Official Statement Of The Dutch Carcassonne Publisher
« on: January 07, 2016, 10:51:06 AM »
Today the news came that the new style will also appear in Holland. That's no big news, but they also published that any future expansions will only appear in the new 2.0 style.

One portion of it translated via Google:

Because the rear edges of the tiles remain the same, the new version with the old editions of Carcassonne can be combined.

This silly pretence has been repeated by all publishers and is perhaps the thing that annoys me the most about the whole Carcassonne II saga.

In the commands is officially stated that worldwide there will be no reprints at all.
999 games will now slowly sell all the products untill they got no more..

Sorry to say people.. but i refuse to buy this entire game over again..

Can't we send a complain in the name of carcassonne central community to HiG?

I mean.. why didn't we? Most people were against it?

I don't think you could send something in the name of the community if it's not a unanimous opinion. There are some people who like 2.0 or who don't mind either way, and some new fans who only know 2.0. Anyway, let's find out what the community really thinks - I just created a poll about Carcassonne II.

Even if we could, I don't think there would be a lot of point. Too much time and money will already have gone into something like this and they're not going to throw all that away purely for the sake of 200 people who preferred the old artwork. They're probably able to sell Carc 2.0 to enough people who wouldn't have bought classic Carc as to negate this within a few days anyway...

I think that if HIG wanted to test the water with CARC 2, they would have done prior to massive production runs and a worldwide release.  They did not.  I personally think that it was a mistake to upset their current fan base without consulting them but they are a commercial concern and as such they must do what there marketing people tell them will make more money.  Updated graphics and design can often do that.

What may be worthwhile, is to request that they do a limited production of any new expansions in the old art, or at least allow us to reproduce the new tiles with the old art in some way.  Of course they must make their money on this so i am not sure how they could do so.  Have a single use download code inside the expansion box to download the old graphics in high res?  i dont know but it may be worth a conversation.
Just lay the damn tile!

+1 to this idea. A print and play link for old artwork expansion tiles is a great idea, provided of course that they can find someone to do the designs if DM is no longer on board. People can then print the old artwork and stick it over the new artwork tiles if they so wish.

That's not a bad idea... although I doubt they would, considering they'd have to pay fees to both the new and old artists -- once again, a significant cost for them relative to the (perhaps) few people who would care. But I agree it's worth a conversation. And I like the idea of the poll and perhaps something like a petition, or letter signed by as many fans as possible.
