Title: Board Gaming and Shelter-in-Place
Post by: t2k on March 19, 2020, 03:33:40 PM

With the Covid-19 Pandemic, and Shelter-in-Place in effect in many places, remember that all of us need social interaction to keep us from becoming depressed.  This is likely to go on longer than a full game of "Twilight Imperium" with maximum player count.  Sorry for a little humor, but we need to keep things light, through a serious and possibly deadly time.  Gaming with family is one of the great activities I am sure we all enjoy.  And whether we're playing Carcassonne, or any board game, what we share as people with table talk and togetherness is more important than who wins or loses, but who plays the game and that all have a good time.

The local big box store put up a display by the checkout with many games and labeled it Family Game Night.  I think they get it - people need to be together, even with the need for social distancing.

We played Pandemic and lost. We still had a good time though.

My very morbid sense of humour caused me to buy Pandemic Legacy – Season 2 today. Granted, I've been wanting to play it since I finished Season 1, but the timing was not coincidental. The world's being destroyed by a pandemic, what will you do? Why, play a game where you recover from a global pandemic!

We finally opened Charterstone and played our first game.  My wife likes it, but I really don't dig it yet.

We just finished our Charterstone campaign during the shut-in. I thoroughly enjoyed it, since there is a multitude of options each turn and no forced direction of what to do next. My wife didn’t like it for that same reason. I’ve gotta somehow convince her now to play through a 2nd campaign of it.

Strange fact about a time and situation.  Go to Amazon.com and look for the Pandemic Game series.  Most are sold out on Amazon but may be available from other sellers.
