So it looks like we're getting (assuming this is also the German and US components) Inns & Cathedrals, Traders & Builders, and the 7 Carcassonne minis + The River and The Abbot = 11 expansions, as advertised. Meh. I do like the new art for the mini boxes, though. Those look kind of interesting.

Base Game + 11 Expansions @ 51 Euro is actually not bad at all and its a nice setup for people new to CARC, will definitely be advising alot of my friends to get the big box, i just hope that the minis will be made availible seperately in September as well so that I am not forced to buy bigbox just to get my hands on them..... not very patient. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm hoping that it gets released in the USA this year. This would be perfect for me. My mom wants Inns & Cathedrals and Traders & Builders. I want the 7 Minis. My friend is thinking about getting the Base game.

I would get the Big box for myself and give my current copies of I&C and T&B to my mom. She would not mind having second hand from me. I keep everything in excellent condition.

As for the Base, I could sell it used to my friend or keep it as a second Base for longer games.

Uhm, a bit sad about this announcement. was hoping more standalone expansions in thie big box V2, the Minis are by far what I was wanting the least.

Thanks for the link Vasek. Not unsurprising to see what's been included, but still seems like a good value set and hopefully one that will help many new players discover the game for the first time.

Interested to know more about the "Carcassonne for 2" as well. Sounds like maybe an extended version of the Carc 2 demo version that was released previously (albeit in a limited way).

I agree that it is not what I was hoping for, but as least I can make this work for me. I've always tried to organize all my expansions into the main box, but am running out of room. So a big box will be nice for me in that respect also. Hopefully the big box comes with a bigger bag for tiles.
I have everything in tuck boxes. Even made score cube tuck boxes for each color player pieces (0[lid],50,100,150,200,250).

The box dimensions are almost the same as the big box. But there are only 48 tiles....perhaps the tiles are enormous!

It's a shame it looks like they still don't include a cloth bag when it includes Traders & Builders!

I'm at the point where despite being in the old edition camp, I *may* buy into the new, though only when they create a Big Box with more new expansions (such as Under the Big Top). That way I can justify it to my Wife  ;D

If i read it correctly, the price is in CHF, so it will be around £40, or around €45 for the box. I'd say a very good price for the game with 11 expansions!
I'm gonna have to keep it on my watchlist im afraid...

I won't deny it, gonna go buy it. But this big box is a pure rip off.

11 "expansions" including The River and The Abbot as such. Aside from two large expansions the rest are mini expansions.
The price here in Sweden will be as much or more as buying everything separate.

This is exciting news. Hopefully this means that it will be released by Christmas in the USA. Now the only main expansions with no ZMAN announcement are 6,8, and 9 as 7 is not set to be reprinted as of now.

Really? I thought the price was gonna be alright, or will the price in Sweden be much higher? Normally the base game (€20), and 2 big expansions (€13 each) is about as much as the big box already, so if the price shown will be true, it will be a good price i recon. I don't know the prices in Sweden of course, but it would surprise me if everything together would be cheaper to buy separately.

20 Euro Base game incl River and Abbot
10 Euro each big expansion
25 Euro Minis complete
Totaling 55 Euro

Big box cost 65-85 Euro.

These prices are based on Big Box 3 and following releases.

Hang on, the Big Box contains 2 large expansions:

20 + 10 + 10 + 25  = 65 Euros.

Good luck finding the minis for 25Euros - the new edition are not in print and only announced in the Big Box.
Given this is a reprint of BigBox 4 I think that's a better comparison.

Ah, forgot to count it twice.

As mentioned in another thread, I can acquire 3000 complete sets of minis for roughly 25 Euro each, but they are not in English.

I think you are using the numbers a little bit to prove your point. To be honest I don't like the composition of this new big box but you can't deny it's cheaper.

You set a price of 20€ for the base game. Pretty cheap considering you are in Sweden. Here in Spain is around 23-25 (cundco 23+ shipping)

You can find the big expansions at 10. Again a great deal here I cannot find any of them under 15 (on cundco the cheapest is at 13+shipping)

With the small ones you are right starting selling price was 25. But you can't buy them any other way than in the new big box or paying 35+ for the old art ones.

