That bit I know. It's the key to the cipher that I'm struggling with. It does not appear to be all that logical (to me anyway). I might try and solve the cipher, like Challa, and try and retro fit the key to the cipher back to the puzzle to try and understand how you're supposed to find out the key in the first place.

My problem is the logic of how to find the key from the puzzle. It makes absolutely no sense to me. Hoping for a nudge in the right direction...

No worries Scott.

Just started this tonight. Done the word search (almost  ;) ). I'm not a member of any Masonic group but, luckily, I do keep pigs. I like to keep them safe and secure; all fenced in. Can't figure out the four letter word yet though...

Edit: Ahhhh, got the word. Getting there slowly... just need the key to open the door ;)

Another edit: And that's my problem... I can't find a logical way to open the door :(

General / Re: What is your number 2?
« on: May 16, 2022, 11:19:09 AM »
Well, you can assume that Carc is my number 1 and I'm glad it's just an assumption. It's a good game, sure, but nowhere near the top spot. To be fair, I haven't played the game in years and my go-to Carc game would be Ark of the Covenant anyway (it's the best vanilla version out there). So, assuming that Carc is my number 1, what is my number 2 (and 3 for good measure).
Currently, my number 2 would be Railways of the World, and my number 3 is Wingspan.
That said, my favourites are always in a state of flux and change fairly frequently, like many of us I assume ;)

I was also a KS backer of Brew Crafters and in fact it has been my most delayed game of all that I've backed. However, in my opinion, Brew Crafters is a smashing worker placement game. It takes its heritage from Agricola, but is less punishing. Bear in mind that we only ever play the 'Family' version of Agricola (without the cards), which we feel is the superior version because we like completely open information. That is reflected in Brew Crafters, where everything is known by all from the start. I also prefer the brewing theme over the farming theme.

My daughter's (20) favourite game is Agricola, but after playing Brew Crafters, she now requests that over Agricola.

You need to get on a 'plane, fly back to Arizona, pick up your copy, fly back to NZ and get it to the table!

Don't follow much TV, but I have been watching Gotham and Game of Thrones.

My favourite TV series of all time was Hustle.

Other Games / Caverna mini-expansion - help needed
« on: June 20, 2015, 02:16:04 PM »
I am trying to get hold of Game Trade Magazine number 176. The trouble is that it appears to be sold only in the US and not available for shipping to the UK.

I particularly want the mini-expansions included within the magazine (Caverna/Sheriff of Nottingham). I'm not too bothered about the magazine.

Is there someone from the US who would help me get my hands on a copy by buying within the US and shipping the expansions over to me? Please drop me a PM if you would be willing to help :)

I have been playing the excellent Brew Crafters quite a bit recently. On Wednesday our group is going to give Russian Railroads a go and then at our next months session I think Le Havre is going to hit the table for the first time.

Anything Else / Re: Merry Christmas and a good new Car year

It's Christmas Eve and for the first time in about 4 years, at the request of my 19 year old daughter, Carcassonne has once again hit the table. We are currently teaching my 9 year old daughter how to play. Just playing the basic game for now; we'll see how she gets on.

Have a blessed Christmas and a fantastic New Year.

Other Games / Re: Stone Age

I think Stone Age is a wonderful example of a physical board game. One of the best worker placement games available. However, I prefer the game without the Style is the Goal expansion, although the expansion is still very good. Well worth the small amount of time it takes to learn.

General / Re: Ark of the Covenant availability

There is a CAR for the Ark of the Covenant here: https://elrestaurador.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/03-el-arca-de-la-alianza.pdf

Parents gave us as New Year's present our first serious board game - Monopoly. All stuff and rules were in English, but we didn't know a word in English! So, we invented our own rules, all hotels were meeples, rent for visiting states (real estates were USA states) was their mortgage value (half a price!), etc.

This is amazing! I bet you created a better game than the real monopoly!

Thanks for the link, jungleboy! This is exactly what I need! :(y)

The CAR for the AotC was compiled by me for CarcassonneCentral and is available in the downloads section on this very site!

It's a great version of Carcassonne and, in my opinion, it is by far the best version of 'vanilla' Carcassonne.
