Hi all,

Cheers!

Hi all!

For those interested in the rules for The Tollkeepers, you can check its WICA page:

http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Tollkeepers (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Tollkeepers)

I will update the graphics as soon as the rules in PDF format are available.  ???

Tomorrow I will update the Reference pages: Game Reference, Order of Play and Scoring pages.

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers!

This may be a fault of the rules themselves and not you specifically but I wanted to highlight a clarity issue with the rules. The rules state that if you raise a toll then you get points for gardens, highwaymen, sheds, and groups of travelers. However the rules do not define what a shed is. I looked all over the wiki until I remembered to look at the rules for the Markets at Leipzig and in this section ( http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Markets_of_Leipzig#cite_ref-9 ) they sort of better define what a shed is. It was there and then that I was able to infer what is meant by the broad term “shed.”

With more expansions taking advantage of these new CC2 exclusive icons perhaps the icons should be better defined. Also for this new expansion you should probably highlight the incompatibilities when using this expansion with the CC1 artwork like you did for the Markets at Leipzig expansion.

Hi DaFees!

Thank you for your feedback. I included a note regarding using sheds instead of stables to be consistent with Markets of Leipzig, but I can see it will be better to include the definition in the clarifications, as it is not a concept established by the base game either. I assumed the scoring example would serve to explain what a shed was, but I must admit you have to read thoughroughly the rules to find this reference and make the connection in your mind.

The additional use for these features can be seen an incompatibility with C1. However, these rules can be adpated to C1 if we take into account the small houses you can find in some fields. This may serve as a house rule. I will include a note on this matter too in The Toolkeepers and in Markets of Leipzig.

+1 merit from me.

Cheers!

HiG released a revised version of the Tollkeepers rules available here at Cundco.de:

https://cundco.de/media/pdf/8e/87/6b/neue-Zollner-Spielregel-uberarbeitet-23-01-2020.pdf (https://cundco.de/media/pdf/8e/87/6b/neue-Zollner-Spielregel-uberarbeitet-23-01-2020.pdf)

The issue affected the scoring examples, where the tile with the tollhouse token showed a second group of travellers not taken into account during scoring. This issue was pointed out by one visitor at WICA and I passed it on to Cundco.de on January 9th 2020.

While the issue was handled by HiG I removed the extra group of traveller at the WICA page. Now they are back with the right scoring. You can find the updated version at WICA here:

I too would like some clarification on the rules re raising the tolls. Both tolls mention highwaymen and the pictorial examples highlight the Robin Hood-like illustrations. However if a road had more than one player's meeple on, would they also count as highwaymen in the toll points scoring?

Hi foghorn184,

Congrats for your first post. Hope you have a good time at the forum. ;D

The tollhouse scoring only takes into account the features on the tiles: groups of travelers, farmhouses, gardens, highwaymen groups by the road and sheds (cowsheds, pigsty and donkey stables). Meeples are not considered no matter how many there are on a road.

You can visit the annotated rules here and check the features taken into consideration:

Cheers!

Hi Meepledrone and thanks for the swift reply.
I don't want to seem pedantic, but where in the rules does it say that "The tollhouse scoring only takes into account the features on the tiles"?
thanks

Hi there!

No problem. This is the conclusion from reading the rules and scanning the scoring examples. My experience is that, due to the lack of space in the rules, HiG uses the examples to explain some key details they may have omitted in the written text.

In this example, you can see: 2 traveller groups and a farmhouse. The meeple (a C2 highwayman or C1 thief) is not considered in the scoring:

* In this example the tollhouse scored for two groups of travelers and a farm house. The meeple on the road is ignored completely:

Example - Raising toll 1: Green completes the road with the land tile in the bottom right corner. You get 7 points from your tollhouse (2 times 3 for the groups of travellers and 1 for the farmhouse). Having collected a toll from a group of travellers, you change the value of your tollhouse to 2.
Green gets 4 points for their road as usual.

* In this other example, the tollhouse scores for two groups of highwaymen (hidden behind a bush) and one shed (a pigsty).
Example - Raising toll 2: In a later turn, you complete a road and you get 6 points for your tollhouse (2 times 2 for the highwaymen and 2 for the shed). You don't change the value of your tollhouse because there was no group of travelers.

You can see the annotated tules here:

Cheers!

The tollhouse still receives points for those just completed road(s)?

A tollhouse will score points (if any) for any road completed ending at the village the tollhouse is placed on.
