In the final picture, what is the other version of Carcassonne with the yellow backs?
Über Stock und Stein, I imagine.

Thanks for sharing.  The rules look interesting!  I'm wondering about tile distribution with rebel, imperial & bounty symbols.  Are there twice as many rebel/imperial to bounty symbols?  Are there the same number meaning 5-player games are affected.  It looks like 5-player and 4-player non-team games are out.  Can't wait to give it a go.

Yes the yellow and orange backs are C:SnS - I have to say possibly there are my favourites - I'd forgotten about this one.  I'll have to wait until they're in my hands!

I don't know about the rules yet...

There is no "farmer" effect. What we particularly like about Carcassonne and the three spin offs that we own is that the winner is kind of unknown until the final scoring. Big farms can change the ranking on the scoreboard completely. With expansions like traders, goldmines, king & robber, etc. it even stays more exciting. But with this expansion, there is no surprise effect at the end and the winner will be known well before. (And yes, I know that experienced players know the winner also with that surprise effect, surely I do. But for less experienced players, the winner is quite often known only after the final scoring).

Additionally, I don't see any real value in the different factions. They only play a role in deciding how many dice one can roll. They would have more value if the factions would only give additional points to the players that actually belong to that faction.

But I do like the fact that battles are fought right away. In this variant it is nearly impossible to cooperate against a mutual enemy  :) I believe players will be trying to close their features as quickly as possible since you can lose everything fairly quickly to the next player challenging you.

Anyhow, looking forward to play it soon  :)

Except for the faction markers, the battle rules can totally be fan varianted into the main rules, no problems at all. All players have 5 Followers + 1 Big Follower and whenever two players are on the same feature, it's fight time! This would actually work really well with the Red pennants fan expansion that was made a long time ago. Just have two factions with the blue and red pennants equally divided.

Not for sale in North America due to licensing  :(

Hope it is possible and worth ordering from EU.

That is what was said during the BGG live feed yesterday from Essen. It seemed quite definitive as they were showing an unboxing. They spent about 5 minutes with the copy and mentioned the licensing issues a few times. Because of the live feed I can't reference the video.

BGG will follow up Spiel with a series of videos of each game and hopefully will include that mini feature. From what I could see the production looked quite good but again it was not in-depth at all. The feature was with Eric Martin and BGG staff, no one from Hans I'm Glück was present.

As a follow up, you can access some of the BGG – Spiel live-stream footage here. http://livestream.com/boardgamegeektv

But not the footage I mentioned. Looks like the piece I mentioned was on day two. Sadly, near the end of today’s session, Aldie mentions, that all of the day 2 feed was lost by the source but all was recorded, so we will have to wait and hope for a repeat of the session.

Hopefully someone at Essen Spiel can shed more light.

On separate note, check out the game, Cornwall - Schmidt Spiele and designed by Johannes Schmidauer-König at 3:24:09, day ONE.

It looks to be very Carc like, if on a lighter side. Regardless I was intrigued. The tiles are larger tri-hex shaped.

Sorry had to make a few edits as I was having problem with the post. Another edit :( sorry it was late

Carcassonne: Star Wars must be denied US market access because of Fantasy Flight. I believe Fantasy Flight owns exclusive rights to all Star Wars-themed board games unfortunately. It's an annoying situation but is extremely common in US copyright law right now.

Does that mean it would be illegal for someone in the EU to buy it and send it to someone in the US? How can that be controlled?

You'll be marked as a smuggler. Bounty hunters will come looking for you and you'll end up being frozen in carbonite.  We'll call you DanSolo from now on ;)

Good. I could do with a rest for a bit. The worst punishment would be being called DanSolo!

But seriously, do they maintain a list of known boardgamers and come round their houses checking to see what games they have from time to time?

I think it was the license to sell the game in the US, actually owning it isn't illegal.  No doubt US players can buy from Cundco and other European outlets; alternatively I'm happy to order/post any copies anywhere if it means someone gets a copy they want.

Thanks Decar, might take you up on that offer  :)
