So can we officially start the trash-talking yet? ;)

I think I'm in... though have first bambino on the way in six weeks, so don't have super huge amounts of time and don't want to be "that guy" the only plays half his matches.

I ordered it, then cancelled it (it was delayed) as I hadn't fully appreciated the mechanics of it and it just sounded too disruptive (combined with the bridges essentially making traps impossible).

Don't really have much reason to re-buy it, and hardly a glowing review here either :)

One question I do have, and it's asked only out of curiosity - as the other expansions already work in single-player, why is it so hard to implement them into multi-player? Surely if the rules for placement and scoring have been defined once, adding them to multi-player is easy? I have zero knowledge of programming, so it really is just out of interest, not meant to sound like a dig!

I know what you mean. Maybe it's something to do with the fact that these have to be paid for in addition to the app itself so it might be a case of "what happens if someone tries to start a Traders & Builders games against someone who doesn't have it"?

But once they've got that sorted, as they now have with River 2.. surely it's the same logic for all expansions?

I only got the update last night? River 2 added to multi-player to be precise, not the expansion itself...? You couldn't turn off the remaining tiles either pre-update, just choose whether to show broken tiles or not :)

Hurrah - new update last night, including the ability to turn on/off displaying remaining tiles  :(y)

Also added River 2 expansion which is nice. ^-^

Official Rules / Re: The Builder..

IMHO it's the bets expansion as it allows for some seriously good tactical planning. So much so, I don't even think of it as an expansion anymore - when I play with friends and we play "vanilla" Carc, this includes Biggy and the Builder.

No no they mean that the old back is still the same on the new tiles.. so The grey side is still there

I'm not sure that's the case as the backs haven't changed between versions so the only "old" and "new" is the front.

This is only one reseller, and they might have got their wires crossed, but doesn't seem like a great idea. Would mean accidental glimpses of tiles in the bag would be quite easy, and the tile-hiding in Sheep & Hills becomes redundant.

I've orderd BC&B from a supplier and it's being pretty delayed. I did get the below from them though:

We do now have a reason for the delay though – they recently updated the main Carcassonne game and it’s tiles, so are updating the tiles in the expansions too. (The old tiles will still be on the back of the new ones so everything remains compatible)

This sounds like they're doing double-faced tiles, with no grey side to them?!

Eeeesh - I find 4-player games tiresome, 8-players? You'd be able to watch a film between turns, and it would be extremely hard to have any real strategy as you've only got a 1/8 chance of pulling a specific tile.

I'd enforce a strict time-limit per turn so at least you're not waiting half an hour between turns.

Only played with it twice so far, and in the second game it was definitely more of an insurance play, rather than aggressive. It forces your opponent to add a Biggy, or 2 meeples, to win a feature, or hold out and wait for the hill.

I thought for farmers this would be particularly useful, but actually it was quite easy to get another hill involved in a farm (as all hills are in farmland), whereas a city can be pretty tough.

My only other thoughts were taking the tile out face-down required either looking into the tile-bag to ensure you took a tile out without seeing it (which could lend itself to some surreptitious cheating) and/or accidentally glimpsing the tile thus giving you an advantage (again... basically cheating).

The only other way was to take a tile out at random, replace it if face-up (whereby you know what's left in the bag) and then try again until you get a face-down tile.

I actually like the idea of burying tiles though - even against people who don't tile-count, if a cathedral or a typical anti-trap tile (e.g. RFCF) gets buried - it could add a good element of suspense at the last few tiles as it gains a nice quantum state of either being in the bag or buried and you won't know until it's either pulled or end-game.

Definitely - agree about the tile counting, I try not to look. Just noticed of 2 (maybe 3 actually, think there was a CRRF at the end too?) tiles which would've joined me in, you got them all :P

1 - 0 it is ;)
Best of 99?

Ha - 2 straight roads remaining and you got them both... think the farm would've swung it for me?

GG though, sorry it took so long - just realised we're in different time zone :)

@exozet - In my opinion, the list of remaining tiles should not be available during online matches. Maybe this is a personal thing but I’m a bit of a purist and I prefer to rely purely on memory; having a list of tiles on hand to refer to is too much of an advantage. If others disagree (which they’re perfectly entitled to) then maybe there should be a profile option to disable this and only hook me up with other players who also have this disabled. This would lead to fairer, more balanced games in my opinion.

Massive +1 to this...

Think I included this in my Play store review - but this should at least be a toggle, but ideally just not appear in online games. In real-world Carc, you can't see what's left in the bag, so it shouldn't really be an option in an online match.

Other things I'd like to see (if you're still monitoring this form - top marks for doing so by the way!)

  • Match tally for keeping track of matches played against friends
  • Abbey & Mayor ;)
  • Quick match for more than 2-player game

Still in "beta" apparently, so maybe it will be added.
