Official Rules / Re: Castle scoring question
« on: April 19, 2015, 07:35:54 PM »
Hi Rita!

If you complete a feature (say, a city) that would have scored you 20 points regardless of whether you had a castle -- as in, you had the majority of followers anyway -- AND that feature happens to be in the vicinity of a castle in which you also have a follower, then yes, you score 40 points. 20 for the city outright, and 20 more for the follower in the castle.

Official Rules / Re: Adding the pig to a farm with a barn
« on: April 14, 2015, 09:17:15 AM »
Yes, you can.

Since you can place a pig on any field with at least one of your farmer, regardless, what else is on the field, and the "move wood phase" is before scoring, this is logic according to the rules. That's why a pig is very powerful in combination with barns.

When I first saw this question I couldn't believe this was the answer, but thinking about it, you're totally right. Holy cow (pig?), that's a really, really powerful combo!

I love the bridges; it's amazing how something so simple can open the way to much more strategic tile-placement.

Highly recommend Dominion, if you haven't played it already. It's frequently the game that gets pulled out while dinner's cooking, as after you're familiar with the basics it can be played in 30 minutes with two. Play is very simple but can get very strategic and if you start to pick up expansions for it the depth of the game increases exponentially.

Also recommend the suggestions of The Duke and Ticket to Ride.

JCloisterZone FAQ, Suggestions & Bug Reports / Re: Why 16?

Exactly right, certainly a winding field, but there are four cities: The two right above the black "16", a third to the right of a yellow meeple on the road, near the bottom-right, and the fourth up above and across the road from the Italy-shaped city shared by all four players.

And of course the pig herd tile from the River II is also part of that field, meaning that each of those four cities is worth four points apiece instead of the usual three.

Please be careful with the use of words in plural like "they" may...

It's actually quite common in English to use the singular "they" as a substitute for "he or she", when the gender of the subject is not obvious (such as here, with "the player").

Anyone know (roughly) how much shipping would be to the U.S.? Don't have a chance to order tonight but may go on an Easter egg hunt tomorrow!  ;D

Can't wait to see how many "I don't own / I never use" votes THIS one gets!  ;)

I actually DO own it, but it's still in its shrink-wrap. I'll probably never use it unless I stumble upon a second copy at a reasonable price so I feel like I can open it and play with it.

And I wasn't certain on the Wagons, so I kept it simple. Things just have to be connected to the roads, that's right.

I might be misunderstanding what you mean by "connected to the roads", but I don't believe this is true either. There's nothing illegal about placing the wagon in the ffff cloister for example, you just don't get to use the special post-scoring movement ability of the wagon in that case.

By raising these types of questions with them (i.e. interactions between features of Carcassonne 1.0 and 2.0), aren't we encouraging their viewpoint of compatibility and/or giving Carcassonne 2.0 a sort of CarcassonneCentral 'approval'? I'd like to think that as some of the game's biggest fans, our view can have a (small) impact on the future of the game.

Does anyone agree with me or is it time that I gave up on fighting against the new artwork? :)
I'm with you, jungleboy. I don't think this is something to be encouraged.

That said, it's also our responsibility as a community to provide answers to those questions if we can, so in that sense I'm glad they're being asked.

But I shudder to think of what's going to happen for rules interactions when/if they re-release I&C as "Inns & Cathedrals & Florists" where the abbots can go to buy plants to plant in their gardens and hope they don't get eaten by another player's rabbit (new figures included for the Carc 2.0 release) before they are scored.
