You know that Red 4 is always looking for attention.
- Meepledrone: Yes, sir!
- Snowman: And you see that when the Fairy is next to him, he thinks he's entitled to anything! Yes, the dragon is one thing but the rules have their limits!
- Meepledrone: Yes, sir!
- Fairy: Will you please shut up? We are busy here...
- Red Meeple: Going to Leipzig is not a piece of cake.
- Meepledrone: Come on! We all saw you at the the karaoke place... Move to the adjacent tile. NOW!
- Red Meeple: OK! OK!
- Fairy: Lawyer up, Red... These guys are up to something!

Do double Leipzig market tiles on completing a monastery count as one or two tiles? I ask this question because I find a contradiction between what is expressed on Wikicarpedia and carcopedia 1.7. Should it be treated like the German castles of the new version, thus counting as two separate tiles?
For street counting it is clearly indicated that it counts as a card.

- Meepledrone: Carcopedia 1.7 is reflects the latest official clarifications from 10/2015. WICA uses the same approach for the C1 pages (you count tiles) and uses the 2020 update for monasteries (and German castles for the sake of consistency) derived from the latest Halfling rules (you count occupied spaces).
- Meepledrone: Bottomline: You can use the approach you prefer. Off the record, I personally and robotically prefer the C1 approach since it is more consistent, that is, there are no special cases during scoring as in C2. ;)

- Tin Man: Yes, I spent the night watching over the tile.
- Lion: Inspector, the witness is here!
- Scarecrow: Good evening! Thank you for stopping by.
- Tin Man: No problem. Anything I can help... (interrupted)
- Scarecrow: Liar! You stole the tile!!!  >:(
- Tin Man:  :o
- Lion: You replaced it with a replica of the portrait from the Meeple Council Hall...
- Tin Man: How could have I done it?... I've paralyzed for 3 days.
- Scarecrow: How do you explain it was robbed while you where standing next to it?
- Lion: You have an ACCOMPLICE!
- Tin Man: WHAAAT?
- Scarecrow: We found this green ribbon next to the tile!!!
- Lion: Confess! It's YOURS...
- Tin Man: Yes, I use it to decorate my axe. How could you tell?  >:D ... COME ON!
- Scarecrow: It must have fallen from his pocket....
- Tin Man: Pocket? What pocket?  ???
- Lion: I suspect that this guy is a heartless bandit.
- Tin Man: And you are a brainless scarecrow and you a cowardly lion!
- Scarecrow:  Is our cover is blown?
- Lion: (shaking) :o

- Dorothy: What is all that fuzz?
- Snowman: The police officers are questioning Tin Man.
- Santa Claus: Who? Scarecrow and Lion?
- Snowman: Yep...
- Santa Claus: This is a cold cose in the making! Time to time!
- Dorothy: Do they really suck that much?
- Snowman: :-X
- Santa Claus: :-X
- Dorothy: Okaaaaay, let's see todays's question!

Question #13: Santa Claus places this tile. What is the highest number of points each player can score after deploying meeples from the city of Carcassonne? Just in case anyone is interested, it is Yellow's turn.

- Danisthirty: What did you learn yesterday?
- Dorothy: Uhmmm... That the Count is very shy?
- Danisthirty: ::)
- The Grinch: Mwahahaha! Not a chance.
- Dorothy: Was he playing hide and seek?
- Danisthirty: NOOOO... Didn't he?  ???
- The Grinch: Someone bribed him...  >:D
- Dorothy: How could you tell?
- The Grinch: He spent the whole day in the cathedral praying for forgiveness I daresay!
- Danisthirty: Come on!
- The Grinch: The castle or market districts are far more fun!  8)
- Dorothy: I think you are making it all up!
- Danisthirty: You doubt it?  ;)
- The Grinch: I love to sow the seeds of doubt in your little wooden heads.  >:D
- Dorothy: (to Danisthirty) This is a dejà vu, right?  ???
- The Grinch: (Storming away) This is intolerable! I'm off... Some Meeple Meeples need to be kicked in their butts, both front and back. >:(
- Danisthirty: Now we recovered our inner peace for a while, let's see the next question!
- Dorothy: Are you ready, Toto?

Question #14: After Danisthirty places this tile, how many points does each player score, if any?
Title: Re: Carcassonne Central: Advent Quiz MMXX

- The Grinch: Well, well, well!
- Fir Tree: (a bird chirps)
- The Grinch: ???
- Dorothy: What's up?
- The Grinch: The Fir Tree just got a tweet!
- Dorothy: How is that unusual?
- The Grinch: Really?... I see, you are also on Instaplant and Plantagram, right?
- Dorothy: Nope, on Treenstagram!
- The Grinch: :o
- Dorothy:  8)
- The Grinch: This reminds me I have a message for you!  >:D
- Dorothy: (in a low voice) I feel nothing good may come from this...

Question #15: The Yellow Messenger landed on a dark space. As a result, Yellow  receives the message shown by
The Grinch. How many points does Yellow score for this message when applied to this feature?

- Dorothy: Hello, officers!
- Scarecrow: Identify yourself!
- Lion: Hello, Dorothy!
- Scarecrow: Do you know her?
- Lion: Yes, she invited us to cookies yesterday.
- Scarecrow: Sure? I'm very good at remembering faces. ???
- Snowman: Seeing is believing.  :o
- Dorothy: Crispy crackers!... Er... Any news about the missing tile?
- Scarecrow: Yes!
- Lion: No!
- Scarecrow: We know nothing yet... (to Lion) Keep looking over there, I will look around here.
- Lion: OK... Hope I don't find any fleas. They are soooo scary. Ciao!
- Snowman: This is so reassuring...  :-\
- Dorothy: Indeed, indeed...

- Yellow Robber: This is not fair.
- Red Messenger: Yes, we feel discriminated.
- Santa Claus: What's wrong with you today?
- Dorothy: But if you are the protagonists today!  ;D
- Red Robber: Yes, at last. We have an opportunity to shine.
- Santa Claus: That's the spirit!  :(y) :(y)
- Yellow Robber: Well, they all look at us with suspicion.
- Red Robber: We work part time... an get only half of what we are entitled to.  :(
- Yellow Robber: Yes, but rounded up.
- Dorothy: Ohhhhhh... That makes a big difference.
- Red Messenger: Otherwise, the would go empty handed with the fairy point!
- Santa Claus: Well, guys! Therapy time is up. Remember, next time we will discuss messages and dark spaces.
- Red Messenger: (in tears) Thank you. Thank you!
- Dorothy: (to Santa Claus) I see, even special figures on the scoreboard deserve to let some steam out.
- Santa Claus: Yes. The scoreboard is a lonely place without a view. Thank you for your support.
- Dorothy: Any time.

Question #17: Santa Claus places this tile. How will manage Red and Yellow to be robbed the least points possible? How many points will each player score?

- Scarecrow: Any expansions?
- Danisthirty: How is that relevant?  :-\
- Scarecrow: Very!
- Danisthirty: The Flea and the Dragon! I was eaten 4 times. :'(
- Dorothy:  ???
- Lion: That's.... terrifying!!
- Scarecrow: By fire or by the plague?
- Danisthirty: Neither, I was burnt at the stake once... bitten by snakes... and beheaded twice... I would have preferred to be chewed up by the dragon but...
- Lion: (speechless) :o
- Scarecrow: (speechless) :o
- Dorothy: (whispering) You are making this all up, right?
- Danisthirty: (whispering) Yep... They were asking for it...  >:D
- Danisthirty: Officers, do you want to see my scars?
- Lion: (gasping for air) :o
- Scarecrow: (still speechless) :o

- Lion: (still speechless) :o
- Scarecrow: (soft gurggling) :o

- Meeple Mole: Certainly! Of course! Do you like it?

- Dorothy: Don't be so soft on him! He is a criminal!
- Lion: No presumption of innocence in Kansas, right?  ???
- Dorothy: What's that? (to Tin Man) The Pencil Sharpener of Death is too good for you!
- Lion: (faints) :o
- Gingerbread Man: Come on, run for your life!
- Tin Man: I can't. :(
- Dorothy: Don't move! You'll be reduced to shreds for Christmas!  >:D
- Gingerbread Man: Plead for mercy to the Wizard of Carcassonne. Hurry, no time to lose!

