Title: Colour Matching of Princess & Dragon 2.0
Post by: totor66 on April 22, 2016, 12:40:19 AM
Damn, the only reason I was happy to buy Crc II is that they would finally be able to print matching green grass on all new expansions ...

Looks like I was wrong :(

Rumour is the City Brown doesn't match in the new Princess and Dragon expansion for Carc 2.0 either  :-[

Hold on - the city brown in CII P&D doesn't match the city brown in CII? That's ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. CII is their opportunity to fix silly problems like this. You'd think if they were going to remake all of their old games they would do it properly.

Bah.

Guys, only the backs of the tiles matter. Have you learned nothing?  >:D

Just kidding of course, it's inexcusable.

On the positive side, this is the first time I've seen new P&D artwork (being a non-CarcII person). I think the dragon icon, the princess icon, the portal and the volcanoes are all improvements over the original. But those green/brown colours ... i just can't.

I might split this topic -  I'm not a fan of the new magic portals - they disappear into the tile.  I'm not sure that cloister is cloistery enough either.  Check out the Volcano though, that looks brilliant (y)

Me neither.. And just because of this, I'm not even tempted to buy 2.0, even if there will appear really cool new expansions to the game that won't be released in the old artwork. Big letdown  :(n) :(n) :(n)

Woah! I thought that was a cathedral! Definitely not cloistery enough.

Interesting that they didn't take the opportunity to change the appearance (but not the functionality) of this tile to bring it in line with the iOS version - that is, with the cloister still on the tile but outside the city.

Probably a good idea, it looks like that's where this is going! The dragon looks great, as does the volcano. The princess is good too. she looks far more princessy. The magic portal looks very non-descript. The arrows are weird, too. Do we need reminding of what it does? I didn't even spot the cloister until I saw the post. Non cloistery enough. Not cloistery enough at all.

I always thought the old portals looked a bit like smaller volcanoes (weird, I know). That's why I said I like these better.

Edit: Don't like the arrows. But I like the portal itself.

I  love the dragon icon and the volcano.   I like the well, but I hate that it is surrounded by grass.  The magic portal looks like a cave.
I was wondering why there was a Cathedral tile on P&D, but I see I wasn't the only one to make that mistake.

After looking at the new art, I can't put my finger on why I hate the grass and the roads so much.  The old art somehow got it right.   I will say that the little houses in the cities with the smoke coming from them are really nice looking.

I like the fields and roads, and I think the extra touches like small cottages, smoking chimneys and other landscape features are beautiful. I dislike the pennants, with their larger size and their white glow; the blue towers, obviously; and the cloisters, which don't look cloister enough. They blend into the landscape too much, which was probably the intention, but it doesn't work in a board game if you can't recognise scorable features.

Please do! It would be nice a wider selection of tiles and see if they colour match as badly or better.

I've just been thinking about this and perhaps the player's original copy wasn't from HiG or came from a different publisher.  To my knowledge Princess and Dragon is only available from Germany at the moment and perhaps the colour palettes differ slightly due to region differences in the commercial printers used.  Don't be too hesitant to dismiss this one.

I actually like the old "princess" icon better. First because the new one looks more like a modern bimbo dressed up with a crown for carnival. Second, because in the German version it isn't a princess after all, but a "lower" noblewoman, so the crown does not fit. I wonder, why HiG did not go all the way, then and renamed the expansion "Prinzessin und Drache".

I also like the portal better, though. I, too, have this "volcano" issue, and, although the naming does not support this, I never considered this as a true "magic portal" in the vain of Stargate, but rather the entrance to a secret underground passage. This would fit the theme of regular, non-fantasy medievil Carcassonne as well of the "fairy tale" of P&D, and is also supported by either artwork on the tiles.

CCII - 3rd expansion:
It was a wish from KJW to get a the lighter brown for the background in the cities.

Does that mean that future editions of CarcII will also have this lighter colouring?

And will this include Big Boxes, assuming they do them?

Is that why they chose blue???

The roofs are a sort of grey but they mirror the blue colour of the sky. The blue of the new Carcassonne Edition is simply blue without any grey and that is awful.
