WTB expansion coloured meeple sets
« on: November 07, 2015, 05:26:51 AM »
I'm looking to expand my collection and get a full set of meeples in orange, white, brown & unpainted. Unfortunately, Cundco seem to have run out of stock so I was wondering if anybody knows if they're for sale elsewhere, or has any that they wouldn't mind selling.

I've noticed that Boardgame Extras have brown, orange & unpainted in stock, however their sets are missing the robbers, messengers, shepherds & abbots. Furthermore, when I have bought extra meeples from these guys before, there has been a noticeable difference in colour from the official parts.

Alternatively, does anybody know if the sets will come back into stock at cundco?

Thanks!

Great, they're out of stock? I just ordered a bunch of individual Orange meeples as well as a full set of White ones. I hope my order got through before they ran out!

Sure looks that way. I've emailed them to see if they're planning on restocking any time soon, just waiting to hear back from them.

I can't add much to this other than to say that I've never seen any Abbots on sale anywhere other than in the new edition Carc box (in basic colours: :black1-meeple: :blue-meeple: :green-meeple: :red-meeple: :yellow-meeple: ). Maybe someone else can confirm this, but I wouldn't hold out for the Abbot pieces when looking to expand your range of playing colours if I were you.

Good luck with your order whaleyland, I hope this doesn't hold it up any further.

To be honest, I don't have any original coloured abbots - yet - so I'm not too bothered about not finding any in the new colours. That said, the Cundco product states (with English translation) -

Quote
Ihr bekommt (you will receive):8 Meeple; 1 großen Meeple (Large meeple); 1 Schwein (pig), 1 Bürgermeister (Mayor), 1 Wagon; 1 Baumeister (Builder); 1 Gefolgsfrau (Henchman); 1 Räuber (Robber); 1 Gutshof (farm); 1 Schäfer (Shepherd) und 1 abt. (abbot).

I guess they could they could list whatever they wanted though, doesn't make much difference if the sets are out of stock.

"Gutshof" is called "barn" in English, although this is not the literal translation of the word. "Gutshof" is a term for the house of a rich farmer or noble man, who owns land for farming, more like an estate. "Barn" on the other hand would rather translate as "Scheune". But the pieces of wood look rather like a barn, so it is a fitting translation.

What really puzzles me is the translation of "Gefolgsfrau" as "Henchman". ??? The proper translation would be "female follower".

I figured barn was the literal translation, but female follower to henchman is a bit of a stretch! (I was using chrome's inbuilt translation service, for what it's worth)

My German's not great but I think Gefolgsfrau is a feudal word for liege-woman.
Traditionally a henchman is someone who looks after their retainer's horse.

So they're sort of similar enough to mean: a messenger.

Later Henchman came to mean a criminal follower.

I managed to, when ordering a full orange set from Cundco a while back, receive an orange abbot with my order! It's a shame they are out of stock with no immediate date set for when they shall restock

Very interesting, especially since we teach children that henchmen and highwaymen are both criminals (and everyone's thoughts of these somehow go back to Robin Hood!)

Meeple Source has them, though not complete sets and not all colors.  They have lots of other colors too and sets for different games too.

However, they won't stock in yellow, red, blue, green or black!

I have plenty of those official meeples from the old sets in the five basic colours and gray. Not sure if this helps but let me know if!

I also have a duplicate of abbot basic colours I believe.