- Snowman: I don't know... Someone must have left it stuck in the back of my neck while I was in my beauty freezing session.
- Lion: Let's powder it. Maybe it has some meeple arm prints on it. We have to take the letter to the lab right now.
- Scarecrow: (whispering) Are you sure?
- Lion: (whispering back) No! But it sounded very professional.
- Dorothy: You should be certain before making any accusations...
- Scarecrow: (to Gingerbread Man) In any case, do no leave town. You are a suspect now.

- Wicked Witch of the West: Look into your wooden heart... That evil in you comes from an ancient lineage...
- Frankie Stein: We have come back to finish your training.
- Wicked Witch of the West: We been watching you... and all these... miserable meeples! Nothing naughty can come from them. >:D
- Frankie Stein: Come with us!
- The Grinch: Will you teach me how to win always no matter what?
- Wicked Witch of the West: YEEEES! And always with cheeto fingers...
- Frankie Stein: Tiles taste niceeeeer! :P
- Wicked Witch of the West: You will... (interrupted)

A house falls from the sky and crushes the Wicked Witch of the West with a great blast:

- Frankie Stein: (coughing) Crippled Meeples! My bitter WWW, are you okay?
- Wicked Witch of the West: (speaking slowly with muffled voice) What do you think? My face itches and I can't scratch me...
- Scarecrow: (shaking off the dust) I would say that is normal in our case but... (interrupted)
- The Grinch: Mother, MOTHER! Somebody call a doctor!
- Dorothy: How did my house from Kansas... end up here?  :o
- Lion:  (pulling himself together after the blast) Look!
- Scarecrow: What's up?  ???
- Lion: Her red slippers are gone! And there is another green ribbon instead!
- Santa Claus: Can anybody help me get her from under that farmhouse?
- Wicked Witch of the West: (with muffled voice) Wait! This plumbling needs some fixing badly!

- Dorothy: Yes, I should had known. The plumbing... (interrupted)
- Santa Claus: NOOOO. I was talking about this wave of robberies...  :(
- Dorothy: Ahem... sorry... yes. It's baffling... In plain sight.
- Santa Claus: I hope officers Scarecrow and Lion can solve this singular case...
- Dorothy: Well, let's see that question you had for me.  ::)

Question #22: The game ended. How many points does each player score in this scenario Santa Claus has put together for you?

- Danisthirty: Well, this is my last question! Hope you enjoy it...
- Dorothy: WHAAAT? That is the stolen Spiel'20 tile!!!  :o
- Red Mini Meeple: Yes! :))
- Yellow Mini Meeple:  It is soooo coool!
- Danisthirty: We found it!  :(y) :(y)
- Blue Mini Meeple: Do you want to know how we found it? >:D
- Orange Mini Meeple: We used all our deduction skills.
- Yellow Mini Meeple: We analyzed all the clues available.
- Red Mini Meeple: We even perused the Yellow Pages phone book cover to cover! 8)
- Dorothy: How's that? :o
- Blue Mini Meeple: We were bored to death...  :'(
- Danisthirty: Ahem, ahem!... To say truth, I was teaching these little rascals how to count tiles...
- Orange Mini Meeple: And I asked about hills!  ^-^
- Danisthirty: So we went to the scenario from Day 5 and we found the stolen tile hidden face down underneath the hill.
- Blue Mini Meeple: Cool, huh?
- Dorothy: Did you call the officers?
- Yellow Mini Meeple: Yes, we did it a while ago, but officer Scarecrow picked up the phone...
- Red Mini Meeple: (all giggling) We all know what that means...
- Danisthirty: Kids, please... >:(
- Blue Mini Meeple: Perhaps do you think they'll find the culprit for all this mess, mister?
- Danisthirty: (automatic response) No!...  :o ... (Not very convinced) Er!... I mean... yes... They could really use some help... :-\
- Dorothy: At least the stolen tile is back... The participants will get their prize in the end.  ;D
- Red Mini Meeple: That's awesome!!!... Can we get over with the question, please? Come ooooon.... We want to play Dragon-Meeple-Fairy! (1)
- Yellow Mini Meeple: Best idea ever! ^-^

Hi davide,

There are no green meeples. There are red, yellow and blue. Do you need me to tag them?

Cheers!
I wondered about this too - if green or red or both were present - in earlier questions too.
Good to know as ever that Meepledrone is looking after us all.
+1 merit from me for remembering to account for colourblindness.

- Scarecrow: Thank you, Wizard!
- Wizard of Carcassonne: (looking back with utmost disdain) Ahem ahem!  >:(
- Dorothy: Thank you, oh almighty Wizard of Carcassonne...
- Wizard of Carcassonne: (slowly) That's more like it!
- Wizard of Carcassonne: I invited the most honorable Meeple Council and all the figures involved in the Advent Quiz.
- Wizard of Carcassonne: Close the doors until I say so.
- Blue Meeple: (murmuring) I have to go back to my owner's supply.
- Yellow Wagon: (whispering) I can't stay long. I have to move to another feature.
- Red Meeple: (whispering back) The sooner you shut up, the sooner this will be over.

- Wizard of Carcassonne: SILENCE!  >:(
- Wizard of Carcassonne: As you all know, the Spiel'20 tile was stolen on Day 5 under Tin Man's watch. It was hidden under a hill tile and was found by Danisthirty and the Mini Meeples by chance on Day 23.
- Wizard of Carcassonne: A green ribbon was left behind at the crime scene on Day 5 and another one was found on Day 22 after the Wicked Witch of the West suffered an unfortunate accident...
- Lion: (interrupting) How is she?
- Wizard of Carcassonne: (another disdainful look)  >:(
- Lion: Sorry for interrupting.  :-X
- Wizard of Carcassonne: She is fine. She only has a splintered ankle. DrMeeple attended to her.
- Wicked Witch of the West: Hey I'm here! You can ask me. Shall I can convert you into a sheep token?
- Lion: Shhhhh! :(
- Wizard of Carcassonne: When the dust settled, her red slippers were gone.
- Wizard of Carcassonne: Officer Scarecrow received an anonymous letter with his own writing accusing the Gingerbread Man... but it was signed by Baba Yaga.
- Tin Man: How can that be? Who is that?
- Wizard of Carcassonne: (another disdainful look) >:(
- Wizard of Carcassonne: I will come to that later. Baba Yaga is the Wicked Witch of the West's maiden name.
- The Mini Meeples and Scarecrow: Ooooooooooh! :o
- Wizard of Carcassonne: Ahem ahem!
- Scarecrow: (muttering) Sorry!
- Wizard of Carcassonne: On top of this mess, the interference of The Wicked Witch of the West and Frankie Stein disguised as Dorothy was adding some noise to the picture.
- Wizard of Carcassonne: They were trying to spy on their kid, The Grinch! But their actions seemed to set things in motion on Day 5.
- Wizard of Carcassonne: They also facilitated the escape of Tin Man on Day 19.
- Wicked Witch of the West: Thanks for the recap, honey, but we want to solve all this mysteries. They already replied to your questions. Will you cut to the chase?

- Wizard of Carcassonne: (pulling himself together) I lay the truth before you ...
- Wizard of Carcassonne: Guards, apprehend the Red Phantom.
- Red Phantom: (struggling) This is outrageous!
- Wizard of Carcassonne: You wanted to ruin the Advent Quiz since the beginning.
- Wizard of Carcassonne: You are not the Red Phantom, you paid him a vacation to Carcassonne. You are actually the White Phantom!
- Fir Tree: I'm AM GROOT! >:(
- Easter Bunny: How is it possible?
- Red Phantom: You can't prove that! Mwahahaahah!
- The Grinch: Hey, don't steal my lines!
- Wizard of Carcassonne: But you couldn't control all the details. You couldn't prevent Danisthirty and the Mini Meeples from finding the stolen tile....
- Wizard of Carcassonne: By the way, the real Red Phantom sent me a postcard from the city of Carcassonne with the Count.  >:D
- Red Phantom: Blimey!
- Wizard of Carcassonne: You used your almost invisibility to steal the Spiel'20 tile at night.
- Wizard of Carcassonne: You also "suggested" the Scarecrow to write the anonymous note... He would not remember later in any case.
- Scarecrow: Oh dear! Now I remember...
- Wizard of Carcassonne: And you tried to frame the Wicked Witch of the West by planting false evidence.
- Wizard of Carcassonne: Finally, you also stole her red slippers to disguise as the Red Phantom!
- The Audience: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

