News and Events / Spiel ‘22 tile at Cundco this Friday (the 18th)?
« on: November 14, 2022, 04:50:14 PM »
The other day HiG made a post on IG ( https://www.instagram.com/p/CkvzgwHKTKc/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= ) speaking about scammers trying to profit off of the Ukraine map and tile. In this post the very last line (easily missed) says, “On November 18th you will get the chance to get a special tile from our official site”

In fairness, it does only say “special tile” but what else could be special but the Spiel ‘22 tile?

The Marketplace / Good price for the catapult expansion?
« on: August 05, 2022, 10:23:53 PM »
I’m attending my first Gen Con ever and I learned they have a consignment store and within that consignment store I found a used copy of the catapult expansion for $75 down $65, depending on which day I wait to buy it (a risk). The paperwork for this specific copy states it is missing 1 token but no way to verify which token this is. Is this a good deal?

News and Events / World Series of Board Gaming
« on: October 29, 2021, 11:14:05 AM »
I may personally be late to the table on this one but I just learned today of an event taking place in 2022 called the World Series of Board Gaming. It is a multi day event featuring 16 qualifier games where players will compete to be the best at a given game with the 16 ultimate winners going on to compete in a mystery semi finals and mystery finals all to determine who is the ultimate board gamer.

This event is being held in Las Vegas next year with a $250 entry fee per game (yes you could compete in all 16 games if you were so inclined) with room, etc. costing extra. This event is partly sponsored by the Dice Tower. The 16 games are

Carcassonne (obviously)
Catan
Ticket to Ride
Splendor
7 Wonders
Wingspan
Brass: Birmingham
Blood Rage
Acquire
Azul
Ra
Gaia Project
Great Western Trail
Terraforming Mars
Dominant Species: Marine
Dune Imperium

You can get all the details here, https://www.wsbgchampionship.com/ , and registration apparently goes live next month (so this Monday?). That said, do you have what it takes to be the best board gamer in the world?

General / That feeling when you find the hard to find
« on: February 08, 2021, 06:16:51 PM »
About 5 to 6 years ago I started collecting Carcassonne. It started with the base game and some of the expansions. From there I learned of the mini expansions and realized quickly they were becoming hard to find so I got lucky when I found local online store, Miniature Market was selling all 6. From there I eventually learned about Cundco and this forum.

In that time I missed out on the Big Box 5, the first 4 Spiel tiles and all the old mini expansions like the tunnels, the plague and all the other rare ones. I know that if I really wanted those things I could spend a pretty penny on eBay for them but I’ve had no real interest in paying the eBay premiums up to this point. Well over the weekend I lucked out when I found a user on BGG was auctioning off their copy of BB5 in really great condition. I tossed a bid in and then anxiously waited. In the end I finally got my hands on a copy of BB5 for $45 + shipping.

I am happy with the price I paid and I’ll be even happier when it arrives. This will finally get me the Wheel of Fortune and the River III.

So as to foster a little discussion / reminiscing feel free to share any stories of you getting your hands on something hard to find.  :yellow-meeple:

It is with a sad heart that I must report that the CodingMonkeys have lost the rights to publish Carcassonne on iOS and Mac. The Carcassonne app will be available until the 1st of March at which time it will be unavailable and replaced with Asmodee's implementation as currently found on Steam and Android. The CodingMonkeys have promised to keep servers up for at least 1 year and will keep them up even longer beyond that as budget permits. Also, in light of this situation they've gone ahead and put all theirs apps on sale for 50% off (not sure if this includes the in app purchases as well). You can read more about this sad news via their blog post here,

https://blog.codingmonkeys.de/posts/2020/01/18/farewell-carcassonne

I have played and enjoyed Asmodee's Steam implementation of Carcassonne but it couldn't measure up the incredible greatness that was the CodingMonkey's iOS implementation. I will hate to see this app pass on but I likely will pick up the Asmodee version when it is available.

I'm curious what all of you think? I can't imagine I'm the only one saddened by this news.

News and Events / Cundco Advent Season Sale 2019
« on: November 27, 2019, 01:56:26 AM »
Dear members,

THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Cundco has just quietly (at least quietly to me anyway) launched their advent season sale for 2019. Per usual you can get the Spiel 2019 promo tile with a minimum 20 Euro purchase. In addition to that they are offering what is known as the Carcassonne Tinbox where for 24.99 Euros you get a special classic art style tin filled with your choice of 3 mini-expansions, 3 mini tuckboxes for said mini-expansions, and 1 set of 5 differently colored meeple candles. As far as I can tell this is it as far as new stuff goes!

