Preparation for UK Championships
« on: February 17, 2015, 07:56:16 AM »
Most of you already know that The UK Championships is on Sunday 31st May 2015, that's not long now!:

http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/game.php?id=BOR1097

I'm not entirely sure if I can make it yet; but I know I need as much practice as I can get, in order to beat the first round.

The first three rounds are usually 4-player games of the base 72-tile set.

The strategies for 4 player games are very different from two player games (which most championships do); I'd like to make it a regular thing, so I can get my skill level up in preparation.

If you're based in the UK and want some practice; maybe we can set a suitable time.

But, if you're not based in the UK; you're still very welcome to help us out, but the times may be slightly worse for you!

No doubt we can sort something out for everyone!

Happy 4-player Carcassonne!

Edit: Changed to Three Rounds not two...doh!

Great idea. I'm in!  :) :(y)

The first two rounds are usually 4-player games of the base 72-tile set.

Last year it was the first three rounds and it looks like it will be the same again this year. Points are awarded based on finishing position within these games as follows:

Winner4
Second2
Joint second1.5
Third1
Joint third0.5
Fourth/fifth0

The top 4 players then played 2 semi-finals and a final between them which were played head-to-head. Each of them had won at least 10 points from the first 3 rounds to get there, so it isn't unreasonable to expect that two wins and a second (or better) may be required again to reach the top 4. Unfortunately, this means that Carcassonne players in the UK must also be experts of the 4-player game as well as the 2-player game if they want to reach the world championships (a system so successful that our champion last year came 33rd out of 34  :()...

Looking forward to it!

Thanks guys; any particular days good for you?

Friday/Saturday/Sunday and Tuesday are my good days; but can do late Thursday at a push, if you wanted to tag it onto the end of the weekly's.

I think I can do pretty much any of those days. I hope to be available for this week's online game too, so I don't mind hanging around afterwards for a quick 4-player basegame if there are enough of us available...

I'm also up for 4-player base game practice so that I'm a bit better prepared the next time I stumble onto a random Carcassonne tournament!

Hi Dan, sorry been hectic been wanting to chase this up.  In theory, I should be good for just after 9 (sorry that's a little late).  If I'm free sooner I'll ping you!

All depends on whether you say scone to rhyme with gone or to rhyme with cone.

Also, cream on top of jam or jam on top of cream?

These things matter more than you can ever imagine to an Englishman. Well, to this Englishman anyway...

I would like to play but I won't be available until later - probably nearer 10.

Gone. But I suspect that's not the 'right' answer.

Also, cream on top of jam or jam on top of cream?

This is the first time I've ever pondered this, but on first thought I would say that jam on top of cream seems to make more sense.

Edit: On second thought, cream on top of jam. How can you spread your jam if there's cream in the way? There, I've hedged my bets and now I can't be wrong.

These things matter more than you can ever imagine to an Englishman. Well, to this Englishman anyway...

You're a weirdo.  :@

as long as you bring scones thats ok.

I should be good for 8.45; but can wait for 10 for a 4player woth rosco?