- Tin Man: You, nasty meeple! I'm so grateful, oh almighty Wizard of Carcassonne!
- Easter Bunny: I'm in shock! Did you steal any of my Easter eggs? Tell me!
- Wizard of Carcassonne: So, Tin Man, you are free to go...
- Lion: Fear not, I will take the White Phantom to prison myself and return the red slippers.
- Dorothy: And what about me?
- Wizard of Carcassonne: (to Dorothy) If you want to go back to Kansas, you may have called an Uber a few days ago. Nobody told you?  >:D
- Dorothy:  :o

- Snowman: How exciting!
- Fir Tree: I AM GROOOOT!
- Santa Claus: Remember that the scoring scenarios happen mainly during a game except those indicated as happening after the game, featuring the scoring of a field, a barn or a German Castle, for example.
- Meepledrone: I've ignored the scoring after the game provided in those cases where only scoring during the game was necessary.
- Easter Bunny: The figures belonging to the Meeple Council are just a decoration... (whispering) Don't tell The Grinch.
- The Grinch: (approaching) I'm here! Tell me what?
- Meepledrone: (continuing quickly) They don't represent a particular turn or player color.
- Gingerbread Man: We just indicate the number of expansions featured (tiles or figures) in the scenario.
- Meepledrone: I assumed C2 rules for Halflings but I will also consider valid those answers with old rules.
- Danisthirty: Cheers and good luck to the participants!
- The Grinch: May I leak the winner to the press?  >:D
- The rest of the Meeple Council: NOOOO!  >:(

Question #1: The Gingerbread Man completes these two cities. How many points does Yellow score?

Answer #1: There are two possible answers depending of the scoring rules applied to Halflings:
* C1 rules (updated version in 10/2015): 2 triangle tiles in a square space = 2 tiles
* C2 rules: 2 triangle tiles in a square space = 1 tile

This post shows the last clarification by HiG updating the scoring rules for Halflings in C1:

http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2125.msg29727#msg29727 (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2125.msg29727#msg29727)

But later, HiG provided clarifications with additional changes for C2 (overriding the latest rules for C1 and returning to the original ones from 2014):

https://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=5021.msg74239#msg74239 (https://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=5021.msg74239#msg74239)

C1 Halflings rules:

The tile completes two cities at the same time:
* Yellow scores 12 points for the larger city, which has 2 Halfling tiles, 3 square tiles and 1 coat of arms (5 tiles x 2 points + 1 coat of arms x 2 points = 12 points).
* Yellow scores 4 points for the small city (2 tiles x 2 points = 4 points).

Bottomline:
- Yellow scores 16 points in two separate scoring events (12 points for the larger city + 4 points for the small city).

C2 Halflings rules:

For those applying the old Halfling rules (2 Halfling tiles are counted as 1 tile), the results would be as follows:
* Yellow scores 10 points for the larger city, which has 2 Halfling tiles (counted as 1 tile), 3 square tiles and 1 coat of arms (4 tiles x 2 points + 1 coat of arms x 2 points = 10 points).
* Yellow scores 4 points for the small city (2 tiles x 2 points = 4 points).

Bottomline:
- Yellow scores 14 points in two separate scoring events (10 points for the larger city + 4 points for the small city).

EDIT: Updated to cover rules updates from 2021:
* The C1 rules reflect the latest Halflings rules according to the clarifications from 10/2015.
* The C2 rules were clarified in 1/2021 returning to the original intent of the ones provided in 2014.

Question #2: The Snowman completes this road. How many points does Yellow score?

Answer #2: The completed road has 5 tiles (The Spiel'20 tile is counted only once even if the road passes through it twice). The Yellow meeple is placed on a road segment on the watchtower tile that cannot be seen. So the the scoring will follow these steps:
1. You score the watchtower at the end of the completed road first for the Yellow meeple: 2 neighboring tiles with city segments / 1 point per tile = 2 points.
2. You score the road itself: 5 tiles x 1 point per tile = 5 points

Bottomline:
- Yellow scores 7 points in two separate scoring events (2 points for the watchtowers + 5 points for the road).

Question #3: Santa Claus placed this tile wishing you the best for Christmas... How many points will score each meeple?

Answer #3: The Peasant Revolts tile will affect any unprotected meeple placed on a monastic building. In this case, the Yellow Meeple will be removed without scoring any points as soon as the tile is drawn.

The resulting scenario then shows:
1. A completed road occupied by the Blue Meeple, that scores 5 points (5 tiles x 1 point per tile)
2. An unoccupied completed monastery worth 12 points (9 points for the monastery + 3 points for the adjacent vineyard)
3. A castle occupied by the Red Meeple that is also completed by the previous two features. Both of them overlap the castle fief. So both of them trigger the scoring of the castle even if the monastery is unoccupied. The player occupying the castle may choose to score the points for only one of these two features: either 5 points for the road or 12 points for the unoccupied monastery.

Bottomline:
* Blue scores 5 points
* Red scores either 5 points for the road or 12 points for the monastery plus the adjacent vineyard, according to Red's decision.
* Yellow scores no points, it is returned to  its owner's supply.

Note: Blue and Yellow would like to thank all those participants who only allowed Red to score 5 points for their castle. Unless they wanted to receive a message, those missed 7 points can be of great help in a real game. Remember that unoccupied features also trigger the scoring of a castle. :)

Question #4: How many points does each player score after Danisthirty places this tile?

Answer #4: This question combines the following elements:
* A completed road occupied by the Blue Meeple where we have to consider:
  - An inn
  - A German cathedral where the road ends twice
  - A German castle
* A completed German cathedral occupied by the Red Meeple with two completed roads:
  - The road occupied by the Blue Meeple
  - An unoccupied 2-tile road connecting  the German cathedral and the German castle

1) Scoring the completed road occupied by the Blue Meeple:

Blue Meeple will score [ (4 square tiles + 1 double-sized tile + 2 road segments on the German cathedral tile) x (1 point / tile + 1 point for the German cathedral + 1 point for the inn) ] + 3 points for the German castle  = [ (4 + 1 + 2) x 3 ] + 3 = (7 x 3) + 3 = 21 + 3 = 24 points

Note that each road segment on the German cathedral tile is considered separately.

2) Scoring the German cathedral occupied by the Red Meeple

Each road is scored independently and their points added together.

2a) The road occupied by Blue Meeple is scored for the archbishop considering:
- the inn
- the road segments on the German cathedral tile considered separately
This road is then worth (4 square tiles + 1 double-sized tile + 2 road segments on the German cathedral tile) x (1 point / tile + 1 point for the inn) = (4 + 1 + 2) x (1 + 1) = 7 x 2 = 14 points

2b) The 2-tile road

This road is worth (1 double-sized tile + 1 road segment on the German cathedral tile) x 1 point / tile = (1 + 1) x 1 = 2 x 1 = 2 points.

So, the Red Meeple scores 14 + 2 = 16 points for the German cathedral.

Note that the German castle bonus does not apply when scoring the roads connected to a German cathedral. Archbishops only care about plain roads and possible inns on them.

Bottomline:
* Blue scores 24 points for the road
* Red scores 16 points for the German cathedral

hi, I did not understand why the monastery was not occupied, it is not a German or Dutch monastery, so I thought it was marked, occupied by yellow, could you clarify this doubt?

No problem!

The monastery in Question #3 is occupied by Yellow when the turn starts, but the Peasant Revolts tile drawn by the active player (see bottom right corner) affects unprotected meeples on monasteries.

As a result, as soon as the tile is drawn, the Yellow Meeple is removed from the monastery.  Then the tile is placed.

At this moment, only the Red Meeple and the Blue Meeple remain on the board.

The trick here is that a castle can score points for an unoccupied feature that was just completed. This is the case of the monastery just vacated by the Peasant Revolts tile.

Did I answer your question?

True. Bonus on roads will be or not will be but you can’t decide some yes and some no like little buildings for example yes but german castle not...

The rules of German Cathedrals are written with the base game and Inns & Cathedrals in mind only. You can check the interaction here and especially the scoring summary in footnote #3:
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Cathedrals_in_Germany#Inns_and_Cathedrals (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Cathedrals_in_Germany#Inns_and_Cathedrals)

The fact that German castles are not considered when scoring the roads for the archbishop was confirmed in some "riddles" Kettlefish created after discussing the rules with HiG. Pay special attention to these two scoring riddles combining German cathedrals and German castles (click on the images to magnify them):

Question #5: The The Grinch places this tile and places Red's barn. How many points does each player score in this case?

Answer #5: The placement of the barn causes the scoring of the field. Both Red and Yellow have one meeple each in the field but the Red Ringmaster is placed on a hill tile, so the tie is broken in Red's favor.

