to a kind lady on eBay who sold me a first edition of Carcassonne (look - no Spiel des Jahres logo! :D)

It's been a good day! :(y)

I wondered who the person was that had the bids cancelled and a new BiN setup... I was planning to snipe on that... Glad it has gone to an appreciative home.

I didn't cancel anything, but I offered a price that she was happy with so she set up a Buy it Now and I bought it. Definitely an appreciative home! 8)

You know what I mean :) Bugs me when it happens and I really wanted it... I was mostly watching it to see what it went for
Whatever it is, it's probably in the post from Germany...

My usual policy is to be upfront about how much I'm prepared to pay. I offered a price that was in keeping with how rarely seen these are, and how much I could afford to pay (or how little I couldn't afford to pay as the case may be! :) )

I know that waiting until the dying seconds before placing a bid is pretty much common practice, but if people were prepared to bid with their best price beforehand it might ensure that the seller has a good idea of the kind of price their item might fetch and would be less inclined to sell directly. It had reached £21 with 4 days to go and there had only been 3 bids. I realise that this isn't for everyone, but I think it makes eBay a fairer place to buy and sell if people avoid bid-sniping on principle.

I could also point out that I bought it via a Buy it Now which wasn't restricted in terms of who it was available to. Technically anyone could have bought it! :P

How much does a first edition Carcassonne like that usually fetch anyway?  I've never tried to hunt one down, thinking that it'd be price way beyond what I'd be willing to spend.  Also not so sure I'd recognize one immediately.
Who got a smudge on the tile?

Argh, that was you Dan! I was watching that listing as well, I had put in an original £20 bid with the intention of going much higher and checked back later in the week to see that the listing had been cancelled :(

I even tried to offer the seller more than your £75 "Buy It Now" price, but I never heard back from them.

Oh well, I'm glad it went to someone who will appreciate it at least and glad that you got the Wheel Of Fortune book as well.

Did you get it from Cundco? I saw a couple of those go for over £100 on eBay when they first came out a few years ago because:

1) There were apparently only 1000 boxes (don't know how true this was)
2) They contained an "exclusive" expansion (die Belagerer - later available via Cundco directly)
3) They were only available in Germany and couldn't be bought online

HiG made a lot of German folk very rich with that one! ::)

Good buys by the way! :(y)

Yep - straight from Cundco - I posted in the Cathar/Siege/Besiegers thread... bizarrely in this case I was more interested in the box than the content (since I already have the expansions and the base game) - but since I became interested, I've acquired a BW box anyway...

Hello. My name is hunnymonster and I'm a Carcassonne-o-holic.  :black1-meeple:

Even better - as I was decanting Winter Edition into the BW box, I appear to have received a faulty packing of the game with 96 cards (instead of 84) - didn't notice as I pressed the tiles out - rather when the "84" tiles  wouldn't fit in the tray... Obviously I've kept the 12 extra tiles out (Mrs hunnymonster decried me instantly as a "purist")

Today brought La Strada into the mail box.

This Martin Wallace design has some mechanics that would be familiar to Carc players and is easy to learn and quick to play.

Action Point Allowance System
Area Control / Area Influence
Area Enclosure
Hand Management
Modular Board
Route/Network Building
Tile Placement

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/9675/la-strada

I found a good price on this and thought I would give it a chance.
