Hi Khalid,

I’m never one to say no to someone who wants to join in with a competition, but it might be tricky as we’re at 12 players now, meaning 6 teams. We need an even number of teams so that each team will have another team to play against in each round, which means we need an additional 3 players to form 8 teams if you’re included.

I’m happy to start with 8 teams instead of 6, but I need to think of everyone else too, so we’ll give it until the end of the week to see if there are 3 other interested parties, and if there are we’ll start the competition at the beginning of next week with 8 teams rather than 6. Hope this seems fair to you.

So, if anyone else is interested there are now 3 places left which will be allocated to the next 3 people to respond. Get involved people; it’s going to be a blast!

Dan, that's so gracious.  Thank you.  Phew!

My better half, Imelda McLoughlin, would like to join me on a team.  If another pair doesn't appear, then we'll be happy to step away.

Looking forward to battling playing.

No problem at all Khalid. :(y)

So the fact that you're entering a new team rather than as an individual means we only need another 2 players.

Come on guys, it'll be fun! :)

Ha ha. Nice. It's better than Victoria's Boys anyway which could be an alternative I suppose...

While I won't want to discourage another 2 players to join, I don't see, why an odd number of teams should be a problem? Dan, you settlet the rule:
3. Every team plays every other team, and the team with the most league points at the end (followed by PD as tie-breaker) wins overall.
So with 6 teams, there would be five games per team, with 7 six, with 8 seven. As far as I understand, this works out fine with any number of teams. Only the numbers of players obvious has to be even?

It still works with an odd number of teams, but if there are 7 for example, 1 team will always be sitting out of each round. If rounds take a week or more to organise matches (which is likely since we're now talking about 4 people rather than just 2) then it could be a pretty boring wait for the team that has to sit out each time...

Ah, OK. I somehow read over, that you want to split this in rounds. I thought, it would be just like the group stage of Leagues and WC, where everybody arrange the games on their own.

The reason for the rounds is so that we can vary the expansions i.e. Round 1: Inns & Cathedrals + Traders & Builders + Mage & Witch, Round 2: Abbey & Mayor + The Tower + Cathars. Something like this anyway. If we do it in the same way as the other expansion leagues have been it would be very difficult to vary the expansions...

Ak, OK, that makes sense. And it would probably not even be fair, if every team has to skip an expansion combo, the others have. Especially, if some teams have to skip a set, they would be particularly good in, and others get one to skip, which they don't feel good in.

EDIT: A fix for that might be, that every team is drawn for a round as a "replacement opponent", so they play actually 2 games of this setup, but only one of them (and it is of course predetermined, which one) counts for them, the other one just for the "odd couple". But let's wait and see, maybe there will be an 8th team signing in, that would be the best solution.