So, only Red scores 9 points for the field:
1) The completed city is worth 4 points (3 points + 1 point for the pig)
2) The castle is worth 5 points (4 points + 1 point for the pig)

Additionally, the Red Ringmaster will also score 2 ringmaster points for the circus space on the adjacent tile (1 circus space x 2 points).

On the other hand, Yellow will score no points for the field, since it doesn't have the majority.

The Yellow Castle Lord will not score any points either, since field scorings do not complete a castle.

As a result of the barn placement, the Red Ringmaster, the Red Pig and the Yellow Meeple in the field will return to their owners.

Bottomline:
- Red scores 11 points in two separate scoring events (9 points for the field + 2 ringmaster points)
- Yellow scores 0 points.

Question #6: The Gingerbread Man completed this road. How many points does each player score?

Note: The Yellow Meeple on the tower was placed on an earlier turn.

Answer #6: Red and Yellow share the majority in the road with one meeple each. So, both Red and Yellow score 5 points (5 tiles x 1 point / tile )

Notes:
* The Yellow Meeple on top of the tower does not affect the majority.
* The Yellow Meeple capping the tower does not allow any player to capture meeples with it.

Bottomline:
- Red scores 5 points
- Yellow scores 5 points

I am sure I will not win this year as I have been offline for quite some time at the end of the advent quiz.
But I am happy to see that I got at least the first seven questions right  ;D

And I am also happy to see that there is much more competition than last year.

Question #7: The Snowman just placed this tile triggering the scoring of the big top. How many points does each player receive?

Answer #7: Each player will score 3 points per meeple on the tiles neighboring the circus space. Castles overlapping those tiles should be considered as well.

This said, Blue will receive points for the Blue Farmer, Red will receive points for the Red Castle Lord and the Red Acrobat, and Yellow will receive points for the Yellow Acrobat.

Note that:
* The meeples on castles are considered as indicated in the rules (see the interactions with Exp. 8 - Bridges, Castles & Bazaars)
* The scoring of the big top happens at the end of the scoring phase, after all the completed features have been scored and the meeples on them have been removed. This is sequence of actions is relevant in some scenarios (as shown in the scoring example in the Exp. 10 rules), but this not the case. The meeples involved in the scoring stay where they are.
* The big top scoring does not trigger the scoring of castles.

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 3 points (1 meeple x 3 points)
- Red will score 6 points (2 meeples x 3 points)
- Yellow will score 3 points (1 meeple x 3 points)

Question #8: Santa Claus places this tile and completes the road. Check the active scoring tile for roads. How many points does each player receive?

Answer #8: The tile completes a road a 4-tile road affected by the Street Fair scoring tile. The completion of the road will also trigger the scoring of the tollhouse and the neighboring castle.

The tollhouse will be scored first considering the large toll: Blue will score 10 points (2 point for the farmhouse + 2 point for the highwaymen + 6 points for the group of travelers)

The road will be scored after the tollhouse: Yellow will score 8 points for the road (4 tiles x 2 points per tile for the Street Fair scoring tile).

The castle occupied by the Yellow Meeple will score the same points as the road. It does not get any points from the tollhouse. So, Yellow will score another 8 points for the castle.

Bottomline:
- Blue scores 10 points for the tollhouse.
- Yellow scores 16 points in two separate events (8 points for the road and another 8 points for the castle).

Question #9: Danisthirty completed this magnificent city. Check the current scoring tile for cities. How many points does each player score?

PS: There are no large meeples in this question.

Answer #9: The city has two coats of arms so there it a tie between the Yellow Mayor and the 2 Red Regular Meeples. So both players score for the city.

Note that the city has 8 tiles, but two of them present semicircular segments discarded by the Bad Neighborhood scoring tile, so they will not be considered for the basic city scoring:
* The CFRR tile with the Yellow Mayor will not be considered in the tile count for the city.
* The CCFF tile with the Red Meeple at the far end will not be considered either since both semicircular segments are ignored.

The city is worth 32 points (24 points for the city itself + 8 points for the mage):
* Basic city scoring: (6 tiles + 2 coat of arms) x (2 points + 1 point for the cathedral) = 8 x 3 = 24 points
* Mage bonus = 8 tiles x 1 point = 8 points

Bottomline:
- Red scores 32 points
- Yellow scores 32 points

Question #10: How many points does each player score after The Grinch completed this road?

Note: Let's use the advanced variant rules for the Labyrinth!

Answer #10: There are two events happening in this scenario: The road network is completed but also the field with the shepherd is completely surrounded so its has to be scored too. The shepherd is scored in phase 2. Placing a meeple and the road is scored in phase 3. Scoring a feature.

We will explain here the result applying the rules for C1 Halflings (as clarified in 10/2015). At the end, we explain the difference with the results if applying the rules for C2 Halflings (as clarified in 1/2021).

C1 Halflings rules

1) Scoring the shepherd

Red extends the field with their shepherd. Then he/she may grow their flock or score it right away. If Red grows their flock, it will be scored anyway, since tile completes the field (it is completely surrounded by city, road segments and the exterior of the labyrinth).

Note: I was interested in the scoring of the shepherd no matter what. So option a) was good enough for the answer. Congrats to those considering all the options.  :(y) :(y)

The following actions may happen:
a) Red score the shepherd right away and receive 6 points (3 points for the sheep tokens + 3 points for the printed sheep).
b) Red grow your flock and draw a token with 1-4 sheep, and then score your shepherd receiving from 7 to 10 points depending on the token you draw (3 points for the sheep tokens + 3 points for the printed sheep + 1-4 points for the sheep on the token just drawn).
c) Red grow your flock and draw a wolf token, so you score no points.

The shepherd will be removed and the sheep tokens will be returned to the cloth bag for future draws.

2) Scoring the road

The road has:
- 10 tiles (including two Halfling tiles sharing the same space)
- 1 bathhouse
- 1 labyrinth tile
- 2 watchtowers

2.1) Scoring  watchtowers

Watchtowers are scored before the completed feature triggering their scoring.

There are two watchtowers on the road but only one with the Blue is scored. It complies with the requirement to be scored: the meeple on the watchtower tile is placed on a road segment belonging to the completed road. Note that the majority in the feature does not apply to watchtowers. The meeple on the watchtower tile received the bonus.

The other watchtower is not scored for this road, since there is no meeple placed on the road segment on the watchtower tile connected to the road network.

So, Blue will score 4 points, that is, 1 point per tile with road segments neighboring the watchtower. Those tiles include the watchtower tile itself, the labyrinth tile and two more tiles with roads.

2.2) Scoring the road network itself

Red has the majority in the road (2 meeples), since Yellow and Blue have only one meeple each. The Yellow Builder is not taken into consideration when calculating the majority. It is not a meeple.

So only Red will score points for the road network, which is worth 23 points (10 + 5 + 8 points):
* 10 points for the road (10 tiles x 1 point per tile). Note: The watchtower tile with the Blue Meeple is counted once even if it participates in the road network twice.
* 8 points for the meeples on the road network with the labyrinth (4 meeples x 2 points per meeple). Note the builder is not considered here, since it is not a meeple; it is a special figure.

No meeple will be moved to the bathhouse, since this scoring involves more than one meeple.

Bottomline:
- Blue scores 4 points for the watchtower.
- Red may score:
   a) 29 points in two separate scoring events and rounds of scoring (6 points for the shepherd and 23 points for the road), if the shepherd is scored right away.
   b) 30-33 points in two separate scoring events and rounds of scoring (7-10 points for the shepherd and 23 points for the road), if Red expands their flock and draws a sheep token.
   c) 23 points for the road, if Red expands their flock and draws a wolf token.
- Yellow scores no points.

C2 Halflings rules

If considering the C2 Halfling rules where two Halflings share the same square are counted as one tile. As a result, the scoring for the road would be 1 point less, since the road is scored as a 9-tile road.

Bottomline:
- Blue scores 4 points for the watchtower.
- Red may score:
   a) 28 points in two separate scoring events and rounds of scoring (6 points for the shepherd and 22 points for the road), if the shepherd is scored right away.
   b) 29-32 points in two separate scoring events and rounds of scoring (7-10 points for the shepherd and 22 points for the road), if Red expands their flock and draws a sheep token.
   c) 22 points for the road, if Red expands their flock and draws a wolf token.
- Yellow scores no points.

EDIT: Updated to consider the C2 rules as clarified in 1/2021.

