game counter tray
« on: September 09, 2015, 06:43:32 AM »
While Carcassonne does not use a lot of tokens, I find that with the trade goods tokens , ferries and gold bars that handling the smaller items can be a clumsy job.

My fingers find it difficult trying to get the smaller items out of straight sided  containers.

I am considering buying some form of game counter tray and just wondered what anyone else was using.

Something like this comes to mind from the game Kalah:

We always use these 9 cm wide and 4 cm high wooden trays when we play games of Carcassonne. And I usually keep all my meeples and loose parts in them.

Thanks for the responses, I will probably try and get a Chessex or UGG Counter tray though I would prefer a more sturdy material.  The Chessex tray has flat sloping sides to make it easier to slide tokens out - we will see how that works out.   :-\

My own expansions do rely rather heavily on tokens to facilitate end game scoring.   :'(

You might want to send Basically Wooden a description of what you're after.  They've been awesome discussing the Tile boxes and already have some counter top-trays, maybe something similar could be designed to replace it.

Disregard this option. Just got confirmation that minimum quantity order is 1000 pieces.  :-\

What about this one. They customize the tray for you. Albeit they seem to focus on plastic inlay for the boxes, I think it's worthy a look.

Update: You could maybe make smaller boxes with inlay for each colour and then have these boxes fit into a larger box, so each player takes one and is ready to play.
