Title: Multi-Expansion Expansions
Post by: Whaleyland on September 25, 2018, 01:07:20 AM
A comment about the new Spiel DOCH! Expansion got me thinking: there are now a number of multi-expansion expansions that have been released for Carcassonne and I feel they should be listed somewhere. The qualifications for this are simple: any expansion in the same art style with a watermark shared by another expansion is a multi-expansion expansion.

Using this basic definition, we have:

The Corn Circles:

The Bonus Tiles:

The Monasteries:

The Spielbox Expansion:

The Spiel DOCH! Expansion:

The Hobby World Expansion:

Have you played any of these multi-expansion expansions? How have the different components interacted? Were there any obvious problems? Was there anything surprising? Share your stories!

The Halflings is troublesome for a number of reasons. Perhaps that is why I took it as my forum name!?

The fleas from The Plague is an example here. If 2 triangular Halfling tiles are placed together where a regular tile would normally be, should each warrant a flea or a single flea to cover both?

I guess you could also ask if a flea can go down a tunnel and reappear on the road at the other end and be connected to its original outbreak via the tunnel? Not actually tried as I don't have tunnels anymore.

I use the kloosters to replace original monasteries. Adding the German monasteries wouldn't make sense as there are no further monasteries to replace.

We have never played the Tunnel and the Plague, but it would be cool if the fleas could use the tunnel and appear somewhere very far away on the board.

The Plague can be played with small expansions, such as the Cult, with no problems.  It does not react well to larger expansions as it is too diluted.  Also, I don't recommend playing the Plague with anyone that hates house rules.  There are a lot of weird situations, such as Halfling mentioned, that aren't in the book.

Playing with both Monasteries is too many monasteries in my humble opinion.