The rules tell you to discard semicircular segments like the ones in the base game, that would be the same type you may use to build a castle. So you discard the tile for the basic scoring of the city if all the city segments contributed by the tile have this shape.

Quote
Bad Neighborhood | During the scoring of a city, these completing city segments (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/5/5d/Land_Surveyors_C2_Semicircular_City_Segment.png) are not part of the scoring and do not get you any points.

In this case, even if you discard the semicircular by error, you should consider the tile due to the other city segment on it.  >:D

Hope this helps.

Question #11: The Gingerbread Man closed this city. How many points does Yellow score?

Answer #11: The city has 8 tiles and 2 coats of arms. Yellow will score 20 points for it ( ( 8 tiles + 2 coat of arms ) x 2 points = 10 x 2 points ).

Note: Don't be fooled by tiles participating twice in the feature: the tile with the city overpass or the tile with two semicircular segments. They are counted only once.

Bottomline:
- Yellow will score 20 points for the city

Question #12: The Snowman places this tile, which completes a road connected to Leipzig through a village. It is Red's turn, who would like to send his meeple to Leipzig, to the Wainwrights quarter. How many points does each player score?

Answer #12: The tile placed completes the road occupied by Red and the monastery occupied by Blue. Red has a meeple on the road and decides to it to Leipzig (this is possible since the road just completed is connected to Leipzig through a village). Also the fairy could have been placed in this turn or in a previous one. Let's analyze each element separately.

1) The Fairy bonus at the beginning of Red's turn

There may be two scenarios:
a) The fairy was placed in a previous turn, so Red would score 1 bonus point
b) Red just placed the fairy in this turn, so Red would score no bonus point

2) Scoring the road

Since Red wants to send a meeple to Leipzig, Red scores 0 points for the road, that is, the player renounces to score the road. However Red scores the fairy scoring bonus, since the fairy was next to the meeple occupying the road being scored. So Red will score 3 points for the fairy.

Note: Red cannot score the Wainwrights quarter bonus right away, since it would require at least two Red Meeples on the road.

3) Scoring the monastery

Blue will score 9 points for the completed monastery.

Additionally, The players with meeples in the Bookbinders quarter in Leipzig will score the bonus. So Yellow and Blue will score 4 points each..

Notes:
* Scoring the monastery for 9 points follows the ruling for monasteries with tiles in other shapes like Halflings from 2014 and 2020, where a monastery is scored by occupied spaces no matter the tiles placed in those spaces. So the monastery is always worth 9 points in this grid-oriented approach. All the participants chose this approach.
* Another option would be to score the monastery by tiles, following the clarifications from 10/2015. In this case Blue would score 7 points for the monastery ( (2 double sized tiles + 5 square tiles)  x 1 point = 7 points)
* As clarified in a rules revision in 1/2022, the meeples are sent to Leipzig before the scoring takes place, so any meeple sent to Leipzig cannot receive the fairy 3-point scoring bonus (updated in 12/2022).

Bottomline:

>> Grid approach for scoring the monastery (C2 rules):

A) Fairy placed on a previous turn

- Red will score 4 points in two separate scoring events in two rounds of scoring (1 point for the fairy at the beginning of the turn and 3 points for the fairy during scoring) will score 1 point for the fairy at the beginning of the turn.
- Blue will score 13 points in two separate scoring events (9 points for the monastery and 4 points for the Bookbinders quarter bonus)
- Yellow scores 4 points for the Bookbinders quarter bonus too.

B) Fairy placed in this turn

- Red will score 3 points for the fairy no points.
- Blue will score 13 points in two separate scoring events (9 points for the monastery and 4 points for the Bookbinders quarter bonus)
- Yellow scores 4 points for the Bookbinders quarter bonus too.

>> Tile approach for scoring the monastery (C1 rules):

A) Fairy placed on a previous turn

- Red will score 4 points in two separate scoring events in two rounds of scoring (1 point for the fairy at the beginning of the turn and 3 points for the fairy during scoring) will score 1 point for the fairy at the beginning of the turn.
- Blue will score 11 points in two separate scoring events (7 points for the monastery and 4 points for the Bookbinders quarter bonus)
- Yellow scores 4 points for the Bookbinders quarter bonus too.

B) Fairy placed in this turn

- Red will score 3 points for the fairy no points.
- Blue will score 11 points in two separate scoring events (7 points for the monastery and 4 points for the Bookbinders quarter bonus)
- Yellow scores 4 points for the Bookbinders quarter bonus too.

Note on scoring for this question

Due to a misunderstanding of the rules, I initially considered that Red could score the Wainwrights quarter bonus when sending a meeple to that quarter in Leipzig. The wording of the Markets of Leipzig rules on WICA was correct, but the information on the Reference Pages covering the scoring during the game were reflecting the misinterpretation.

So I decided to award points to both options as if correct in order to be as fair as possible in this case. In the long run, this doesn't affect the final ranking for any participant, just the total points obtained.

Notes on answer update

This answer was updated in 12/2022 to accomadate a rules update affecting Markets of Leipzig, that affected the fairy points assigned to Red.

Question #13: Santa Claus places this tile. What is the highest number of points each player can score after deploying meeples from the city of Carcassonne? Just in case anyone is interested, it is Yellow's turn.

Answer #13: The placement of the tile completes two features:
* A city worth 17 points (16 points for the city + 1 point for the little building)
  - The city itself: (6 tiles + 2 coats of arms ) x 2 point = 8 x 2 = 16 points
  - The little building: 1 point for the shed (from Little Buildings)
* A road worth 6 points (5 points for the road + 1 point for the little building)
  - The road itself: 5 tiles x 1 point per tile = 5 points
  - The little building: 1 point for the shed (from Little Buildings)

Note that each feature being scored allows all the players in turn to redeploy as many of their meeples in Carcassonne to the feature being scored, as desired, even zero. In this case Yellow will be the last player to move meeples and has the last word in this case to control all the features and score the maximum number of points.

So let's explore two scenarios depending on whether the Yellow Mayor is deployed from Carcassonne:

A) When all the meeples in Carcassonne are redeployed:

In this case Yellow takes control of the city and the road:
  - The city would be occupied by the Yellow Mayor (with two majority votes thanks to the two coats of arms in the city), the Red Meeple (with one majority vote) and the Blue Meeple (with one majority vote too). So Yellow Mayor would score the city.
  - The unoccupied road would be controlled by the Yellow Meeple, the sole occupier deployed from Carcassonne.

So, the scoring would be as follows,
- Yellow would score 23 points as two separate scoring events (17 points for the city + 6 points for the road)
- Red would score 0 points
- Blue Meeple would score 0 points

Note: Players would obtain the same result if the Red Meeple is not redeployed in this case. Red, fearing for the worst case scenario against Yellow , could keep their meeple in Carcassonne.

B) If all the meeples in Carcassonne but the Yellow Mayor are redeployed:

It would be very bad for Yellow, who would only control the road. In this case, Red Meeple (with one majority vote) and the Blue Meeple (with one majority vote too) would share the city and score points for it, obtaining their maximum number of points.

So, the scoring would be as follows:
- Blue would score 17 points for the city.
- Red would score 17 points for the city.
- Yellow would score 6 points  for the road.

In this case, Red and Blue receive as many points as they can get. However this only can happen if Yellow allows it.

Note: Would you allow this to happen in a game if you were playing Yellow? If so, Yellow is giving away an advantage of 34 points to their two opponents: 17 points they are scoring for the city plus the 17 points Yellow did not to score.

Bottomline:
- Blue would score 17 points for the city for scenario B)
- Red would score 17 points for the city for scenario B)
- Yellow would score 23 points for scenario A)

Question #14: After Danisthirty places this tile, how many points does each player score, if any?

Answer #14: The Blue Abbot scores no points. It was just placed on an incomplete monastery.

The tile placed completes an unoccupied 2-tile road. Nobody scores for the road itself but it triggers the scoring of the castle occupied by the Yellow Mayor. The castle is entitled to receive 2 points for the completed road (2 tiles x 1 point per tile) but the Yellow Mayor cannot score those points since the castle is a feature with no coats of arms.

So the Yellow Mayor will score 0 points for the road but will be able to receive the fairy 3-point scoring bonus. This means that Yellow scores 3 points after all.

Additionally, the completion of the castle occupied by Yellow triggers the scoring of the castle occupied by Red, since the castles overlap each other's fiefs. The Red Castle Lord will also be entitled to score the same 2 points the previous castle was entitled to for the road. As a result, Red will score 2 points.

