1st match played in the group.

I took an early lead and held it throughout, grabbing as many trade tokens as I could.

What time difference to we have between New Zealand and UK?  Maybe we can work out the best time to play each other?

regards Halfling

I got wiped out on the trade goods but I managed to trap enough meeples and share the larger farm with my meeple to eek out the victory.  It was an intense game and very fun.   Thank you Halfling!  Well played!

I must learn how to complete cities!

You already know how to complete them, you completed most of mine for the trade goods!!  :o

AndrewtheAmbo 264 : Chuck 181

First game down, and it all came down to a big city that Chuck regrets not closing off. I needed a CFRX tile to close it for probably half the game, and eventually got it, with a huge swag of city poits, and also trade goods.
Aftre completing it, Chuck did mention he had thought of enclosing that tile to limit my options. Chuck, I would have, as it was quite easy to do.

Other than that, we had a good battle for farms, although I did make a mistake that did allow Chuck to draw on the main farm.

Good game, thanks Chuck.

Game 2

AndrewtheAmbo 249 : Halfling 208

We both felt we were behind in this game, although by midway, I was starting to think it was pretty even.
Halfling was aggresive with his trapping, and I was trying to gloom into his cities. I felt whenever I would start to do a trap, he would get the next tile to prevent it.
Looked like the game would come down to a big city with lots of good. I got the tile to close it, but with less than 30 odd  tiles to go, thought I would forsake the goods as it trapped his meeples and only one of mine. I thought it was the last CCCR, but he got one 10 tiles later.
Meanwhile, with my mepple numbers, I was starting to concentrate of farms, and using my city/builder down the bottom to reduce the tiles he got. It worked, and I managed to neutralise his big farm and win the game.

After being outmanned in the cathedral city I was running to catch up for the rest of the game.  Closing a city to get points and tokens gave me hope but I was ultimately out farmed.  2 similar score losses on one night was hard to take.

Yeah, again I made too much mistakes. And letting Andrew trap my builder didn't help me any further....
I hope to gain a victory against either Mr. Numbers or zone 2.

Good game between AndrewtheAmbo and I.  I managed to draw the tiles I need to prevent AndrewtheAmbo from sabotaging the big cathedral city, ensuring my victory.  Using my megameeple to equalize the large farm at the end just added padding to the win.

Thanks for the great game AndrewtheAmbo, and thanks for hosting!!!!

This always felt like a game I was going to loose. It was just how much by. At one stage near the end I had ownership of the main farm, but then Joe suck back in again.

3 down, 2 to go.

I knew that a 50% chance I would get that tile when I laid the tile before and placed the mega meeple.

Overall it was a strange game to win as I had 2 meeples trapped early in the crook of the river and I assumed from this point on that I'd had it and that was it for the competition.  A Cathedral city (nice cheese!) allowed me to hope and somehow I kept ahead in the scoring until only a couple of tiles from the end.  I think we were level before the final tile and that was the one from the base game that I believed remained and I snuck the win.

Zone2 tried to make it difficult for me to complete cities on many occasions and I was fortunate to constant draw the tile that allowed the cities to be completed or continued and extended.

A lot of trapping and some lucky draws (60-points cathedral city) made this game in my favor.

Quite fast and enjoyable game, we were pretty even throughout the game, only near the end, thanks to Halfling's blocked big guy+builder (meantime, my builder was working hard) and lack of yellow followers I was able to win this game.

If nothing goes wrong, the last game is scheduled to this evening. JoeSesquipedalian already qualified to the QF, but we with zone2 should play for another spot. Zone2 must win, but I must not to lose by more than 5 points.

MrNumbers vs. zone2
233:260

The most interesting game for me in this World Cup. Game started quickly and soon our builders became stuck: mine - forever, zone2 needed crrf tile. Zone2 quickly overtook leadership and I was forced to try to catch up. In the middle of the game the huge city became to grow, with my big and normal followers vs. zone2's two normal followers. I understood that this is my only chance to win, and I started to finish it. Zone2 tried to prolong it's building at every opportunity and in one moment even created a crff hole. With about 16 tiles left in the bag I needed 4 tiles to close the city. Then 3 tiles came one by one - ccff (splitter), cfff and crff! So I needed only cxxx tile to close it! Next tile drawn by zone2 was cccf (splitter). After 2 minutes of thinking zone2 decided to close my city! I received 90 (!) points and zone2 guaranteed all trade goods. The funniest thing in all this - cxxx tile never came to me till the rest of the game!
Before last tile came to zone2, he just was one point ahead of me (if we count all trade goods and fields), and if any tile, other than he actually received, came to him, it would be very difficult to find a spot with at least 5 points that he needed to overtake me. But last tile was all-game-waited crrf (with blue number 1 on it). So zone2 completed his city and additionally took 8-points road. As a result, zone2 qualified to knock-out stage, but I am finished 3rd and didn't qualify to QF second year straight.