On the other hand it is easy to find big boxes on the 45-50€ range.

The way I see it is:
23+15+15+25=78
Against 50 for the big box

All numbers are actual numbers, ie today's prices. Stands to reason that a big box should be cheaper than the sum by themselves, but it's not. The minis are at 25 Euro with free shipping.

It must be a problem with big boxes on your country.

Because I do not doubt you can get all the individual items that cheap but the difference with the big box price is so much higher than Europe's average.

According to CoolStuffInc.com:

Carcassonne: Big Box 6 (2017)
Estimated USA Release Date: October 2017. Date subject to change.
Regular Price: $80.00
Pre-Order Price: $67.99

http://www.coolstuffinc.com/p/245660

Current Prices Breakdown as of 7/29/2017 in the USA
Game Part/PriceRetailCoolStuffInc.comMiniatureMarket.com
Carcassonne$34.99$29.79$27.99
Inns & Cathedrals$17.99$15.29$14.39
Traders & Builders$17.99$15.29$14.39
Base + I&C + T&B$70.97$60.37$56.77
Big Box 6 (2017)$80.00$67.99NA
Extra Cost (6 Minis)$9.03$7.62NA

Both CoolStuffInc.com & MiniatureMarket.com have a $6.00 Ground Shipping & Handling in the USA for 48 States (NOT Hawaii & Alaska) for orders under $100.

MiniatureMarket.com states that Big Box 5 was $74.99 Retail and that their Sale Price was $59.99 and often competes with CoolStuffInc.com, so I would expect similar range for Big Box 6 once available for Pre-Order.

This places the extra cost for the Minis to be under $10 which is worth it to me.

Also in the US, I can find an individual Mini for $25+ and the entire set of 6 for $110+ in the old art. Neither of these are good/reasonable buying options. As such, I have MOSTLY new art I would prefer the Minis to be new art anyways.

The only items I have in OLD art are German Cathedrals & The Labyrinth (I have Both the New & Old Art Tiles).

I'd say it's comparable. 172 landscape tiles played in 35 minutes = 12.2 seconds per tile. Doesn't include end game scoring. So it's definitely something.

Havent been able to find any dutch (web)shops that have it for pre order yet. The only UK one i found is https://www.chaoscards.co.uk/board-games-c800/all-board-games-c550/z-man-games-carcassonne-big-box-2017-p151442
Price of about £70, which is quit expensive i think.
At bonifatius its much cheaper for the German version https://www.bonifatius-buchhandlung.de/produkt-1996/carcassonne_big_box_2017_spiel/9837949.
And the english version seems to come out about a month after the dutch/german version. And maybe more expensive...

On the one hand, touting 11 expansions is kind of a stretch when it's really only the base game plus nine other separate products. Big Box 5, by comparison, did not count The River or the extra purple and pink follower sets as expansions; it used a more reasonable claim of "base game, 4 expansions, and much more." But BB6 wants to count even the Abbot separately, even though all indications are that it will always be a part of the Carc-II base game.

On the other hand, if their strategy was to count literally every "module" that you could optionally include or exclude as a game mechanic, then they should have put a big 12 on the box: they forgot to count Farming as optional.  >:D

I think it's worth remembering that the base game consists of 72 tiles and nothing else. Just because the new art edition includes the Abbot doesn't mean that this shouldn't still be considered an expansion. The River comes with the new art edition box too but this is definitely an expansion in that it's an optional component. The Abbots are optional, despite the gardens having been integrated into the artwork of the original/ basic tiles.

I think the claim that it includes 11 expansions is legitimate, although it will inevitably cause some disapppointment as anyone who already owns the new artwork edition is guaranteed to own at least 2 of them...

The English version may end up sooner in Europe. According to the local store, it's up to the stores themselves ordering one from the States. One of my local store ordered in 2 copies in case I couldn't wait for the Scandinavian release in October.