Notes:
* A key point here is the dissociation between the points a feature is worth and the points a meeple can score (the mayor effect so to speak). Castles see the points completed features are worth, even if the meeples on them cannot score those points (the Yellow Mayor in this case).
* Red will not be able to receive any points from the fairy. The fairy bonus is not part of the scoring of a feature but a bonus associated to a meeple.

Bottomline:
- Blue scores 0 points
- Red scores 2 points
- Yellow scores 3 points

Maybe the beginning of my wrong answers streak?  >:D

13: I did only explore the first scenario, the second seemed to unlogical to me, as yellow would never allow it  :o ???

14: I thought the second castle would get the same number of points than the first (without fairy of course), 0 points.
Here's a correction I have to make to the French order of play  ;)

Castles "clone" points for features, not points scored by figures. That why castles can score points for unoccupied features, but they don't receive points for bonuses to meeples. Otherwise it would be inconsistent.

Note by Meepledrone:

This post closes part of a discussion about the wrong interpretation of the rules for the Wainwrights quarter bonus in Question 12.

Check this topic for more information and the additional issues discussed about The Markets of Leipzig:
http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4956.0 (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4956.0)

Wainwrights quarter is overpowered  ;D ;D ;D I thought that case only applied when you had two meeples.  :P

Thanks for the info Meepledrone!

In Q12

Quote
* The Wainwrights quarter bonus, since Red can score the bonus right away in the same turn he sends a meeple to Wainwrights quarter in Leipzig. So Red will score 5 points for this bonus (5 tiles x 1 point per tile).

why?  :'(

This is a tricky thing in the rules:  >:D

Quote
If you send a meeple into the Wainwrights Quarter you will get the bonus points (see below) immediately.

Check the last sentence in first bullet after the example where a meeple is sent to Leipzig...
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Markets_of_Leipzig (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Markets_of_Leipzig)
Don't be cheat Meepledrone. The context says

‘If you have more than one meeple on the road you are allowed to send one of them to Leipzig. With the other(s) you can, however, score the points for the road [4]. If you send a meeple into the Wainwrights Quarter you will get the bonus points (see below) immediately.’

Therefore if you write one sentence followed by the other in that context you are talking about the case of more than 1 meeple on a road and that you place one in Leipzig. If what you want to say is that THAT ALWAYS HAPPENS and not only with the example of more than one meeple, you have to put the phrase apart at another point to differentiate it. Not point and followed ... Because it can lead to misinterpretation...

I think that both of you are right. I think the impression made in me by that post (the one I referenced above) made me interpret the rules in a wrong way. Thank you for pointing out the issue.  :(y) :(y)

As per the arrangement of the text, the sentence I quoted has to be considered only if you have more than one meeple on a road and you send one of them to Leipzig.

I will have to reevaluate Q12 accordingly. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Question #15: The Yellow Messenger landed on a dark space. As a result, Yellow receives the message shown by
The Grinch. How many points does Yellow score for this message when applied to this feature?

Answer #15: after receiving this message, Yellow will have to score the city as if after the game and remove the meeple.

Yellow will the score 5 points for the city:
- The city itself is worth 0 points ( 5 tiles x 0 points for the cathedral)
- The Mage bonus is 5 points ( 5 tiles x 1 point per tile for the mage )

Yellow will also receive 3 points for the fairy next to their meeple.

Notes:
* The German castle bonus is not applicable during final scoring.
* The Mage bonus is applied during the game and after the game for incomplete features, even if the incomplete feature scores 0 points due to an inn or a cathedral, like in this case. The Mage bonus is applied after the inn or cathedral.

Bottomline:
- Yellow scores 8 points in two scoring events (5 points for the city with the mage + 3 points for the fairy)

Final note: Yellow could also renounce to score any points for the feature and receive 2 points for the message instead. However this case is not the answer expected for this question.

Question #16: The Snowman places this abbey on behalf of Blue. How many points does each player score?

PS: There are no large meeples in this question.

Answer #16: They abbey placed is incomplete so Blue scores no points for it.

The completed city has 5 tiles and 2 coats of arms. Note that the bridge on the Spiel'19 tile connects both city segments. Additionally, Yellow has the majority in the city thanks to their mayor and the two coats of arms. So only Yellow scores for the city, which is worth 14 points ( (5 tiles + 2 coats of arms) x 2 points = 7 x 2 = 14 points)

Bottomline:
- Blue scores 0 points, since the abbey is not complete.
- Red scores 0 points.
- Yellow scores 14 points.

Question #17: Santa Claus places this tile. How will manage Red and Yellow to be robbed the least points possible? How many points will each player score?

Answer #17: The tile placed completes:
- A city occupied by Red worth 6 points (3 tiles x 2 points)
- A road occupied by Yellow worth 3 points (3 tiles x 1 point)
- A castle occupied by Red worth 3 points, as the scoring is triggered by the road.

So Red has to score the city and the castle and Yellow has to score the road. The field is not scored so Blue receives no points for it.

As a result of the configuration on the scoreboard...
- The Red Robber will steal 0 points from Yellow if Yellow scores with their messenger.
- The Yellow Robber may steal points from any of the Red Scoring Figures. So Red has to score both features with the same scoring figure starting by the one with the least points to minimize the points stolen by Yellow Robber.

Note that scoring with robbers has to be planned ahead, not per feature scored. If Red decides to score each feature with a different scoring figure, Yellow Robber would be able to choose which one to steal from, since it would have visibility over the first scoring of each scoring figure used. So the key point here is to move only one of the scoring figures to allow the Yellow Robber no choice but the least evil for Red.

So the scoring sequence would be as follows, assuming Red decides to score with their scoring meeple only (it would have the same effect if Red would decide to use their messenger for both scorings instead):
1. First features scored:
  - Red scores 3 points for the castle with the Red Scoring Meeple
  - Yellow scores 3 points for the road with the Yellow Messenger.
2. If possible, robbers steal points and they are removed:
  - The Yellow Robber steals 2 points from the Red Scoring Meeple (3 points / 2 rounded up)  and is then removed from the scoreboard and returned to its owner.
  - The Red Robber cannot steal from Yellow so it stays on the scoreboard.
3. The remaining feature is scored.
  - Red scores 6 points for the city with the Red Scoring Meeple so no more points can be stolen.

Notes: If it was Yellow's turn and the 2 points stolen by the Yellow Robber were scored by the Yellow Scoring Meeple, Yellow would receive a message. That would mean a separate scoring or 2 points.

Bottomline:
- Red scores 9 points in two separate scoring events (3 points for the castle + 6 points for the city)
- Yellow scores 5 points in two separate scoring events (3 points for the road + 2 stolen points)

Final note: When playing with robbers, the order followed to evaluate each feature may not match the order used to score them. In this case, the castle is evaluated last (due to its dependencies) but it has to be scored first to minimize the points stolen from Red.

Question #18: Danisthirty places a tile that completes two road networks. How many points does each player receive?

Answer #18: The tile completes two road networks with several tunnels.

The road network with blue tunnels is occupied by Red. The road has 5 tiles so Red scores 5 points (5 tiles x 1 point per tile).

The road network with yellow and red tunnels is occupied by Yellow and Blue. Each of them score 9 points (9 tiles x 1 point per tile).

Note: Don't be fooled by tiles that participate more than once in a road because they contain a printed road segment and a bridge, or two printed road segments belonging to the same road network (roads looping back, road connected by tunnels,...). You only count each tile once no matter if it contributes more than once in a road network.

Bottomline:
- Blue scores 9 points
- Red scores 5 points
- Yellow scores 9 points

Question #19: The Grinch completes this road. How many points does Red scores if the Fairy was placed next to the meeple this turn? The Fairy was by the scoreboard previously.

Answer #19: The fairy is placed during the current turn, so Red scores no fairy bonus at the beginning of this turn.

The completed 5-tile road will be affected by the following elements:
- An inn
- A German cathedral
- A German castle
- The Witch

Red will score for the road 11 points, according to the following steps:
1. The road core feature scoring is 15 points (5 tiles x (1 point per tile + 1 point for the German cathedral + 1 point for the inn) = 5 x 3 = 15 points)
2. The Witch penalty is applied on top of these points, so the road is worth 8 points at this point (15 points / 2 for the Witch = 8 points after rounding up)
3. The German castle bonus is applied after the Witch, so the road is worth 11 points (8 for the road + 3 points for the German castle)

Note that the German castle bonus is scored only once even if two legs of the road end at the same German castle.

