Title: New Spiel 2016 Releases
Post by: kettlefish on October 08, 2016, 05:13:34 PM
Next week at the Spiel 2016 in Essen:

There will be a new mini-expansion - as far as I know of - only in the CC II - New Edition from CundCo.
This mini-expansion is not a "republished expansion" it was never an expansion for the classical CC.

----------------------
In a few weeks/months there will come the next big republished expansion for the CC II - New Edition:
- Bridges, Castles, Bazaars

Sorry for the split-topic kettlefish, but I didn't want your new post to get lost in the mire that is the republished expansions thread. Anyway, you had mostly new information there, so that's something important. For everybody else...

There is a new expansion coming out next week at Spielfest: Carcassonne: Die Wachtürme (The Watchtowers). This expansion will be in the new game art and will cost €6,50 through CundCo once released. There has been some scattered discussion on this expansion throughout the forums but nothing definitive until now. The rules, number of tiles, and graphic design are all still unknown but should be revealed shortly.

Also, as stated by kettlefish above, Carcassonne: Bridges, Castles & Bazaars will be reprinted in the new game art before the end of the year. This confirms suspicions that The Catapult will be skipped for the time-being, although whether it is permanently skipped or the later two expansions are renumbered has yet to be announced. King, Count & Cult will also be skipped at this moment, although it seems fairly certain that that expansion will see a later release. To put this practice in context, Expansion 4: The Tower was recently skipped in favour of Expansion 5: Abbey & Mayor, but then subsequently released in the new art a little while afterwards.

Most of us will see the first time "Carcassonne Amazonas" at the Spiel 2016 in Essen.

The mini-expansion "Cathedrals in Germany" is also back at the CundCo Shop at the Spiel 2016 in Essen.

Also HiG has other games:
- an expansion for Russian Railroads „American Railroads“
- a new game "First Class"
see a small view at HiG facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Brettspiele/photos/a.281965897298.141444.237314407298/10154598890627299/?type=3&theater)

I am going to speculate. I think watchtowers will be a new feature that will allow one to get points from the boundary of a city without competing on the city itself.

For me, this year, it's only going to be Amazonas (if Zman brings enough copies). Kinda hoped there would be a small promo for it as well, like with South Seas and Gold Rush, but oh well...  :)

The small expansions for Gold Rush and South Seas came one year after the game, if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure they were released at the same time a second the game. Same with the Gingerbread Man for Winter Edition. Amazonas is looking to be the first Around the World game without a release promo.

Yes , Gingerbread, Friday and Sheriff were released simultaneously with their base games.

Artwork for the Watchtowers has just been released in the Cundco newsletter.

Edit: The email also says mentions that the Winter Edition expansion will be available.

Decar, is it possible to create the picture a bit smaller?
CarcC is not the owner of this graphics - the owner is HiG/CundCo.

Wow, in the excitement I copied the image from the email.  It didn't look so big there.

Updated orignal post with a x4 smaller image

Can someone edit up some of these tiles Carc 1 style? I don't feel like buying the new art just for one mini expansion

Edit: The email also says mentions that the Winter Edition expansion will be available.

Is it a new Winter Edition expansion or the Gingerbread's return?

Having seen the tiles I don't get the feeling this expansion is going to be worth it.

The watchtower guys look like some kind of adjustment of The messages. 1 point per roadtile in a certain distance (8 tiles?)?

My thoughts exactly.

I'm looking forward to seeing these tiles in the flesh/ cardboard. Regardless of the rules, I'm pretty sure I'll be buying this anyway as I like the look of the tiles and think they will be a nice addition to my new edition.

Having seen the tiles I don't get the feeling this expansion is going to be worth it.

I am almost positive that the Carcassonne community will develop an old-art version of this expansion in due time. (If I had to guess, it will come from CarcF, as they brought the abbot gardens into the old art.) And I think that's worthwhile, especially knowing all the old art fans (especially completionists) in the community. Plus, I think the old art version will look better!

For me, though, that means this expansion is going to be competing for blank tiles against the many fan expansions that have been released. And since I am not a completionist, I honestly don't expect that this expansion is going to ever hit my table, as there are numerous fan expansions that are more compelling to me.

In all fairness though, I will have to wait to see if the rules pleasantly surprise me or not.

UPDATE: Indeed they are already working on it (http://carcassonne-forum.de/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=3493) over at CarcF. :(y)

Rough translation of the German rules from Fritz_Spinne at CarcF:

When a street or the city is completed, which includes a Watchtower with a Follower on it, the Watchtower scores first and then the completed city or road scores as normal.

The Watchtower scores for the Watchtower tile and the surrounding 8 tiles (like a monastery):
  • 3 points for each monastery on up to 9 tiles
  • 2 points for every follower on up to 9 tiles
  • 2 points for each pennant on up to 9 tiles
  • 1 points for each tile with at least one road
  • 1 points for each tile with at least one city

"with at least" so the monastery one delivers the best scoring option. a possible 24 points..

The tower with the meeple may get people to use corn circles to add knights to cities.

It's a random point allocator. I'm not that keen. And it's in the new edition images.

Do we have any idea of the release date on the Cundco website?

I might have also liked a little more with the rules but would still like to add it to the new set. It can use it.

Cheers,

I must say, the Carc1 adaptation over at CarcF is looking very good so far, and going very quickly too. This is the most recent work-in-progress image from Ratz65:

I am happy to have chosen into the old-art style when I got into Carcassonne last year, as any new-art-only official expansions will likely be fan-converted into the old art... and the blank tiles to make it will be cheaper than buying the official new-art release. Quite a workable solution. :)

The work is done.

Here is the link to the complete expansion:

I want to upload an example in full resolution (1062x1062, 600dpi) but I can't. The allowed file size is only 512KB, my 600dpi tiles (jpg) are about 850kb each.
So sorry, I only can provide this one in low quality:
