Scoring Watchtoers
« on: August 11, 2020, 06:04:57 AM »
Hi, here is example and I'm not sure if it's correct.
1. Black meaple is not road on watchtower.
2. Yellow will finish town on watchtower tile
Is this correct crosing?
1. Yellow get 4 points for city
2. Black get 2 points per city per tile on watch
3. Black stays on tile and wait for finish road on which he stays or road before him.
- so black can score watchtower tripple times.

Hi Bumsakalaka,

The :black1-meeple: meeple is on the watchtower but won't score any points for the watchtower until the feature it occupies is completed. That meeple may get the watchtower bonus only once, since it will removed after scoring the watchtower bonus and the road.

The :yellow-meeple: meeple is on the completed city but not on the watchtower tile, it does not receive the watchtower bonus either.  Therefore :yellow-meeple: will only score 4 points for the city.

Therefore, the current scenario is as follows:
* The :black1-meeple: meeple is on a road segment on the watchtower tile. In order for the :black1-meeple: meeple to score the watchtower tile, the road it occupies should be completed. This is not happening in this turn, so :black1-meeple: scores no points. (when the road is finished, :black1-meeple: will score for th watchtower and for the city).
* The :yellow-meeple: meeple is on a city just completed. The completed city has a watchtower but there is no meeple on the city segment on the watchtower tile, so:
   - No one scores points for the watchtower in this scoring.
   - :yellow-meeple: scores 4 points for the city as usual.

Alternative scenario:

If the :yellow-meeple: meeple was on the city segment on the watchtower, it would score points for the watchtower too:
   - :yellow-meeple: would score 2 points for his meeple on the city segment on the watchtower (2 neighboring tiles with roads x 1 point/tile).
   - :yellow-meeple: scores 4 points for the city as usual.

Note: In this case :black1-meeple: and :yellow-meeple: would be on the same tile. This would be possible with a magic portal or a flying machine.

Hope this helps!

"When a completed road or a city contains a tile which features a watchtower, and there is a meeple on the feature (city, road) on that tile, the watchtower is scored first."
Black receives 0 points. There is a completed city that contains a tile which features a watchtower, but the black meeple must be placed on the city segment of the watchtower tile in order to score the watchtower bonus.

Hmm, I understand your scenarious, but I'm not sure ;-D (I don't want to :D)

Rules say:
When a completed road or a city contains a tile which features a watchtower, and there is a meeple on the feature (city, road) on that tile, the watchtower is scored first. The completed road or city is scored afterwards.

Please read it carefuly, because there is absolute nothing about that meeple has to be on finished feature.

When a completed road or a city contains a tile which features a watchtower - check it is on placed tile is watchtower - check
there is a meeple on the feature (city, road) on that tile - black is on road - check
the watchtower is scored first - okej, black is earning points.

The watchtower bonus goes to a player present in a just completed city or road with a meeple on a segment located on the watchtower tile. This seems a bit cumbersome to express however the idea is simple... Let's break it down...

All this implies you have to meet three conditions to get the watchtower bonus:
* The feature is completed (you are scoring a road or city)
* You are present on the feature (you need at least a meeple but no majority is required)
* Your meeple is on a segment of the feature on the watchtower tile.

In other words, in order to get the watchtower bonus, your meeple on the watchtower tile has to be on the feature being scored.

Some examples to clarify this:

* Example 1: :black1-meeple: scores for the city but receives no watchtower bonus.

Since the :black1-meeple: meeple is not on the city segment on the watchtower tile, it cannot receive the bonus. So :black1-meeple: only scores for the city.

* Example 2: :yellow-meeple: scores for the city and also receives the watchtower bonus.

Since the :yellow-meeple: meeple is on the city segment on the watchtower tile, it will receive the bonus. Therefore, :yellow-meeple: receives points for the watchtower and then scores the city, following the order indicated in the rules.

* Example 3: Both :black1-meeple: and :yellow-meeple: score for the city but only :yellow-meeple: receives the watchtower bonus.

Since the :yellow-meeple: meeple is on the city segment on the watchtower tile, it will receive the bonus.

Additionally, both :black1-meeple: and :yellow-meeple: share the majority in the city, so both players will score for the city.

* Example 4: Only :black1-meeple: scores for the city but :yellow-meeple: receives the watchtower bonus.

Since the :yellow-meeple: meeple is on the city segment on the watchtower, it will receive the bonus.

However, :black1-meeple: has the majority in the city, so only :black1-meeple: scores for the city.

When you read rules there is one special word: THAT.
When a completed road or a city contains a tile which features a watchtower, and there is a meeple on the feature (city, road) on that tile, the watchtower is scored first.
If it will be as you wrote. The rule has to be something like:
When a completed road or a city contains a tile which features a watchtower, and there is a meeple on that  tile placed on road or a city which is "finished", the watchtower is scored first.

I'm not so good in german but german rules says:
Wenn die Straße oder die Stadt eines Meeple auf einem Wachturm-Plättchen abgeschlossen wird, wertest du zuerst den Wachturm und dann die abgeschlossene Straße oder Stadt.
I read it: Wnen road or city is closed with Meeple on tile with Watchtower, watchtowers is scored first.

There is no word, than you have to be in finishing street or city.

In meaning - Meeple is on watchtower if is on road or tower on watchtower tile. So any of feature is finished, watchtower is scored.

And I think this is original idea for Watchtowers.

That is not correct. "eines Meeple" means "of a meeple". It is the German genitiv, which implies ownership. The meeple 'owns' the city or street in the German sentence. It should be interpreted that the meeple is present on that road or city.

"that tile" refers to the watchtower tile. Like I said, it seems a bit cumbersome to express, but I see no difference in meaning.

Let's use completed feature = completed city or road and simplify the sentence removing "that" at the cost of making it a bit repetitive:

"When a completed feature contains a watchtower tile, and there is a meeple on the completed feature on the watchtower tile, the watchtower is scored first."

I don't know if this seems clearer...