Additionally, Red will score 3 points for the fairy next to their meeple.

Bottomline:
- Red scores 14 points in two separate scoring events (11 points for the road + 3 points for the fairy).

Question #20: Gingerbread Man and Dorothy are also intrigued with this monastery just completed on the border. How many points does Red score for it?

Answer #20: The monastery on the border is completed although it is not fully surrounded by tiles. Red will score 7 points for it.

Note that you have to consider normal tiles and printed tiles but printed semicircular segments on the border are not considered. In this case there are 6 normal tiles and 1 printed tile featuring "München".

Bottomline:
- Red scores 7 points for the monastery.

Question #21: The Snowman places a tile that completes the road occupied by Yellow. How many points does each player score?

Answer #21: As soon as the tile is placed, the road is completed. Since the road is connected to the Solovei Razboynik tile, the Yellow Meeple is trapped right away by Solovei Razboynik and moves to that tile. As a result, the completed road is left unoccupied. As a result, Yellow scores no points for the road.

However, the completion of the road triggers the scoring of the nearby castle occupied by Red. The player will score the same points the road is worth, that is, 7 points (7 tiles x 1 point per tile).

Notes:
* The road segment on the Solovei Razboynik tile passes behind the tree and is not interrupted.
* The Bogatyr tile features a stone that delimits two separate road segments:
   - One with three connected legs, which is part of the road being scored in this case
   - Another separate road segment, connected to the monastery in this case, which is not part of the road being scored

Bottomline:
- Red scores 7 points.
- Yellow scores no points

Question #22: The game ended. How many points does each player score in this scenario Santa Claus has put together for you?

Answer #22: In this after the game scenario we have two features:
* A German monastery occupied by a Yellow Meeple placed as an abbot
* An incomplete German castle occupied by Blue

There are two possible outcomes depending of the ruleset applied to Halflings and German castle tiles.

C1 rules for Halflings and German castles

In this case, we apply the C1 rules as clarified in 10/2015:
* Two Halfling tiles in the same square are counted as 2 individual tiles.
* German castles are considered as 1 tile.

Yellow will score 7 points (1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 2):
* 1 point for the monastery tile
* 2 points for the Halfling tiles on the column above it
* 1 point for the tile on the column below it
* 1 point for the tile on the row to the left
* 2 points for the tiles on the row to the right, the Halfling tile and the German castle tile.

Blue will score 7 points (2 points for the German castle tile + 1 point per tile adjacent to it). Note that Halflings are counted individually.

Bottomline:
- Yellow scores 7 points.
- Blue scores 7 points.

C2 rules for Halflings and German castles

In this case, we apply the C2 rules as clarified in 1/2021:
* Two Halfling tiles in the same square are counted as 1 tile (one occupied space).
* German castles are considered as two occupied spaces.

Yellow will score 7 points (1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 3):
* 1 point for the monastery tile
* 1 point for the Halfling tiles on the column above it, counted as 1 tile
* 1 point for the tile on the column below it
* 1 point for the tile on the row to the left
* 3 points for the tiles on the row to the right, 1 for the Halfling tile and 2 for the German castle tile (2 spaces).

Blue will score 6 points (2 points for the German castle tile + 1 point per occupied space adjacent to it). Note that it does not matter if the space is occupied by a regular square tile, one Halfling tile or two Halfling tiles.

Bottomline:
- Yellow scores 7 points.
- Blue scores 6 points.

EDIT: Updated to consider the latest C2 rules for Halflings.

Question #23: Danisthirty put together this final-scoring scenario for you. How many points does each player score?

Answer #23: In this scenario there are two fields to be scored: one occupied by Red and the other has the Yellow Barn

Red will score the field with the besieged city, taking into account the pig. Red will score 8 points (1 city x ( (3 points for the city + 1 point for the pig) x 2 for the siege) = 1 x (4 x 2) = 8 points)

Yellow will score the barn taking into consideration the 2-tile city and the same city as Red. Note the city bridge on the Spiel'20 tile touches the field with the Yellow Barn.

Yellow will then score 12 points:
- The 2-tile city is worth 4 points for the barn
- The besieged city is worth 8 points (4 points x 2 for the siege)

Bottomline:
- Red scores 8 points
- Yellow scores 12 points

Question #24: The Wizard of Carcassonne places the tile with the Yellow Wagon, and asks the following questions:
1) How many points does each player score? The Wizard of Carcassonne is only interested in the highest score for each player. [1-5 points]
2) What feature(s) did Red complete to get the Orange Teacher? [1 point]
3) What is the least points Red can receive from the Orange Teacher? [1 point]
4) After scoring, what happens to the Blue Meeple and the fairy? [1 point]
5) After scoring, what possible features can the Yellow Wagon be moved to? [1 point]
6) After scoring, which player gets the Orange Teacher? [1 point]

Answer #24: This scenario includes two official PnP Expansions: The City Gates and the Fortune Teller.
* The Red Phantom occupies the road just completed leading to the school.
* The Yellow Wagon occupies the 1-tile city completing the road leading to the school and the fortune teller tent.
* The Blue Meeple occupies the fortune teller tent just completed

The answer to the questions is as follows:

1) Points scored per player

Yellow will score 4 points for the 1-tile city. This is a special case from The City Gates. Yellow will also score 3 points for completing the fortune teller tent.

Blue will score 0 points for the fortune teller tent itself. However, Blue will receive the 3 points for the fairy next to the fortune teller.

Note: Remember that it is Yellow's turn so Blue does not get the 1-point bonus for the fairy.

Red will score 5 points for the road (5 tiles x 1 point per tile).

Additionally, Red is in possession of the Teacher. Red may choose which completed feature to receive points from:
- The completed fortune teller tent worth 0 points (note that points for the completion of the tent or the fairy bonus are not considered part of the feature scoring)
- The completed city worth 4 points
- The completed road worth 5 points
Red will then score 5 points for the Teacher, in order to get the most points as requested.

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 3 points for the fairy.
- Red will score 10 points in two separate scoring events (5 points for the road + 5 points for the teacher).
- Yellow will score 7 points in two separate scoring events (4 points for the city + 3 points for completing the fortune teller tent).

2) Feature(s) completed by Red to get the Teacher

Red completed the first road to the right of the school with a City Gates tile. At that point this tile could be the first tile placed for that city or the second, completing it.

3) Least points the Teacher can score in this scenario

The Teacher may decide to score 0 points for the fortune teller tent.

4) What happens to the Blue Meeple and the fairy

The Blue Meeple on the fortune teller tent will be removed and returned to its owner's supply, since it is completed. The fairy stays on the tile.

As an additional note, Blue will not be able to draw an additional tile in next draws without this fortune teller.

5) Where the Yellow Wagon can move

The Yellow Wagon will be returned to its owner's supply in C1 and C2:
- In C1: the wagon cannot drive through the school to an unoccupied incomplete road. The school is a special area that can only be occupied by a Teacher.
- In C2: there is no incomplete unoccupied feature on any adjacent tile.

6) Who gets the Orange Teacher

After scoring, Yellow will get the Teacher for completing a road leading to the school.

Well done Corinthiens 13, and a big thank you to meepledrone for the effort he's put in creating the quiz, doing the scoring and explanations, and keeping us amused with the ongoing chatter between the individuals. Merit from me.

For next year I must try and remember to look for hidden and half tiles, and not to assume that all meeples are the same - didn't spot at least one builder and mayor ...

Happy and safe New Year to all.

Hello everyone !

@Meepledrone : Thank you very much for this quiz (a first for me).

And congratulations to Corinthiens13 for his victory !

I would like to had that I wish an happy new year to each yof you, members of CarcC !!

@Meepledrone, I've got a question :

One sentence said the contrary of the other... On the one hand, it's said that points for the completion of the tent (...) are not considered part of the feature scoring and on the other  hand, the same teacher may decide to score 0 points for the fortune teller tent...
Question #24: ...
- The completed fortune teller tent worth 0 points (note that points for the completion of the tent or the fairy bonus are not considered part of the feature scoring)
AND
3) Least points the Teacher can score in this scenario
The Teacher may decide to score 0 points for the fortune teller tent.
I don't understand if something is not allowed at first, why is it just few line in a second time without any change in the game ?

Could you explain it to me please ? And thank again for this really nice story and game !

First of all, Happy New Year!

Hello everyone !

@Meepledrone : Thank you very much for this quiz (a first for me).

