Messages - Halfling

My copy of the winter edition came with the gingerbread expansion. Is this unusual? I assumed it was standard until I read this.

At the moment I am pleased to have the German castles as they are both new and very enjoyable to use. Prior to that it was the halflings for the same reason. I am envious of anyone with the tunnels corn circles I or cathars. Mine are homemade versions on blank tiles. I so want real versions of these three expansions.

Always playing with a builder per player would negate the 71 tile issue, as would the messages mini expansion as both give second tile opportunities to the active player. Other option I've used is to add tiles from the mini expansion or the king and scout. The necessary number are agreed by the players and drawn randomly.

For my second number I choose 84.  Double my first choice .

A copy of the Wheel of Fortune start tile would of course be made and then cut in quarters and then using sticky tape it will open out like the board for Lords of Waterdeep.

The Halflings I (no surprise there!) because they are only half tiles will weigh less.  (12 tiles taking up the space of 6)
I'd use the base tiles from Wheel of Fortune because there is a better spread of tile types and I'd want as much variety as possible on my travels.  (72 tiles)
The Wheel itself would be taken as the start tile instead of a scoring track - I'd go old school and use a pencil and a piece of paper.
  Darmstadt (3 tiles)
  La Porxada (1 tile)
  Corn Circles II (6 tiles)
The Plague (6 tiles)  +Fleas and outbreaks

An eclectic mix which would certainly test the old grey matter.

I have just added a profile.  Can I go for #42 please.

Douglas Adams RIP

From the catapult, it has to be the tile with the fair inside the 4-way road.

The Halflings are definitely used as a blocking tactic when I have some in my hand.  My best move to date has left two opposing meeples in partially completed cities for the remainder of the game.

In case of potentially frustrated opponents I have used in conjuction with The Festival so that stranded Meeps can be returned to their owners stash, or The Tower and the Dragon.  Fun to see the owner capture their own meeps to get them back in play.

Has to be Abbey and Mayor for me because of the Abbey tiles and the Barns in particular.

p.s. Who voted for The Catapult?

Got it, played it and now use the tiles only. (As suggested in the annotated rules with +5 points if a meeple played on the tile).

I enjoy playing the plague.  For me it is preferable to the Catapult and the Bridges, Castles and Bazaars official expansions.

I prefer the Wheel of Fortune to the original base game.  The tiles are more varied and the wheel itself adds an extra element to the relatively small base game of 72 tiles.  Unlike the river I the 3 farms start on an equal size with a single city in each and this makes farming more strategic for me.

I agree that when expansions are added the value of placing the followers on the rim is diminished because of the extra tiles that are in play and the longer wait for the 19 wheel tiles to be drawn from the bag.

The Wheel of Fortune is always used in the campaigns that I create and after six or seven scenarios which have the River I or II, Wind Roses or School this bigger starting area is a welcome change.

I don't use either river with the Wheel of Fortune with the exception of when a Mega Game is played on a 25 x 25 starting board.  Then I place all of the starting tiles before the remainder of the 400+ tiles are drawn.