I've made sure to already place my order, but be sure to place your order before the Spiel tiles are gone!  :yellow-meeple:

P.S. despite the 2018 appearing in the link above it is the correct link so do not be fooled or concerned.  ;)

General / Alt Color Ringmasters?
« on: October 29, 2018, 06:26:16 AM »
Quick question that hopefully someone can answer.

Does anyone know yet if Ringmasters are available in the wood alternate colors yet? I tried a search on this forum and could only find posts as recent as April saying not yet. At the very least I'd like to get a gray Ringmaster but I'd also be curious if the Ringmaster is finally included with the wood alternate color sets yet? I know they have Ringmasters in the transparency sets but I'm not interested in those at the moment.

Official Rules / The Ferries and the School interaction questions
« on: September 30, 2017, 08:48:12 PM »
I have a couple questions about the Ferries and the School and how the interact.

If one of the roads leading out from the School has a Ferries tile attached to it and in doing so a ferry is placed so that the road continues. I assume if on a subsequent turn if the ferry is moved so that the road leading out of the School is now closed / completed that it, possibly, scores and then the person who completed it gets the School teacher?

What happens if this closed road is later re-opened? Could it be closed again and the teacher be taken by whomever closed it?

What has me curious is that the rules DO say that once all 6 roads are closed the teacher will no longer go to any of the players.

So what happens if after all 6 roads are completed / closed one of them is re-opened due to a shift in ferry placement? If that re-opened road is again closed could the teacher then be claimed?

Asmodee Digital just announced via their Facebook page that they are working on a new digital version of Carcassonne for Android & Steam (PC). The accompanying image suggests it will be styled in the new style artwork with an added sense of 3D to the tiles. Currently Asmodee is taking sign ups for the upcoming beta test of the game.

You can see the original post here (I think), https://www.facebook.com/AsmodeeDigital/photos/a.955810484442115.1073741829.941343545888809/1465970130092812/?type=3

You can get instructions on how to sign up for the beta here, http://forums.asmodee.net/topic/2-how-to-apply/

For me personally, I LOVE the iOS version of Carcassonne and so that's my barometer in regards to what I expect of this new Android & Steam version. Based on the single image in that Facebook post I'm about 50/50 at this point but to be fair Asmodee has been hitting it out of the park lately with their digital board game apps.

General / Couple of questions
« on: December 01, 2016, 09:55:09 PM »
Hello there,

I've been eyeing up a nice, fair-sized order from CundCo as a nice holiday present. I had a couple of questions though. I've only tonight discovered amazing users on the other forum have ported some of the new art expansions to the old art style. I found them available as individual jpgs for each tile and together as a "sheet" in a pdf file. First question is, does anyone have any good tips or suggestions for how to get the artwork onto blank tiles? Do I print directly on the tiles, print on paper and glue the paper on, print on sticker paper and sticker it on the tile, or something else? If printing, in any form, what kind of printer / print settings should I use. If printing, is it a printing a place like Staples or a local print shop could handle?

Last question, with this in mind, if I was to get the gardens / abbot mini expansion in the old art style, other than buying a copy of CCII, where else could I get the abbots in :red-meeple: :yellow-meeple: :green-meeple: :blue-meeple: :black1-meeple: and :gray-meeple:?

Reviews & Session Reports / Tough Loss on iOS Carcassonne
« on: March 27, 2015, 06:11:26 AM »
Hello all,

Been playing a lot of Carcassonne online via my iPad. Yes losing is never fun, especially when the tiles aren't drawing in your favor but nothing hurts more when you make a wrong move that ultimately costs you the game.

I'm including an image of the game right after I made my next to last move. Kudos to anyone who sees the move I should have made instead,  ;)  When games are close I'm usually quite adamant about my moves, making sure I get the most points possible, but this time I missed the right move.  :(

Official Rules / Couple of expansion rules questions!
« on: February 15, 2014, 11:20:23 PM »
Hello all,

Huge fan of the game. I've played the base+river with friends a few times before (which is what got me intially hooked). I own the iOS app and all available expansions for said app. I also just this week got my own copy of the base game (which includes the river) by ZMG plus the I&C and T&B expansions. I've played the iOS app (and thus my knowldge of the rules is largely based on how HiG does them) and java-based implementation known as jcloisterzone a lot and I've studied the CAR a lot as well. In addition I've also studied the official ZMG rules and I now have some concerns. My friends have no exposure to the expansions and I want to change that.

My concerns:

(First let's look at P&D, and I refer to ZMG's rules listed here, http://zmangames.com/rulebooks/Carcassonne_Exp3.pdf)

1. Where in the rules, even implicitly so, does it state that if I place a volcano tile that I can NOT place the fairy?

2. If the builder and pig are NOT followers how then do I argue they should be eaten by the dragon when the rules only say "Each time the dragon moves onto a tile with a follower, that follower is returned to its owner
