General / game counter tray
« on: September 09, 2015, 06:43:32 AM »
While Carcassonne does not use a lot of tokens, I find that with the trade goods tokens , ferries and gold bars that handling the smaller items can be a clumsy job.

My fingers find it difficult trying to get the smaller items out of straight sided  containers.

I am considering buying some form of game counter tray and just wondered what anyone else was using.

What Dan means is to play as a one player game trying to get the highest score you can.  Carcassonne Solitaire!

thanks I am trying that  -  I just assumed that the game would require miultiple players  -  DOH!

Never occured to me to try it with multiple local players - just had a quick go and it looks promising -  thanks    :(y) :(y)

I must confess that I do not play JCloister as often as I would like to.

To be honest once the game starts to attempt to get it's followers onto one of my cities, my eyes just glaze over and I lose interest.

Is there a setting where the game will just focus on making the best use of it's own tiles and leave me alone to make the best of mine.

As an older player just looking to pass the time in a relaxing manner this would appeal to me.   :)

Wow, what women you guys have. Poor you.  :'(

Then again, I am not married, but I did have a family life ages ago and we set ground rules from day one before moving in. Even today in this household we have rules, sadly most of them never followed by other. I feel like I am the wife because I love shopping and I can't stand the house not being clean.  O:-)

Actually my wife has never said a word about my Carcassonne,  I just know that I did not really need that third copy of Abbey and Mayor or that second Big Box 5 to go along with my Big Box 2.   I have always had a thing about wanting spare parts and backup copies.   With HiG discontinuing the original artwork and the stuff selling out at all the local (and not so local) stores it seems to have gotten a little out of hand.

Some people cannot resist picking up kittens and puppies, I guess I feel the same way about that chubby little Mayor on the front of the box.   ::)

I am sorry but this is a really bad idea.

Everyone should know that the principle use of an empty Carcassonne big box is to use it to hide all of the other Carcassonne box base games and expansions that you have purchased.

That way it is not obvious to the rest of your family just how many copies of the game you have spent good money on.    8)

Unless you man up and seize control of your own personal hobby. "Woman! My expansion costs 10 Euro, how much does your cheapest pair of shoes cost?" Instant win.

Start going down that path and you will find another use for the Carcasonne Big Box  - sleeping in it   :@

I was very pleased that I managed to get the phantoms and some extra river tiles and the wind rose from Carcassonne shoppe while it was still in business.

I don't mean to criticize what others buy, sometime I post just to try to keep the conversation moving along  - the forum doesn't seem quite to active as it was towards the end of last year when the posts seemed to fly back and forth every few minutes.

These expansions are getting ridiculous.  At this point, they're out of good ideas and trying to milk you out of your money.

I think my collection is complete with the German castles. Adios!

I have to agree that Duncan90 does have a point.

With the original format base game and all box expansions 1 through 9 now out of print with Z-man games it seems inevitable that there will be no more “boxed”  expansions for this game in the original format.   :'(

I can imagine that the single small format tile sheets will still come out in Nation themed format for the monasteries (available only by mail order) but these introduce no new significant game play so have no appeal for me.

If HiG had plans to the contrary then I would expect that they would have dropped some vague hint to “expect something for the original Carcassonne sometime soon”   If anyone has picked up on something like this then please share.

Personally I am still having more fun than you can “shake a stick at" by plodding away at my own expansions.   :@ :@

I also have more spare tiles put by for making expansions than even Paul would want to admit to.   :)

The Marketplace / Re: Count like the Wheel...

see this post

I have that Russian Carcassonne set too but have not got round to photographing it yet...

Man, you just buy everything in sight, don't you? :) But since you hate the Count, and the main purpose of this Russian set seems to be the single Count tile, was that why you bought it or was there another reason?

I bought a second copy of the winter carcassonne last week ( for the tile backs to make an expansion) and was disappointed to see it did not come bundled with the gingerbread man  (my first copy had it included).  It is a bit dissapointing that you cannot always get the same thing in the box and have to be carfull checking them out before you buy.

Checking out all the local stores and the on-line stores it seems that just about everything in the old format is out of stock or heading that way.  If you have any gaps in your collection it seems (as Jean Luc Picard used to say when he needed to be transported off an exploding starship) "now would be a good time"

and the number 1 game is ????

http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/aug/28/20-awesome-board-games-you-may-never-have-heard-of

the tile-based farming / castle building / road-based thievery simulator has enduring popularity, and is still winning new fans the globe over. It’s a game that’s a dream to play in pubs, even if you have to wear the curiosity of fellow locals with a fixed grin at times. The game has loads of add-on packs to increase the complexity. “For me, it is the ultimate,” says an anonymous French man who owns a lot of board games.

“Well designed, well crafted, never the same scenarios. Clever extension packs which keep the game fresh,” murmured one reader with approval. “A brilliant game with near infinite re-playability

Official Rules / Do roads end in Wheel of fortune?

Does the rim on the wheel terminate the roads on the start tile that touch it, just want to confirm.

Thanks for the answer,  I just wish that the instructions for order in which to pick fleas were as clear as you had stated, but unfortunately that is not how I understand the rules  as in the S-car

“It is also possible to divide a swarm of fleas by choosing to move one of them.”

this statement is written without regard to there being any fleas in the supply or available as latent.

also

“The region affected is now an ‘inactive’ Plague region. All adjacent flea tokens
should be turned onto their ‘latent' sides; from this point on, fleas tokens must
be moved out of an latent epidemic region, rather than the supply
.”

states that latent fleas should be used  before any remaining fleas in the supply.

again thanks for the prompt response