Thank you! It's been a pleasure and even a more challenging experience than last year!  ;D

And congratulations to Corinthiens13 for his victory !

I would like to had that I wish an happy new year to each yof you, members of CarcC !!

I would like to congratulate everyone, I've sitting on the edge of my seat everyday checking the answers and following who was  becoming the leader in this quiz. Anything could happen each day. I've been surprised with the level of the participants...  :(y) :(y)

@Meepledrone, I've got a question :

One sentence said the contrary of the other... On the one hand, it's said that points for the completion of the tent (...) are not considered part of the feature scoring and on the other  hand, the same teacher may decide to score 0 points for the fortune teller tent...

Sure!

The Fortune Teller Tent is a very particular feature. When completed...
* The occupier receives 0 points for the feature itself (the player already enjoyed the beneft of drawing additional tiles). These are the points the teacher (or a castle) could receive. (This is what I mention in the second sentence in red: the points for the feature itself)
* The player who places the tile completing the fortune teller tent receives 3 points. This is a bonus for the player, like getting the trade goods for completed city when playing with T&B, but this time the bonus consists in points. It has nothing to do with scoring  the feature itself. Therefore this bonus cannot be trigger the scoring of a castle or be received by the teacher. (This is what I mention in the first sentence in red: the points bonus points for the player completing the feature)

Let me know if this makes things more clear.  ;)

Sad, but yes. It is the points the player gets for the feature. Something similar would happen with a small city with a mayor for example (sorry no coats of arms :'()

@Meepledrone thank you for this quest :)
+1 is not enought
We all see that it's a lot of rules which we use not correctly even on standard large expansion (castle).
So we start again in Slovakia quarantine so it will be more time for play and read rules :)

Thank you so much for participating  ;D

There are many small details in the wording with terrible implications when combined. Hope this helped shed some light in weird cases that may happen... When I started with this I got amazed with all the complexity you could accumulate with a few tiles...  ;)

Hope the lockdown ends soon and you can lighten up those hours at home with a bit of Carcassonne.

Happy New Year!

Do you know the wikicarpedia website or WICA?
Perhaps you could make a topic. with tutorials on how to combine expansions etc ... What do you think Meepledrone?
Title: Re: Carcassonne Central: Advent Quiz MMXX
Post by: Meepledrone on January 02, 2021, 11:51:06 AM
OK!

For the barn, I don't if you have seen this summary available on WICA:
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Abbey_and_the_Mayor#Scoring_summary (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Abbey_and_the_Mayor#Scoring_summary)

You can check this page on Little Buildings as well:
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Little_Buildings_(1st_edition) (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Little_Buildings_(1st_edition))

But if you want to see how everything fits together, you can check this page about scoring during the game and after the game (you can select what expansions you want to combine):
* During de game:
   - Full detail:
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Scoring_During_Turn_Sequence (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Scoring_During_Turn_Sequence)
   - Summary:
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Scoring_During_the_Game (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Scoring_During_the_Game)
* After the game:
   - Summary:
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Scoring_After_the_Game (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Scoring_After_the_Game)

Let me know if this helps  ;)

If on the other hand, you are interested in the sequence of actions, you can check the following (you can select what expansions you want to combine):
- Global structure of a game:
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Game_Reference (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Game_Reference)
  - It has sections on game setup sequence and final scoring sequence
- Turn sequence during the game:
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Order_of_Play (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Order_of_Play)

Some ideas for Mega Carcassonne games too:
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Mega-Carcassonne (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Mega-Carcassonne)

Not me, I like it all the way.
I liked that there was a lot of variation in the questions, that most of the expansions got their moment of fame and that I always had to look very carefully for the snag in the grass  :D

For me personally, winning the quiz is not my objective as I cannot cope with the time element anyway. But I am always interested in applying the correct rules (also when playing one of my 350 other board games  >:D ). Therefore I really appreciate the challenges you gave us to test our knowledge of the game rules and the interaction between all the different features of the expansions.

Some people may think that all these expansions are not necessary and take away the original spirit of the base game. But on the other hand, without them, how would so many people ever stay so active on a forum sharing their thoughts about just one particular board game? ;D

For WICA I suggest to insert a reference to the score of the castles connected to the German cathedrals (Q4)

The mage remains on the tile?

Yes, the mage stays in the city until the city is completed or until he is relocated after placing a new mage/witch tile.

Correct. The feature was not properly scored in 3. Scoring a feature, so the Mage stays put.

In other cases, there may be more meeples on the same feature that would participate in the usual scoring when the feature is completed. So the Mage should stay on the feature until that moment, unless moved elsewhere of course.

"Example 3: The Blue player completes the city and scores 16 points. Because part of the city is neighboring your castle and is the first completed neighboring feature, you also score 16 points." The correct order should be:
- Yellow scores 3 points for the road with the Yellow Messenger.
- Red scores 3 points for the castle with the Red Scoring Meeple

Players may decide the order of their scorings affecting the same scoring figure. Robbers are not limited by the evaluation loop. That's the issue with the scoring loop and ROBBER CHOICE in the Order of Play I was talking about. You have to evaluate features following the order required but may score them in the order you decide. It is the only way to reconcile the scoring requirements with robbers.

Please check this clarification:
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Robbers#cite_note-7 (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Robbers#cite_note-7)
Quote
If a single scoring figure moves multiple times due to scoring of more than one feature with placement of a single tile, the player receiving the points chooses the order that points are awarded. If there is a robber beside that figure, the owner of the robber would thus receive half the points of only the first feature that is scored. Of course, if multiple figures on the same space receive points, the robber’s owner can still choose which figure to steal points from. (5/2013, 11/2014)

If you follow a strict scoring loop, especially with castles, you will end at impossible situations to score, like the ones in the following thread:
http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3151.0 (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3151.0)

Check the example below:
* How do you score this scenario if you handle only one feature at a time?
* Which castle do you score first?
* How many points does each castle score?
Mix this with robbers and bathhouses...  >:D

Glad to hear! It didn't take long compared to the deliveries to Europe.  ???

You can see we started 2021 throwing away anything we took for granted in 10/2015 about double-sized tiles and halfings... So be ready for anything.

Oh wow. I had no idea that there's such a universe of meeples out there. I'm a bit bewildered.

Here's a funny though...I had mentally inserted an extra "h," such that I thought @danisthirsty was danisHthirsty....which always made me think of Tak for kaffe!!. Now, I see where I didn't before.

Just wondering how you can organize a quiz when 30% of the rules are outdated, waiting for further clarifications, have differences between C1 and C2, in other words are not clear at all anymore. Or one should study Wikicarpedia or screen all the messages on this forum on a daily base. And even then, it stays a mess...

I have to say that I'm slowly starting to lose interest in this game with all this chaos around. And I used to be a real hard-core fan...

One of the premises is that not all the expansions are designed to be combined in the same game. In the end, many of the expansions would get diluted if you combine them all. Besides, the game cannot be asstrategic as a smaller one of course.

We are trying to cover all the interactions just for the sake of it (Is it a professional bias as a computer scientist to cover all edge cases for a correct implementation? I daresay so). And bear in mind that we are addressing cases that may never happen in real life in a Mega Carcassonne game... It see them as a mind exercise.

In any case, I would separate the love for the game from gaps in the definition of expansion interactions. It will take some time to get a satisfactory official reply, but we have enough background to define a set of community rules to cope with those gaps in a consistent manner. This may become an collective exercise in the meantime.

We can consider the C1 rules after the clarifications from 10/2015 are practically closed. The issue is that some of those clarifications departed from the original intent, so HiG is correcting course for some of them. After so many years discussing Halfings and double-sized tiles, the issue was settled so square spaces won over individual tiles. All the geometry strains have been put to rest. I wouldn't say that the 30% of the rules are undefined... I would rather consider that the larger the rules body is, the more gaps you may find... And this is a normal thing.

I'm working from time to time in putting all the clarifications together in one large WICA page so we can filter in or out what elements to display. Maybe I should create an XLS file first to analyze each interaction in detail... Still toying with the idea in my head.

Regarding the quiz, I always tried to avoid undefined interactions at the time. The C2 rules are simpler in some cases although some of the clarifications were obtained after the latest quiz. It is simpler to combine only a few elements than throwing everything into the pot. I tried a large scenario in summer 2019 and it was a nightmare and totally prone to error...

https://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4369.0 (https://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4369.0)

So simpler cases may help focus everyone's energy and attention on those important details and nuances. You know, divide and conquer!
