Here is a photo contest.
Each participant in this contest will present a picture of the game, the only requirement is that they must use a fan-expansion in our download archive.
In late February, all photographs will participate in a secret ballot to determine the best. Each person of the forum can vote his favorite, of course not be able to vote for themselves.
The person who sent the photograph and a randomly selected from those who voted for the winner, will receive from me the opportunity to have an important expansion of their choice printed directly on tile (up to 12 tiles).
I hope to see many highly artistic photos, fun and quirky.
Rule Clarifications
- Any Official Carcassonne base game, including spinoffs, with any expansions
- It MUST include a fan expansion - but not necessarily from CarcC's Download - so long as it's available somewhere
-
What a fantastic idea!
But, I'm going to up the ante here - I'll offer to print a smaller expansion (upto 6-tiles) for 2nd place too!
-
Are we limited with our own hand printed expansions? Or with only on CarcC published fan-expansions?
I have one fan-expansion "Die Flussfahrer" (http://www.carcassonne-forum.de/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1476), which was not printed by me, I just own it, but never played.
-
It can be used any fan-expansion. Now you have a good reason to try it :)
-
Does it have to be for Classic Carcassonne or can it be for any of the spin offs?
-
What you want, just that it's something of Carcassonne, and a fan-expansion :)
-
Great idea! Now I'll have to choose a fan-expansions to make and play with! ;)
-
OK then, here's a photo of a game I played with my wife last Sunday. Not an artistic one at all, but it will do for a start. At least some interesting details can be found in it. For example, some unusual wooden figures (even on the scoreboard), unfortunately one of them is improperly placed (I guess you will find it quite easily).
Official expansions included in this game:
- GQ11 tiles
- King and Robber Baron
- Wagons from the Abbey & Mayor expansion
(+ some extra tiles from the base game, that's why there are two CCCC tiles)
Fan-expansions included:
- Wells (can be downloaded here (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=232))
- The wagoner
- City walls
The latter two are not yet published, actually this game was a playtest of their rules. The game was great fun, I think both new expansions passed the test (but please don't ask for the rules here in this topic, sooner or later I'd like to publish them in the Expansion Workshop), in the end I won by some points.
The final result: :violet-meeple: Leven 191, :green-meeple: Mrs Leven 186.

Not sure what I was expecting based on the text above but this is an awesome photo! Looks like it was a fun game too. Well done Leven :) :(y)

I think Leven as a single participant has won the prize without a vote.
-
Oops, completely forgot to post. Sorry! Congrats Leven

Quevy, I am sure that other members also wanted to participate in this contest but simply forgot about it because there was no activity here.
So I suggest let's extend the contest for another month.
-
If that's okay, that's ok for me.
-
I've been meaning to post a photo here for some time, so thanks for extending the closing date.
Lukey-Dukey and I decided to play a quick game last night and used the German Castles mini expansion as we've not played with them before. We also both wanted to use The Astronomers fan expansion by Decar, as we enjoy it. It was a really interesting game and despite my best efforts the cheeky little monkey won in some style! There's a quick write up at http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2527.0 if you're interested, but I thought that I'd post another photo here as it shows Decar's quality fan expansion up close. It might look a little odd, but honestly we didn't deliberately choose to place most of The Astronomer tiles so close to each other, it just kinda happened!
-
Great photo Rich, those Astronomers tiles look awesome!
Congrats to Lukey-Dukey on what I'm sure must have been a tough win! 8) :(y)

Oh no! The Dragon has raided the Easter Bunny's basket!
Luckily the Fairy has come to the rescue to protect the rest of the eggs. :))

That's a great photo. Thanks for sharing
-
Awesome. Easter Bunny is on my print list. I really should get that sorted!
-
Thanks JT Atomico for the great photo with the dragon and the Easter Fan-Expansion.
HiG asked if they are allowed to use the photo for their twitter and facebook account.

Yes, of course they can use it! I would be honoured :)
I am @_jamiehumphries on Twitter if they want to mention me.

I think Leven as a single participant has won the prize without a vote.
By the way, I think one of the reasons that more people haven't been involved in this competition is that it does not appear in the Recent Topics section of the home page, which is where I usually look for topics to read. I only found out about it because of Decar's links from other topics!
-
I've been moaning about the front page needing a rethink for quite a while, I sometimes double post in General so people see things. I always make sure I click "Show Unread posts since last visit" too.
I've been tweeting about it too!

