News and Events / Re: KJW-Signed Tile Giveaway
« on: June 17, 2018, 07:36:48 AM »
Hi Dan!  Well, in our last game I played Yellow (as per usual) and J played black.  We added I&C, T&B, 10th anniversary and GQ expansions.  Some day we will start playing with the river again (we used to always use it).  Generally when we play T&B I get screwed out of goods tiles but this time I was closing cities left right and center.  I decided not to bother much with farming until the last 2/3 of the game.  J usually gets into farming a bit earlier than I do, and usually I just try to steal any farm that's big enough to warrant stealing. None of the farms were particularly juicy so I aimed to recoup as many meeples as I could by the last third of the game, and it actually paid off.  There were a few cities well over 24 points courtesy of the cathedrals, so the scoring was a real horse-race the whole time.  First J was ahead, then I blew past, and then he would catch up, and finally by game end J won by about 2 or 4 points.  Still, it was a blast. :)

Any old-style tile would be preferable.  I am never, Ever EVER parting with my beloved Carcassonne collection, certainly not with any piece sent as a gift.

I will have a lot of different games to renew my old collection, so I won't need too many if I want to get the chance to play with them. :)

DUDE, you have SUPER QUIZ! :)  My Mom still has that one.  Great trivia game!

Right now I can access the website and the forums.  Some forums require you to log in.  As soon as I log in it sends me only blank pages.

Are they having trouble? Does anyone know?

That Festival 10 is definitely the old artwork.  Maybe they found some in a warehouse someplace.  Who knows?
Festival 15 was the new artwork.

A post I found indicates the knock-offs aren't the same tile size.  The tiles are a bit smaller.  As such, it'd be useless for re-facing for fan expansions.
Thankfully there are always used copies to be had.

CarcF is the Carcassonne Fourm which to my knowlege is basically a German version of Carcassonne Central (CarcC)

Oh yes, I've only been there a few times.  I need an auto-translator plug-in to really dig in.  Any recommendations?

Thanks for the input.  As I mentioned I'm less concerned with how the tile fronts look, since I'd be re-stickering them.

Even still, if it seems too good to be true I'm sure it probably is.

Lastly, what's "CarcF"?

Has anybody bought the old-art edition currently for sale on eBay?  Free shipping from several sellers in HongKong and China, all using the same photos in their ads.

Definitely on the cheap side, so I would expect these might be lower quality.  I'm just looking for tiles I can use for custom expansions, so I can deal with poorer quality of score board, box, etc.  I just need the tile backs to be somewhat indistinguishable from those I already have.

Last time I bought an item with free shipping from Asia it didn't show up.  They offered to send a replacement.  The replacement also didn't show up.  By this time it was too late to complain to eBay or PayPal so I lost my 7 bucks.  Still, I was bothered.  So this is why I ask.

I don't feel the need to buy absolutely everything (I call this the Pokemon model).  I don't blame anybody else that does - do what you like.  if I didn't have a Big Box 5 I would probably have bought the new Big Box and slowly accumulate a collection of old and a collection of new art.

Along with my BB5 (with custom foamcore insert and almost all the expansions) I have a Small Box of old artwork base game, I&C T&B River and a few other things with a nice Broken Token insert.  Someday I will probably trade that for a New Art version of the same stuff.  Then I will be excited again about the new art.

I haven't seen this one mentioned in a while, so it may not get enough love.  We love Glen More!  Choosing and laying tiles to get resources to buy later tiles to place meeples to place later tiles to sell resources.  What's not to love?  Brilliant game.

I guess you could say the "blessing and the curse" of my involvement is that I'm pretty thorough, but also quite slow.

I'd say the CAR document is in good hands with involvement of people like yourself who are sticklers for rules and the way they sometimes affect each other.   I will be excited to see the updated CAR once it's available.

I can definitely see Wheel Of Fortune and Hills & Sheep being released in the new art style.  I too would love to see a new collection of smaller expansions: Siege, German Cathedrals and German castles in the new art style would be awesome!  I just don't know how they would name it, since there are Cathedrals in Inns & Cathedrals and Castles in Bridges Castles and Bazaars.

hey wait is BCB released in the new art style yet?

There is still a ton of good stuff up for grabs.  Nobody wants any of it?

I'm very happy with my GQ11 I got from JustABill.  Of course I'd like another but we are limited to one item each.  I guess everybody else is not interested this year.

blue-topped, poop-bottomed wrongness

Gee Bill, from your words it almost seems like you prefer the older art style. :)
