Title: Possible forum interruptions
Post by: gantry on July 03, 2013, 04:45:34 PM
The switchover to the new servers is in progress today. Although it should go smoothly, be aware that this could cause some very brief disruptions over the next day or two. We have eyes on the switchover so no need to contact anyone, thanks everyone!

CarcC is moving to a new server.

That is the reason, why the forum is slowly.
Also members are having problems to come online because of the error message:
"The webpage cannot be found".

The switchover happened today; nothing actually happened last week. Hopefully today was the last of the downtime.

The special letters are wrong since the switchover from CarcC:

Accents and board languages (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=14.0)

When I like to post something with the German special letters, than all the rest from a post get lost.
I wrote yesterday a PM to Gantry, but all the information was gone. He has become only the half of my PM what I have written...

So that means, I can't show you the letters, because the forum doesn't accept this.

I'll take a look at this later today. Right before I go to work is not the best time to mess around with things. ;)

The links don't work to CarcF.

But this is new. Yesterday the links were working...

example:
this is the correct posted link:
http://maik63.bplaced.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=314

this is what the change is during the internet (in bold):

http://maik63.bplaced.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=314

Why does the internet change the link when I click at the correct link?

Hi,

the forum-software changed the links and the special characters :-[

I am not sure why this is, but indeed I can confirm that on my computer it changes them also. Have you recently changed any of your Carc Central language settings in your profile?

I didn't changed anything in my profile.

The most problem we have:
1. the links to CarcF doesn't work
2. the member HiG (I can't write the complete name) is wrong, because of the not working Umlaute. HiG can't come online here
3. the lost of the rest from a new posting after you use an Umlaut...
4. the lost of the rest from a new PM after you use an Umlaut...
5. all the special symbols doesn't work - not only the German Umlaute.

The next problem:
Before the swichover from CarcC I've got an email if someone send me a PM.
Now I have no emails - why?

I noticed some errors in the log file about that.

Am working on the umlaute issue, will take a few days
it should have no effect on the board continuing to function

One item to remember: please if you can, avoid using characters with accent marks in post titles.

There is good news and bad news. The good news is that the issue is probably fixable. The bad news is that it will likely take a very long time, incur some forum down time, and as well any of the data with the gibberish characters will be removed.

That's a bit of shame, maybe its best to hold off causing any serious downtime for the time being if you can help it. The momentum here has picked up as of late=)

Again a test for the Umlaute: ss, Ae, Oe, Ue, :

In the preview there are Umlaute, but with "Save" they are gone.

Great to see we are back up again. You volunteers do a great job maintaining the site in your own time. Thanks.

If you see that this CarcassonneCentral forum is not online, but you like to know what happens or other information.

We have at the Carcassonne-Forum (CarcF) a thread about the news from CarcassonneCentral (CarcC).

Here is the link (please open a new side in your browser and copy the link into the new side - I say the umlaut-monster doesn't like the direct link from here at CarcC to CarcF)

in "Aktuelles-News" you find CarcassonneCentral Forum
http://carcassonne-forum.de/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=100 (http://carcassonne-forum.de/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=100)

The umlaute issue is still unresolved, but another issue appeared today where some posts and info are missing. This should not have happened, there was an issue with the main SAN earlier and it successfully did a failover to the backup SAN (put simply, hard disks). There should not have been any data loss whatsoever, we have a support ticket open with them to see what went wrong.
