General / Re: Suggestion:COVID-19 for Spiel 20 Tile
« on: Today at 01:59:49 AM »
Welcome to for the forum Lydster!  An interesting mechanism that your son has thought of, HiG had a mini-expansion in development, that was quite similar about 18 months ago.  I'm not sure if they continued developing it.

Generally on this thread, I think that fund-raising for the fight against COVID-19 is a worthy cause. I do not think that representing a pandemic that is estimated to take the lives of 350000 people in cardboard form is entirely tasteful. If I ask myself: If a loved one died, would I actually want to own and play Carcassonne with tiles that reproduce, and entirely belittles, that terrible experience?  I would not.

I'd rather see something that is unrelated, or at least embodies the sense of international cooperation towards the greater-good, or hope, without having to model the untimely deaths of citizens.

My thoughts are out to those fighting and affected by COVID-19.

Since Carcassonne-on-Tour stopped, it's difficult to know.  It's mostly dependant on HiG's development cycle.
They usually release stuff around Easter and Christmas, with larger things at the Nuremberg International Toy Fair a few weeks before Essen.

Official Rules / Re: forgotten meeple scoring
« on: April 06, 2020, 08:18:12 AM »
Great topic  :(y)

I'm going to be draconian.  If you miss it when it completes, you shouldn't get the points because you only score features when they complete.

But ZMan the rules say when you score a monastery, it earns you 9 points and allows you to take your meeple back.

So you don't even need to take your meeple back  :o

The Jack Vassel Memorial Fund Auction 2020 is running on BGG at the moment.  Not for much longer though.

The GC promo is available there, and for a good cause:

Upcoming Scheduled Games / Dominion online game
« on: March 26, 2020, 03:34:49 PM »
Dan, RichTheFish and I hooked up this evening on our slack channel to play a game.

Rich couldn't even upgrade to a premium account on BoardGameArena because there are so many games taking place.

So we decided to sign up to

It's a really great implementation, although I don't appreciate the subscription model for accessing the expansions. So we played a random selection of basegame cards.

Here were the results:

As you can see, my deck was nowhere near sharp enough to compete with Rich's

Great game guys, looking forward to a rematch soon.

Hopefully no one thinks we should migrate to another popular forum.

....Edit: Should have captured the buy row:

Artisan (6), Bandit (5), Market (5), Moneylender (4), Council Rooms (5)
Moat (2), Harbinger (3), Merchant(3),  Workshop (3),Gardens (4)

Upcoming Scheduled Games / Re: Keep Calm and Play Carcassonne

Thanks for the game last night Dan and JB!

It's been far too long, and it was great sitting in my new cave. Made some silly moves, but probably not enough to recover 38 points!

I have to say, based on this experience the online server was up to the task.  I'll see if I can set my router up this morning to forward ports, just in case.

Great having a pre-match call before the game with Squiffy and Dan too.

Unofficial Rules / Re: Leaving gaps on the board game

Welcome to Carcassonne Central Olivier!

It's a very important part of Carcassonne strategy to leave pieces incomplete.
The rules do not require you to complete features, and especially not for other players.
Tiles can be placed anywhere where it connects to the existing board and so that all of the edges that do connect to the board match their neighbouring tiles (Field to Field, City to City, Road to Road, River to River).

It's great fun when you figure out that certain tiles are no longer available, and your opponent won't get their meeple back this game  >:D >:D >:D

Hi there,

it's hard to say exactly, but can you Save your game state and try to open the game as if it were a local game?

Good for you.

Looking forward to seeing what other items you have in store Rosco. You're supporting some great causes and taking on the UK's peaks is something else!

Variance is likely due to which manufacturer is making the tiles and possibly minor changes between production runs.

You're going to need a bigger spreadsheet!
