Title: How should the Monk be represented?
Post by: Decar on August 06, 2016, 07:28:12 AM
Meeplesource are starting their Kickstarter very soon.  There's still time to vote. (http://www.meeplesource.com/vote)

They have been kind enough to create Carcassonne Central a mascot (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2841.0); thus far we've voted on a theme and determined how the knight and farmer will be represented.

The question now is:

How will the Monk be represented?

I had to think very carefully about this one.  If a habit or tonsure is chosen I think, either: It will not be clearly monk related; or the final design will look like a Monk holding a shield and a pitchfork (the other two elements we've chosen), rather than a reasonable blend of the 4-follower classes.

I've voted for the wooden-cross, which could be worn around the neck with rosary beads, or around the waist.

Other suggestions welcome as always.  Bonus points if you happen to know the formal name of a wooden-cross.

I think the cross should be subtle enough that you notice it (and know why it's there) but without taking over the entire persona of the meeple. It would be much more difficult to strike this balance with several of the other artifacts, so I voted for the cross.

The difficulty is going to be making sure the cross is obvious enough as the meeple will have a shield in one hand and a pitchfork in the other. If this was an actual person, it's easy to imagine that the cross would fall behind the shield and so wouldn't be easily identifiable.
