Earliest edition of the game.
« on: September 22, 2014, 12:47:04 PM »
I'm looking for the earliest version of the game I can find. Namely, the original German version with the other scoreboard (the twisty cobblestone road looking one seen on the back of the box). Does this scoreboard even exist outside of prototype form? I thought I read somewhere that it goes from 0 to 70, as opposed to 0 to 50 like every other. Any info I can get on the would be great, so I can either search harder or stop if it doesn't exist.

Shouldn't those farmer meeples be lying on their sides?  At the very least this deserves a footnote in the CAR  ;D

Wow, that does look old. Great find. I wonder if it is still in existence anywhere? I like the art on the tiles...  >:D

This is a rule that was implemented in later versions of the game. just like the 4-points scoring for 2-tiles cities

I never was satisfied with Matt Harper's summary of differences between first, second, and third edition scoring. He never really differentiated between first and second. Was the laying flat of a Farmer one of the second edition changes?

2001: Scoreboard 50 points round (grey-old) - small city: 2 points - farmer: stand (a tip: placed down) and 1. farmer rule
2001 - "Spiel des Jahres" (SdJ):
Scoreboard 50 points round (grey-old)- small city: 2 points - farmer: stand (a tip: placed down) - 2. farmer rule
2002: Scoreboard 50 points round (brown-new)- small city: 4 points - farmer: stand (a tip: placed down) - 3. farmer rule
2005: Scoreboard 50 points round (brown-new)- small city: 4 points - farmer:  placed down - 3. farmer rule - rule book new design

At CarcF we have all the versions of the German rule books.

Nice. What were the major differences between Farmer Rule #1 and Farmer Rule #2? I think I remember what the first one was (points for city goes to player with most touching farmers; farms worth 4 points). I obviously know the current rules. What changed with the second edition?

The 2nd edition is almost the 3rd edition.
Please look at the examples in the rules.

(I will copy the differences and upload the pictures later)

2nd Farmer rule: 3 points for every city of the farm, but the one player can't get 3 points two times for the same city, if it is at the edge of two farms of himself.
