News and Events / Official Solo Mode Released
« on: April 18, 2020, 09:44:11 AM »
Dear everyone,

HiG officially put out today rules for playing Carcassonne solo style! The rules are available in English ( ) And German ( ). I haven’t personally read the rules yet as I wanted to hurry up and share them here so I can’t swear if they’re any good.

Regardless this is exciting news! I will definitely have to try these out later!

P.S. paging Meepledrone! You have new rules to pour over.  ;D

EDIT - read the rules and the solo mode seems like a challenge more than anything, but a fun challenge. It also would seem that expansions could be mixed in though it will naturally fall upon us to sort out any interaction questions.

News and Events / Re: Carcassonne - Halb So Wild (neue Edition)

Alright, I think I done did something wrong. I tried to place an order for just this new expansion. During check out I was presented to options “online bank transfer” and “bank transfer.” The online option took me to a place I did recognize and ultimately did not seem to apply to me. So I opted instead for the regular option. I thought it would take me to PayPal. It didn’t. Apparently I have a placed order with an invoice that includes banking details. I have no idea what I need to do from here. I’ve just been so use to being directed to PayPal to pay for the order then being sent back to cundco to finalize the order.

Does anyone have any advice on my next step, noting like some I don’t speak German. I’ve sent an email to cundco just in case.

It is with a sad heart that I must report that the CodingMonkeys have lost the rights to publish Carcassonne on iOS and Mac. The Carcassonne app will be available until the 1st of March at which time it will be unavailable and replaced with Asmodee's implementation as currently found on Steam and Android. The CodingMonkeys have promised to keep servers up for at least 1 year and will keep them up even longer beyond that as budget permits. Also, in light of this situation they've gone ahead and put all theirs apps on sale for 50% off (not sure if this includes the in app purchases as well). You can read more about this sad news via their blog post here,

I have played and enjoyed Asmodee's Steam implementation of Carcassonne but it couldn't measure up the incredible greatness that was the CodingMonkey's iOS implementation. I will hate to see this app pass on but I likely will pick up the Asmodee version when it is available.

I'm curious what all of you think? I can't imagine I'm the only one saddened by this news.

News and Events / Re: US Asmodee Shop has some discounted Carcassonne

It appears the discount on expansions 6 and 10 has ended but even so I just wanted to highlight that online shop is a great way to pick up the Festival 10th anniversary and the School expansions both in English.

News and Events / Cundco Advent Season Sale 2019
« on: November 27, 2019, 01:56:26 AM »
Dear members,

THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Cundco has just quietly (at least quietly to me anyway) launched their advent season sale for 2019. Per usual you can get the Spiel 2019 promo tile with a minimum 20 Euro purchase. In addition to that they are offering what is known as the Carcassonne Tinbox where for 24.99 Euros you get a special classic art style tin filled with your choice of 3 mini-expansions, 3 mini tuckboxes for said mini-expansions, and 1 set of 5 differently colored meeple candles. As far as I can tell this is it as far as new stuff goes!

I've made sure to already place my order, but be sure to place your order before the Spiel tiles are gone!  :yellow-meeple:

P.S. despite the 2018 appearing in the link above it is the correct link so do not be fooled or concerned.  ;)

This may be a fault of the rules themselves and not you specifically but I wanted to highlight a clarity issue with the rules. The rules state that if you raise a toll then you get points for gardens, highwaymen, sheds, and groups of travelers. However the rules do not define what a shed is. I looked all over the wiki until I remembered to look at the rules for the Markets at Leipzig and in this section ( ) they sort of better define what a shed is. It was there and then that I was able to infer what is meant by the broad term “shed.”

With more expansions taking advantage of these new CC2 exclusive icons perhaps the icons should be better defined. Also for this new expansion you should probably highlight the incompatibilities when using this expansion with the CC1 artwork like you did for the Markets at Leipzig expansion.

I don’t know if they ship outside the US but you can get the Festival in the old art from Asmodee’s US store,

EDIT: They also sell the School and both listings are legit what they say/show they are. Z-Man Games (owned by Asmodee, in the US, at least) used to (still does) sell these on their website but then last week Asmodee created one central, online store for all the various publishers they own. A while back I ordered the Festival via Z-Man Games and got exactly what I was expecting!

Oh wow it is another weird city tile like the few that are found in the Hills & Sheep expansion. I love it! :yellow-meeple:

And here we are, after beeing 99% there will be one, we can now be 100 % sure thanks to Cundco Newletter

Als Letztes haben wir noch ein paar kleine Spezials auf der Messe (neben dem Messplättchen 2019 natürlich)

The SPiel 19 tile will be given at the shop for any purchase

A merit to you for sharing this delightful news!  :yellow-meeple:

EDIT: All the new stuff, except the spiel tile are listed on Cundco’s website, though you can’t add to cart yet. I’m sure everything will be available once Essen is over!