Lukey-Dukey and I played a little game last night. Seeing as it was a school night and getting a bit late we just used the King and Robber Baron tiles and danisthirty's Trick or Treat fan expansion with the base game. If I'm honest I don't think there were enough tiles to allow the Trick or Treater adequate movement, so there were quite a lot of tricks and treats! I hadn't used this fan expansion for some time so must confess that I had to look up the rules (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2163.0), however I do still have a few points I'd like to clarify - I'll post these in the next few days.
Just wanted to say thanks to danisthirty for the expansion and also to quevy for helping to motivate me to actually get the tiles out and play a real life game for a change (most of my games this year have been on JCZ or the Android app).
Here's photo from part way through the game where we're just about to score the big city at the top. Lukey-Dukey had carefully placed one of the fan expansion tiles to get a second meeple (monkey) into the city and then drew a CCFF to place it just beneath that tile to take ownership of the city with two meeples and claim the King bonus tile too!
-
I'd love to get in on this competition, but I don't yet have any fan expansions printed! I keep meaning to, but my problem is that I'd probably make a mess of it and I couldn't stand to use rubbish looking tiles.
But it's decided! I will print some out and use them tonight! Or maybe, tomorrow. Soon, anyway.
When is the competition running to?
-
Today, I had a couple of games including the base game, the astronomers, the temptress and the labyrinths. We also used the score discs and my most loved carcassonne item; my pewter meeples.
I won both games and I am not sure of the score. Here are a few pictures:

I'm bias of course, but those tiles look great - how did the expansions play?
-
A couple of days ago me and my wife played a quite extraordinary game where – except for the normal followers and the scoring table – there were no official elements involved, only unofficial tiles and figures.
Before writing a little summary, I attach two photos of the game, and offer you a little puzzle:
Can you name all 12 unofficial expansions which gave at least one tile to this game?
To make things a bit more difficult, some of the expansions were represented by only one or two of their tiles (while the complete downloadable expansion contains a lot more), so this may be a good test about how familiar you are with those expansions. :)
Already solved:
-
I recognise: Wells
A most amazing photo btw!
-
It's probably a bit late (I keep forgetting to post it), but here's an photo which shows the Sinkholes expansion (and 2 trapped meeples).
-
@Leven that game looks great with all the unusual tiles, what a fun idea. I'd be keen to find out (in due course obvs) what these fan expansions are as they look fab.
-

Thanks, Decar.
Wells is a good guess. :(y)
I will keep the original post updated with the list of expansions.
-
Second guess is:Seasons
-
Second guess is:Seasons
That was obvious. :)
-
Funny thing was I actually guessed the title and downloaded it to check.... I'd not played it before. Looks like a great mechanic to include though! The others look a little harder to guess titles for now :(
-
Woohoo, finally found one... Natural Disasters
-
And your own: Strono! What another great idea!
-
Last one for tonight. I'll let someone else have a go:
Wanderer and Mayor’s Office
Merit to you for your fun game too!
-

No, Storno wasn't included this time. :(n)
But thanks for the compliment. :)
Wanderer and Mayor’s Office
That's correct. :(y)
Merit to you for your fun game too!
Thanks. :)

Yes. A few other tiles of that mega expansion were also included in this game.
-
quevy, are there enough photos in the competition now to hold the vote?
-
Careful! Rushing the contest results in automatic disqualification C:-) C:-) :'( :'(
-

Here is another late entry!
I played with (against?) my son in a fan-expansion-only game. I´m less good at uploading pictures then I am entering my big farmer on to your field so let´s see if it works.
Edit: it did! Now I just have to get everything printed out properly, the colours are extremely varied...
Expansions from this place included were: The Coast (which we played as a lake), Veto, Mills & Bakeries, Roman Influence, Gallows, Animal Farm, The Prison, The Leper, The Troubadour, The Fortune Teller, Apothecaries, Seasons, Roads to Victory, some Math Guy tiles, The Commons, Stone Circles, The Astronomers, Pestilence and some tiles from various forums such as The Pentagram, Ruins, City Tower (?), Stonehenge and some of my own tiles.

Last
(http://i64.tinypic.com/2jg9wjl.jpg)
As a bonus I´ll include our scoreboard where you can see brave orange beating puny purple 344 to 235.

Peace!
-
Where did that scoreboard come from? How is it possible that I've missed that before. It's genius. I love it!
-
Merit for those photos. Looks like it was a great game! :) :(y)

(no blushing meeples in the list...)
Thank You, it was my first attempt of combining some stuff we use in the game in a practical manner. However, since after doing this we realised that Seasons doesn´t actually need the seasons themselves, however romantic, just the season-tile AND that we always forget to play with the prison, I´ll remove those two and replace it with the Friar-counter which we today count with monastery-tokens from a fan expansion I forgot the name of.
The two counters are for King and Robber, starting off at five since that is our low-record in completion (in a VERY aggressive game with lots of trapped meeples). I didn´t use the real King-tile because, well it´s ugly.
The biggest problem with this scoreboard is that it´s only suitable for 2-3 players, after that the scoring meeples get very packed, in those cases we play with the big 999-counter.
I´ll post it as I get done.
-
Late, but is it in time? A game-end shot showing off how The Coast was meant to look, rather than a lake or an island. Lots of rivers too, plus a few of the other Carc II expansions I've posted - and some still to come. It's ended just a few short of 200 tiles - is that considered Mega-Carc?
-
Leven, is Fun With Bluffs one of the ones in there?
And I think I see Solazy's walls, but have those been included in one of the expansions already pointed out?

It's so beautiful.... Really really really beautiful fan expansion! I need those tiles for CC1 somehow, along with the forests. Wish I was handy and could print them :-\
