Thanks for the links.

I have no experience with "Marktplaat". Is it fairly easy to set up a payment method? Is international shipping common practice?

I have received a few wrongly labeled items from BGG myself. Sometimes you get a hidden treasure though!

I will restate this, just to avoid any unwanted buys. The first link has Kornkreise I (which you wanted), but the 2nd has Kornkresise II.

Marktplaats is the biggest 2nd hand website in the Netherlands. Most of the things on there are in an auction format, even if you see a listed price. That is kinda the price the seller aims at, and they can also set a minimum bid price. If you place a bid, it is up to the seller to agree, or wait for other offers. There's no expiry date on the listings.

International shipping is fairly common, but always good to ask when you place your bid. (When you bid it lets you send a custom message to the seller)
Most people will speak English, so I'd say you're safe messaging in English if you don't speak Dutch.

Thank you tp10053. I forgot to mention it in my previous post.

Thank you also Willem and The-Edge for the info on Marktplaat. I will see about opening an account and giving it a try.

I'm a collecter indeed.
My sources are quite simple.
All official Hans im Glück mini Expansions are bought from HiG directly.
All Spielbox expensions were bought from Nostheide Verlag, with the exception of 1 or 2 copies of Die Katharer. I got those from HiG when they accidentally found 2 boxes full of new in shrink punch boards.
My copies of the Games Quarterly expansion were bought in December 2010 and January 2011 from Troll and Toad.
The Russian promo tiles were bought from a Russian seller on eBay and that's the only expansion I bought from a private person.

Edit: I can't remember where I got my copies of the Darmstadt promo tiles. Probably also ebay.

Sadly, I found out that Markplaats requires a phone # to complete account registration, and it does not allow for US telephone numbers. I tried circumventing that with a temporary SMS phone # websites, but I couldn't get any of them to actually work (they never received the text msg from Markplaats). That's a real bummer.  :-\

That's a real bummer.  :-\

Perhaps if you prostrate for Sekim by DM'ing him here at CarcC and pledge your unwavering devotion to meeting all of his edicts and proclamations as well as pledging to only use the tiles in ways that he determines to be fit, then he may grace you with his magnanimous beneficence if you are determined to be worthy.  -  :pink-meeple:

Not making it look like someone had seen a business opportunity with the combination of offering ridiculously low prices would have worked...... but the 'shop' is 'closed' now.

Oh my. That's snarky. I suppose that you don't like honest people who tell you strait forwardly that they are collecting for multiple family members. It's clear, you just can't help but see behavior in other people that you are actually engaging in yourself. While I was initially surprised that a couple of hundred Euro for three expansions is considered to be cheap by you, but your profiteer colors are shining through. You should fly the Jolly Roger!

Anyways, for anyone that is interested in Kornkreise I, Sekim is selling again on marktplaats -

Supply and demand these days. I have tried to bid on a few, but they almost always go over $100 USD!

I wouldn't use the term 'real value'. The value of a specific item is whatever people give to it. As totec55 said, supply and demand - that is how it works with all collectibles and Carcassonne is a highly collectible game. In fact, overall it is in the cheap side of the spectrum.

I've recently seen some collections of Tolkien's works.

Books that have been in print for 75 years earning reprints, re-editions, re-done art, re-type-set, re-bound, re-done art again.

Makes my Carcassonne editions look pitiful in comparison. I'll paraphrase a rare book dealer: who said:
Quote
Precious and valuable -differs- from person to person, it's rarely about cash value as much as passion for their chosen theme, which can be anything from cricket books to hog demon curiosa.
The key is, you find books you love, and you keep them until you're ready to sell them, or maybe until you shuffle off the mortal coil. In the meantime, you enjoy having them, but you may or may not ever read them.