Side note they have the new edition of Stone Age AND the expansion (renamed to “Dawn of Style”) listed as well.

Correct me if I am wrong but this feels like the first CC2 mini-expansion with color specific cardboard tokens which makes me wonder if they’ll offer the cardboard tokens in alternate colors via cundco? I doubt it, but one can hope.  :yellow-meeple:

I’ve been checking here every day for like the past two weeks waiting for this news to crop up. Glad it finally did. I’m interested in the mini-expansion as well as a few other things I’ll want to pick up from Cundco but still don’t think I am interested in the maps. I don’t care how nice of paper they’re printed on, I’d always worry about them getting ripped, torn, or something spilled on them. If they were more like playmate instead of paper I might likely reconsider.

Official Rules / Re: Scoring quiz with roads (summer tutti frutti)
« on: August 27, 2019, 09:46:57 PM »

Some questions...

Why is Yellow scoring for the big road? It has no majority! The big road has 2 meeples of each color but because Red has a meeple on a hill it breaks the tie.
Why after scoring the big road are you moving a meeple to the bathhouse? Rules say when you have more than one meeple as a part of scoring you do NOT then move one of those meeples to an available bathhouse.
Where are you getting 7 meeples as a part of the labyrinths? I only count 6.
You do realize the road at A1 is incomplete AND has an inn on it, right?
Don't forget to score the Big Top at game end!

If I think of more I'll edit my post accordingly.

Other than having to brush up on some of the rules interactions, this wasn't that difficult and I enjoyed working through it.

Well I've made the effort to tackle this quiz. I really feel like I made a mistake or missed something but I certainly tried my best and hopefully followed the current consensus from the other thread accordingly. Anyway...

4 points (Mage) for Red (B1) - After
25 * 2 + 1 = 51 points for Blue (C1) - After
0 points for Red (G1) (Yellow has majority via hill) - After
4 points (Ringmaster bonus) for Blue (C2 / D4) (Red has majority via hill) - During
(25 * 3) / 2 (Core Road) + 3 (Little Buildings) + 4 (Bath House) + 6 * 2 (Meeples on a Labyrinths) + 2 * 3 (German Castle Bonus Points) + 3 (Fairy) + 7 (Watchtower Bonus) + 23 (Wainwrights Quarter Bonus) = 96 points for Red (D2 / A3) - During*
12 11 (German Castle) + 4 (Big Top Bonus) = 16 15 points for Yellow (E2) - after**
25 * 2 + 2 = 52 points for Yellow (C3) - during
0 points for Yellow (F3 / E5) - during
4 points for Yellow (G3) - after
4 (Big Top Bonus) + 5 (Acrobat) = 9 points for Red (D5) - After
4 (Big Top Bonus) + 5 (Acrobat) = 9 points for Blue (D5) - After

4 points for Blue - During
96 points for Red - During*
52 points for Yellow - During

4 + 9 = 13 points for Red - After
51 + 9 = 60 points for Blue - After
16 15 + 4 = 20 19 points for Yellow - After**

* Red would be entitled to an additional point if you consider the little building on the halfling tile in the bottom right corner to be a part of the mega road that would get scored. As far as I can tell there is no official clarification on this particular interaction. The only thing we have to go on is that if a meeple is on a halfling tile and is connected to another halfling tile that would form a whole tile and that other halfling tile has a hill on it then that meeple gets the benefit of the hill.
** Yellow would be entitled to an additional point if you were to use the house rule suggested in the WICA under the German Castles section of the Halflings entry ( ). I don't think you are using any house rules though because if you were using the house rules then by those very house rules the German Castle with the Yellow meeple on it would've already been completed and scored. I also couldn't imagine a situation were you'd only follow one of the house rules and not both.

EDIT: modified my answers to suit the slight change to the quiz.
EDIT2: Forgot to award the Big Top bonus to the Yellow meeple on the German Castle. I've updated my scores accordingly.
EDIT3: Corrected scoring for Yellow on G3

News and Events / Re: UK Carcassonne Championships 2019

This was a fun read! I enjoyed reading of your progress game over game. I do have to ask though, unless I am blind, how is that city in that final game worth 28 points? By my count it is only worth 26 points (2 x (11 tiles + 2 coat of arms)) and I can't see any other feature that could've been played along with the final tile that would've gotten the two other points. I did consider the possibility you made a typo but then I'd have to accept that you made that typo twice. That seems unlikely.