Well said Dan, at the end of the day its very easy to pick holes in  anything the publisher decides to do.  You might not like the shade of blue they used on the box. While I thik it will make it easier to distinguish on my gaming shelf.  It's easy to moan about the new artwork. But new players having been buying the new artwork for 3 years now and they've enjoyed playing Carcassonne and those players would like more.  This box has expansions that have not been in print or readily available for a number of years now, so regardless of how many expansions are in the box, it's a worth while investment for players wanting them or wishing to start collecting.  The production quality will be immaculate as ever...and all the grass will be the same colour.

It's great to see HiG moving Carcassonne forward and appealing to new board gamers.

This places the extra cost for the Minis to be under $10 which is worth it to me.

Also, the Tower is available for pre-order $15.99 on MiniatureMarket.com (Regular 19.99). I will be ordering both of these together later this month.

We had our first play with it today! Everything as expected, but we did notice that the watermark is easier to miss when sorting out the tiles.
That will be some getting used to.
I like that in the rules (at least the dutch ones), theyve listed the (expected) time added to the game with every expansion

This is interesting:

Translation:

Many tiles have a small illustration. The letters in brackets show you which ones are on the tiles. They stand for:

G | garden
W | highwayman
B | farmhouse
S | pigsty
K | cow shed
E | donkey stable
T | water tower

The fact that they made a point to call all of these out (both here and in the base game tile list (http://www.hans-im-glueck.de/fileadmin/data_archive/Downloads/CarcBasis_II_D_Plaettchenliste.pdf) on the HiG website) adds fuel to this feeling I've had that they are planning to eventually make these illustrations relevant for gameplay. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Market of Leipzig tiles are going to have some kind of tie-in with printed farmhouses, yes?

Z-Man Games now lists Big Box 6 as "Shipping Now". Also the reprint of Inns & Cathedrals is "shipping now".  A few people have been looking for Expansion 1, and now it's back in stock.

The rules for Big Box 6 are up as well.

Thanks flipshot.  At least in the Z-man rules Farmers are labelled as an Expansion.  It also says: "In your second game, you should add the farmers."  and "After your first game, we recommend playing with farmers."  I wonder how that compares to the German edition.

I'm not sure I've got the energy to look for any subtle rule or tile changes either!

I have to say looking at the tile distribution pages, Anne Patzke has made some wonderful tiles.  I particularly like the Ferries.

Also it says: "D One of these is the starting tile (with a dark back), identified with a S".  Does the Start tile have an 'S' on it?
Title: Re: Big Box 2017
Post by: Willem on October 15, 2017, 07:42:14 AM
The dutch version is the same with the farmer suggestions.
And the mentioning of the starting tile, but no S to be found on it.
And i didnt find any rule changes in the dutch rule book.
I do like that theyve added the expected extra time the expansions take (in both dutch and english versions). Not sure how accurate they are, as they state that the abbots take 0extra minutes in a game....

Edit; i found something i havent seen before. The rfrr tile with an inn from I&C is stated as having the inn for both the left and right road, whereas in the old edition it is stated to only be for the road on the right. I dont know if this was the same in the standalone expansion in the new artwork, but it stood out to me
Title: Re: Big Box 2017
Post by: Paul on October 15, 2017, 08:14:51 AM
The S could be referred to the S on the tile count sheet in the rules.

The base games I have has this S on the tile if I remember correctly, in the tile count sheet.

Update: Yes. D at the start of that sentence is referring to the tile D where you can see the S. Basically the same as the old art rules.
Question is, did they put an actual S on the tile this time. I hope not!

Hi, I own almost every single stuff of Carc1.

I also bought exp 10, the first 2.0 I own.

Now I’m thinking: should I buy Carc 2.0 + exp1 and exp2 - we play those a lot with Carc1 - or the big box 2017 (I don’t give a s..t about the smallest 6 expansions)?

There's little other advantage of the new BB. But I think they add a nice twist to the base game.  I think price is going to be your driving factor.  Also BB gives you a great big box to put all your 2.0 tiles in!

It would have been really nice if they included the River 2 in the new 2017 Carcassonne Big Box. I feel that it gives more variation to the game than River 1, and it also has a pigsty tile that is excellent in getting extra farm points. :)
