JCloisterZone FAQ, Suggestions & Bug Reports / Save game bug
« on: April 03, 2015, 01:35:23 AM »
This bug happened in our last weekly game. I noticed before that JCZ doesn't ask me if I want to overwrite existing save then I do that. The same happened yesterday. Our game hung because one of the players ran out of power on his laptop. I saved the game and we continued it shortly after. Then near the end of the game another already known bug came in: red line with "Null pointer exception" text on it. Nobody could do a move, so I decided to save it and recreate. I saved it in the same file, as I did before, but, as I wrote before, no questions asked about overwriting old save. I thought that it is "by design", but when I loaded the saved game it appeared to be the old save, from the start of the game! So JCZ simply didn't save a game on an old spot without any warning! So I suggest to include some warnings about overwriting files or about NOT saving, because file already exists.

Official Rules / Carcassonne: The Castle, wall tiles question
« on: March 20, 2015, 02:57:11 AM »
Recently I bought "Carcassonne: The Castle" and yesterday had the first game with my son. Very interesting mechanics, hard to get used to it :)
I have one question regarding wall tiles receiving: if the placement of a castle tile results in more than one [my] completed feature, am I allowed to score them separately and stop by in the middle to receive a wall tile? For example, I have 28 points, and I have completed a road and a castle for 4 and 6 points accordingly. Am I allowed to score a road first, stop by on "32", receive wall tile and move on to "38" with my castle's 6 points? Or I have to count 10 points all together, thus don't receive wall tile?

News and Events / [LV] Carcassonne mini-tournament 2015
« on: February 17, 2015, 01:07:22 AM »
Third year in a row I organize my own Carcassonne mini-tournament with cooperation with local distributor. Every year I try it to be different, this year isn't an exception. The format will be like our Carcassonne Central World Cup (I decided it to be like that already after previous mini-tournament). Every single game in this tournament will run with different expansion and expansions will never repeat. Final game will be with 2 expansions. I have 33 expansions, so with 16 participants I can do this without any problems. Expansions will be picked randomly for every game. Prize is the same - Carcassonne base game with one expansions OR two expansion. Plus I have some signed tiles from kettlefish that also will be prizes and the main prize from me will be Carcassonne meeple-shaped photo-frame.
The event is scheduled for 28.02, so stay tuned for a future report! :)

According to "Complete Annotated Rules" only knights can escape from besieged city through nearby cloister. JCZ allows to escape also builders separately. This should be fixed (in JCZ).

Anything Else / A new Carcassonne fan was born
« on: November 06, 2014, 03:30:38 PM »
Just a few hours ago my wife gave birth to our beautiful daughter! I was together with her from the start till the end, and I'll tell you, guys: there are very few moments of your life that you'll never forget, and the moment when your child is borning definitely is Nr. 1! Our first child was born though Cesarean birth, so this is my first real opportunity to help my wife at all stages.
So now I am a happy daddy again! :)

One more rule clarification that needs to be fixed in JCZ:
Removing a follower from a city with the help of Princess doesn't allow to place a Phantom (not only in that city - nowhere). Proof - CAR 7.0.2 p.125, note 386.

Official Rules / German Monasteries and Halflings interaction
« on: October 29, 2014, 11:11:13 PM »
Yesterday I had my regular Carcassonne game night and one good question was asked:
Since holes in the map can stop German Monasteries' score chain from growing, do holes from Halflings also can stop this chain? And continue it if both halves are filled?
We played treating halfling tile as a whole tile, but maybe Halflings are a good way to stop them from getting so many points?
And yes, I agree with most of the others, that German Monasteries score huge amount of points, especially in games this several expansions involved. In fact, nobody in all our games used German Monastery as a cloister.

General / Hills for fields
« on: September 18, 2014, 06:04:22 AM »
Just closely have read rules for Sheep and Hills and discovered that hills can be used for fields too!
Did you know about it right from the start and how often you use hills to steal a field?

General / Why national champions are not represented on the forums?
« on: September 15, 2014, 05:22:05 AM »
I always wondered why players, who play very good and in fact are or were national champions, are not represented on the largest English-speaking Carcassonne forum? I don't believe they didn't any search in the Internet about Carcassonne and didn't see CarcassonneCentral. Maybe language issue? I am sure they all know English. Maybe they are not interested in anything except national championship? I know some people, who are not playing Carcassonne all year, but come to national tournament, in the same time saying that Carcassonne itself is a boring game.
IMO they see Carcassonne only as a sports, but they are not fans of the game and don't see any purpose in registering and discussing.
What are your thoughts?

Official Rules / River U-turns
« on: September 06, 2014, 07:44:58 AM »
During our today's semifinal with jungleboy in the very first game we with jungleboy broke the River!
Jungleboy and I made some U-turns and we made it impossible to continue! JCloisterZone interpreted this situation as and game end (with 120 tiles left) and gave us final credits :)
Interesting what we should do in such situation playing with real tiles? My thought is: continue the game ignoring the rest of remaining river tiles.

Other Games / Ticket to Ride championship
« on: August 30, 2014, 06:24:10 AM »
Just returned from national Ticket to Ride championship. I think that the format used in the tournament is wrong.
We were 9 participants, played on 3 tables, 3 players on each. 2 games were played, one on USA map and 1 on Europe map. I won both games. But 3 finalists were determined by the sum of points from two games and by that factor I remained 4th. Maybe it is the only championship in the world where you can win all qualifying games and don't get to the finals :-\
What do you think? Is it fair format? ???

First game started quite peacefully. Soon I have finished 14-point city, although Carcking has tried to trap me in this city. But, as I have written before, I've got some lucky draws. After a moment I saw a potential in two farm, later I joined them into one big farm. Carcking started to try to connect to it almost at the end of the game, maybe that is why he was unsuccessful in that mission. The same applies to the big city: first follower was mine (the one with number "18" on it) and my opponent has connected his meeple after the city became quite big. I immediately connected another one, Carcking tried the same, but, after I have counted the tiles I made it impossible to connect (all cccx tiles have gone). Although Carcking was very cautious player (meaning follower placement), throughout the game I was attempting to trap Carcking's followers, mainly in cloisters, and as a result he needed cfrr tile in three different places. He was able to draw one as one of the last tiles of the game, when it didn't have big influence on the final score.
Final score - 106:50.

In the second game we have switched colors. Quite early we almost simultaneously started to build a big city, soon I have connected another follower, but to my surprise Carcking didn't try the same. As a result I finished it, earning 30 points. In this game Carcking was the same cautious player, and in the middle of the game I came out of followers, rather Carcking had 4 followers in his supply. Again to my surprise Carcking didn't try to trap my followers to force me live without followers till the end of the game. Instead he aggressively started to fight for the farm and only with one of the last tiles (see bottom yellow follower) I was able to balance the farms' score. In the end we both were out of followers and the city to the right remained unclaimed.
Final score - 132:96.
