Title: 2015 World Cup - Group G
Post by: danisthirty on September 01, 2015, 03:59:31 AM
Welcome to the group stage of the 2015 World Cup of Carcassonne Central! This thread is primarily for members of Group G to arrange matches between themselves and post scores, screenshots and the obligatory smack-talk as the group progresses. The top 2 players from this group once everyone in the group has played all 4 of their matches will advance through to the knockout stage.

Here is a list of the group members (including location):

If you haven’t read them already, please ensure that you are familiar with the tournament rules/ general information (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2012.msg27708#msg27708) (you should also receive this via email). You may also find the JCloisterZone FAQ (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=778) interesting/ useful if you have any unanswered questions about how JCloisterZone works (or you can just email me).

Good luck, and have fun!

As always, my best hours are weekdays (Mondays-Fridays) in the evening.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9 pm - Midnight (sometimes at 6:30 pm - Midnight if I'm not booked)
Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 pm - Midnight.

If ever find a slot besides these hours, let me know a day / few hours earlier, I'll see if I can make it.

Paul.

Good luck y'all!

For me, the best times would be during evenings, but not too late, because I need my beauty sleep. ;)  :pink-meeple:

Same here, weekdays are best.

So, Mon-Fri after 21:30 (20:30 UK/ 22:30 Finland).

BabyGamer: let me know if it's too late. We can arrange something.

As always, it is best to contact each other via private messages to make appointments.

Good luck!

Due to an apparent "bug" with the way River 1 is implemented within JCloisterZone, please avoid using this expansion in your game. At this stage of the competition we will now be using Inns & Cathedrals and King & Robber Baron only.

Paul 185 vs Jere 163

I had the farm in my hand when Jere got lucky placing big follower, standard follower to the right of it and then pulls the cloister with a city from the King expansion.

This done 3 turns in a row and we ended up sharing the farm. But I got a lot of points from completing many small roads which helped me a lot I think.

I also experienced a glitch with the big follower placed on a farm when I did undo it was still marked but placed on the road it placed a standard follower instead. This glitch worked in my favour though.

Congrats Paul. You played well and you deserved to win.

Just one comment though, as we discussed in the game chat, there is an important aspect of the game that you do not understand: the configuration of a tile is defined by the edges, not by the features on the tile.  I tried to explain to you that this cfff with cloister from the King & Baron expansion is quite a common tile, in fact just a cfff tile. So there was no luck there, in my opinion.  C:-)

Dear all in Group G,

I'm free to play most days (working hours). Evenings are often trickier but I can usually be around after 2200 BST.
I'm out tomorrow (Wednesday) evening though.
I'm free from 3pm Saturday and Sunday too.

Yes, but considering the bug chat we had earlier, when you said "it's just a common cfff tile to me" when I said it had a cloister in it, I thought this also was a bug.

How about this Friday then? :) Next week that time might be a bit too late for me... But this Friday (4th) is OK. :)

I have a game at 9PM Finnish time, and when that is done, I could play against you? :)

BTW... What expansions are there in this cup? :)

Hi BabyGamer,

At the group stage it is just Inns & Cathedrals and King & Robber Baron. For the sake of consistency, please do not use The River.

Thanks!

Paul, maybe you want to report this, if it is not already a known bug. I noticed you clicked undo because the tile dissapeared and the large follower was replaced with a normal guy but I think only you can describe what you actually saw on your screen.

Hi everyone. Sorry for the delay in getting in touch, it's been a manic few days!
Evenings are usually the best time for me to play - sometime between 8pm - 10pm (GMT +1) would be ideal during the week, but I can be pretty flexible if I know about things in advance particularly at weekends (although not this Sunday). If anyone is free tonight or tomorrow then I'm available to play once I've downloaded 3.3.1 - just send me a PM if you want to schedule a game and I'll make sure I'm online.

So this week has gone by quick. Can't believe it's Friday already. Waiting down town for my bus but reckon I be home in 30 mins. Gonna be up late working but if by chance any G's don't have a social life this evening I may squeeze in a game.

Had some issues connecting to the forum, but now seems to work. Figure I post the game with me and Rich the Fish before things go haywire again.

Paul 190 vs Rich_the_Fish 129

Big advantages: I finished 2 big roads of 10 and 12 points and also scored that big juicy city with the cathedral all of these three by myself.

Played my final match tonight. The scores were...

Rich_The_Fish : 259  :green-meeple:
BabyGamer     : 104  :red-meeple:

To be honest, I was rather fortunate and lucked in with a few good tiles which allowed me to finish the mega city that BabyGamer kept expanding in an effort to stop me from finishing it. It was also rather late and we'd both lost all of our other games earlier tonight so we probably tried some rather unorthodox strategies in an attempt to turn things around. Cheers for the game, and good luck in your last game against Paul.

Just 2 games left in our group - let's hope we get them finished quickly and win the prize for first to finish round 1.

Tomorrow, Sunday, I can't stay up late.. Not even semi late.. Because I got important meeting at Monday morning and I can't be all poofy under eyes and messy hair..  :( Need my beauty sleep..  ^-^

Soooo.. Lets see if tonight/evening is OK? :) Or then tomorrow when I'm home? Dunno what time that would be.. Evening... Finnish time.. :)

Paul 102 vs khalidq 228

My chances of winning pretty much went out the window mid-early in the game when khalidq won the big city all by himself. With King tile I couldn't win the game even if I hacked it and took over his round. Sucks.

My chances of winning pretty much went out the window mid-early in the game when khalidq won the big city all by himself. With King tile I couldn't win the game even if I hacked it and took over his round. Sucks.

It was a fast start.  Paul attacked a single man / single tile city quite early which turned into the big city and had 4 men each on it by about tile 30.  I then vacillated between cutting my losses and separating a man (bottom left of the big city) and attacking again.  I found a way to close the city off from further attack with more of my men on it (5 vs 4 I think).  I was needing cccf and cccc but it was early in the game still, there were plenty of pieces left, I thought my chances of finishing it were high and given that it only cost me 1 man relative to Paul and that our points were roughly the same, it felt like a good bet.

But I must say, I have never ever played a game like it!

Paul 167 vs BabyGamer 98

Crazy farm battle and I was so close to have won the entire farm, scoring more than 130 points difference to advance and it all came down to the last four tiles:

I needed a single straight road, a rfrf tile. 2 of them left in the pile of 4 tiles. All I needed was ONE and last two turns for BabyGamer she got both of them!!!

Well done guys. BabyGamer, I believe this is the second World Cup in a row where you were part of the first group to finish, you must be a good influence on the others!

Congratulations to khalidqasrawi and Jéré on reaching the next round. Paul, that is a tough break that you didn't make it despite your three wins. Still, to finish with a positive PD despite a 125 point loss is an excellent achievement.

Thanks everyone! :) :(y)

That is indeed a tough break for Paul. This exact scenario is the only one in a 5-player group in which you can win 3 of your 4 games and not qualify (i.e. If the 10 wins are spread 3, 3, 3, 1, 0).

yup! :) Lat time also I was in the group that finished 1st. :) But I take no credit for that time, or this time!  :P These groupmates were eager to play, so I just hang along and played matches!  ^-^  :(y)

Won 3 matches and still not qualified for finals?? :O Woah... THAT must suck.... :/ Yes I remembered there were something about point different that even though Paul won the match against me, he lost..  :o I found that a bit confusing...  :-\ Guess it's some kind of point system? Yes indeed. But when three people have three wins each, and only two of them can proceed, there needs to be some way of determining which two go through. Someone was going to be disappointed, unfortunately on this occasion it was Paul. :(
