Title: Carcassonne Japan Edition
Post by: Carcatronn on February 16, 2021, 03:04:10 PM
My buddy got me a copy of Carcassonne from his trip to Japan - I was so hoping the bottoms had a J instead of the C, but the J was just for the box art, <sigh>  :'(

Still cool it came with the Japanese Buildings  8)

I live in Japan, and this was what first got me into Carcassonne.  It's too bad they don't sell any expansions here though.  I had to import all of mine.

On a side note, I have been to all of the Japanese buildings depicted on the special tiles except for the Giant Buddha in Kamakura, and Horyuji temple, which I don't think is a particularly unique structure.  I actually used to live just a five minute walk away from Goryokaku park, the star shaped fort, and have been there more times than I can count.

I picked this up on a visit to Japan about 2 years ago.  It was nice going to the Mobius HQ in Tokyo.

On a previous visit to Japan I went to the Giant Buddha in Kamakura - The Second largest Buddha in all Japan!

It's well worth a visit, just to see his sandals.  I have fond memories of the train ride up there too.  Someone lost a wallet and a school child had carefully placed it on a post.  It was still there 50 minutes later.  It was quite busy too with children going to school around 8.30.

For a few pennies you get to go inside the Giant Buddha too!

Man you guys make me want to go to Japan now! Very cool stories. I may need to lug Carcassonne with me and play Japanese Buildings near each of the buildings (how do I top playing Carcassonne in Carcassonne?)

You have to go when the sakura is at its peak!

Wolnic has some tiles inspired by sakura too.

If you want some extras with Japanese inspiration, just have at this meeple set at Meeplesource.com:

Check here to see how I planned to use these meeples in Japanese-inspired Carcassonne games.
