Counting Tiles
« on: October 25, 2014, 12:13:06 PM »
Counting tiles can be an important part of Carcassonne, and you can't count tiles unless you know which tiles are included in the game that you're playing. Of course, the CAR has pictures of every tile for every expansion. But I wanted to create a list of draw tiles by tile type (considering only the four edges), and here it is.

I hope I got it all right. Please let me know if you spot any errors.

Some random observations (assuming my list is correct!):

- The CFRF tile (the ‘rat-tail’) is not in the base game, nor in Traders and Builders. So in a ‘classic’ game featuring I&C and T&B, there is only the one from I&C. But they did a good job inserting it into later expansions so there are 10 in total (counting the Windroses only once).

- The CRFF tile and its ‘opposite’ tile CFFR, also ommited from the base game, both feature only three times in the whole series, making them much rarer than the CFRF.

- The CFRR tile and its ‘opposite’ CRRF tile are both featured three times in the base game. But the CFRR tile features much more heavily in the expansions - 15 times in total (counting the Windroses only once), compared with only 10 times for the CRRF tile.

- The rarest tile in the whole series is the CFCR (or CRCF) tile which features only three times, including twice in Traders and Builders (the other one is on the GQ#11 expansion).

Wow, that is quite an epic list! Merit for you jungleboy  :(y)

I don't mind admitting that I do try to count tiles where I can but it's being able to track everything throughout the game (rather than simply memorising tile configurations and associated numbers) that I struggle with. I'm getting better at it, but wouldn't even consider trying to count tiles in a game that included any more than the basic 72 tiles as there's just too much to count!

Oh $%#@, it is in the CAR. Wow, there's all sorts of stuff in the back of the CAR that I didn't know about! Anyway, it was still worthwhile to compile the list - you learn more by making lists than by reading them...
