Can anyone tell me what those 2 extreme large guys are doing in the shrubbery near the cherry tree?  Are those John Cleese & Terry Jones starring in Monty Python and the Holy Grail or is that the Knights who say "Ni"??

Can't remember they ever did it like this. (Plague and the tunnel were smaller)

Actually, The Plague was the same size: 6 tiles + 24 tokens.
My stuff: The Caverns of Carcassonne | Wheel of Fortune versions | True North (wind roses) | Icon facelifts | Converting CII to CI | Signposts & the Château | The Vault | Riverboats & the Whirlpool | trade list

Back on the topic of interactions with other expansions, it seems to me there is a question with Leipzig (and it's kind of sad that they apparently already forgot that their immediately previous mini-expansion created a new road dynamic that should have been considered). Namely, are the roads that are ended by fruit trees still considered "connected" for the purposes of Leipzig?

Thematically I'm inclined to say no: other embellishments that end roads (villages and wooded areas) are still conceptually passable; but these giant trees are not passable; they completely block the road. But something tells me that's not the answer the publisher would give us, if they were inclined to answer such questions.

This adds more weight to the idea that putting the trees right in the middle of the road was not a good idea. Why not just have a normal junction and the tree(s) nearby? Why create new uncertainties, for no real reason? My questions are rhetorical, but nevertheless I suspect whaleyland has the answer: lazy design for a quick marketing piece.

A giant tree blocking two roads and separating two fields is as unfeasible as a crop circle, house, bazaar, watchtower or circus animal from previous offerings. To name but a few. It looks an interesting game mechanic and it is more tiles for us New Carc converts.

Bring it on.

Are quinces popular in Europe, because I don't think I've ever eaten one. They definitely aren't very popular in the US. I might have to see if I can get one in the produce department of my local supermarket, just to say I've eaten all of the fruit from the Öbstbaume expansion.  :P

They are usually made into quince jelly.  it is a very very hard fruit which is not good when eaten raw.  When raw the taste is good but the texture  and hardness  is not.

It's not as popular as in once was....much like the poor Medlar.

My Uncle once harvested his Quince tree and made about 80 pots of Quince Jam....it was Quince for days...!

After some more thought and some research in the CAR 7.4, I'd like to offer the following for consideration.

First, Carc-I wagons cannot drive through fruit trees. This is a result of the HiG 5/2013 ruling footnoted on CAR page 62:

172 The wagon cannot drive through any feature to get to another feature. Features are any aspect of the tile that can be claimed by a follower or that triggers a function, including cloisters, bazaars, crop circles, fairs, etc.

A fruit tree certainly "triggers a function," and thus it would be a feature that blocks wagon movement.

And second, this ruling also seems to be the best (only?) candidate we have available for deriving a general principle that could define whether two roads are "connected" to each other for purposes of real or conceptual movement. With that in mind, it is probably a good and appropriate way to consistently determine what roads are and are not considered connected for purposes of Leipzig. If there's an intervening city, cloister, circus, bazaar, tower foundation, fruit tree, etc. — any feature — then the wagon can't pass through and (by extension) followers also can't go to Leipzig.

While the Leipzig rules don't say this explicitly, the only example they give of two roads being connected is through a village (a "crossing" or "junction" in Carc I terminology). Since the only example given is a non-feature, that seems to more or less confirm that features would in fact break the chain. This to me seems simple, logical, and easy to apply.

I'm looking forward to this one, sounds like a fun little expansion!

It seems a shame though that most of the new content for CII is in the promotional expansions (Leipzig is one of my favourite mini-expansions, on par with the plague, ferries and the siege variations).

I want to say thank you to you all  :)  I have just ordered this mini expansion, which I wouldn't have known about if it wasn't for this forum.  I know I don't join in with commenting, but I do very much appreciate reading all that you post.   :pink-meeple:
