Title: Most expensive Carcassonne item ever on eBay?
Post by: JT Atomico on September 11, 2013, 10:48:25 AM
A copy of Die Belagerer (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221279063333?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649) just sold for 109.50 euros on eBay! Oh my. I put a bid in at around the 30 euro mark, but then it just exploded...

That's certainly the most expensive Carc thing I've ever seen sold. Though perhaps an original copy of La Porxada may fetch more.

I am going to appeal again to any kind hearted Germans out there that might be willing to buy a copy or two and send it to the forum members. I only live in the UK, so the postage wouldn't be too bad! :D

I was watching this too. I was expecting it go high as it's the first time it's been on eBay to the best of my knowledge. But like yourself, it was too high for me.

I would expect one of the original Porxada stickers to go for a lot more than this. After all, there were 1000 sets including Die Belagerer sold whereas there were just 72 Porxada stickers.

Wow, you're right. He went WAY up on his price. Last week when I saw it, it was $128. If you look at his completed items, you'll see it for $128 with no one biting.

Heh, I wondered which one of us just bought this?  Or you mean there are sick Carcassonne completionists out there that are not on this forum?  hehe

Do you now at last see Tobias point???
Someone (guess who) made these auctions possible.
They are giving these sharks the possibility to make serious money on this.

Let's remember that there's a big difference between how much these sell for and how much people are asking for. I genuinely hope that nobody is desperate enough to spend $285 on 6 tiles. The same guy is still asking for $185 for Corn Circles 1; at that price he can keep it.

The most I've seen the full box sell for is still 109.50 Euros. I've seen two "Buy it Now"s for about 65 Euros and unsurprisingly both of those went quite quickly. There are a couple of ongoing auctions still in progress too.

I have a little curious to know how this guy gets these in expansions, which are not very common even in Germany. ???

That same guy asking $185 for his Corn Circles 1 was asking $128 just last week. No idea why he bumped his price up so much but if it wasn't selling at $128 (it wasn't, he's relisted a few times), it sure isn't going to sell at $185.

I will send the link from the ebay seller to HiG, because the seller use the HiG logo - you can see it at the bottom of the text.

All what I can say is: wait wait wait - in some month is even ebay not so much expensive.
And in Germany is that box 24,99 EUR at Mueller.

I will wait for the CundCo Shop one day...

La Porxada:
Don't you ever ask yourself why does the German have so much items from the La Porxada?

It is really easy:
At BGG you can find a very good picture of the tile and also at CarcF you can find the rules.
Print it out, glue the tile on a blanc tile with the back Carc C - and then go as a seller to ebay and earn much money from people who like to drew out their money out off the window...

So that means he is looking regular here at CarcC and he/she knows how important the 6 new tiles are for many members at CarcC - that makes the price high...

At 8:15 he/she lives and comes from Germany.

now at 10:00 he/she lives and comes from Singapore.

"thecarcassonnecollector" recently changed his name from "icydarkstary" and is a member of Carcassonne Central under that nickname. He has even posted on this thread to link to his listing for Corn Circles (but that message was removed).

I would never buy from him for a number of reason and wouldn't recommend anyone else do so either. Cost aside, the descriptions he puts up are factually incorrect and nothing short of moronic. He has also claimed that Corn Circles 1 is now unavailable except through him!

Looking through his history he has sold a number of "La Porxada" tiles which he's listed as being extremely rare. Whilst this would be fair enough if they were originals, the fact is that he is simply making his own copies of the tiles and then selling them on. This makes them about as rare as a snotty tissue to a parent of a toddler with a cold. Somehow he's been able to find people daft enough to pay for them which probably helps to explain why he can afford to get hold of some of the genuinely rare expansions. I dread to think how much he'd charge for The Cathars...

Hi danisthirsty, here are some clarifications :-[

1) The reason why i put that i have last few available Corn Circle 1 for sale is because im the only seller that is selling it on Ebay.com/ Ebay.de/BBG
2) The reason why Corn Circles 1 and Cathars are so expensive because, i bought them at expensive prices from Germany. I took time and effort to hunt down for these items.
3) As for the La Porxada, it was stated on the listing that they were not the original. I have stated it very clearly in the description and every buyer was satisfied as they continuingly make request to me to make more for them. But i have stooped making them for a very long time already. I will not sell them anymore in the future.
4) The Corn Circles and Belagerer in the listing are genuine. The reason why i price it high is because of 2 reasons.
    - I have a limited quantity of them in my collection, so only those that can afford should get them.
    - I sold a number of Corn Circles 1 at around the listed price. The reason why it was listed so many times was because they was sold. i relisted it to sell another copy.
5) The changing of location from Singapore to Germany was an error. I thought they wanted to country of origin.
6) I noticed my mistake of putting the Hans Im Gluck logo. So i put it down.
7) I only have 1 copy of belagerers in my collection. im only willing to sell if some buyer is willing to pay. If not I can't bear to sell it away.  :-\ (i was actually hoping no one who buy it, but i listed it anyway if someone reaaally wants it :-[)

Sorry for causing all the uproar  :-[

@icydarkstary - How you conduct your business affairs is entirely up to you, but expecting other people to pay inflated prices just because you did doesn't seem justifiable to me. But then what do I know? You must be doing something right if you can afford to live in Germany and Singapore simultaneously.

@ Icydarkstary, Ebay is a free market and you can charge what you will, but I would just find it very hard for anyone to justify paying the amount of money that you are asking for your sets.
For me, this forum is about people that love this game and want to encourage others in playing and make the most out of their game. It's not about seeing what people want the most so that you can try to make a profit off of them.
That's just my two cents since I don't have the 185.00 for corn circles or 285.00 for besiegers.
Good luck

Not the most I've seen a Carc item go for on eBay.  Die Katharer has commanded more.

If publisher do not want to see items being sold for moronic prices at auction sites on the Internet, or have their copy righted material pirated and sold off, they can simply make official versions readily available to their fan-base. People will find a way to supply any and all demands; that is how the market works.

I neither condone nor touch piracy, but I do understand it.

The publisher must have been expecting this since they only printed, what, 1000 copies of Die Belagerer?  Mueller paid for an exclusive it seems and they definitely have one.

This has always been an issue in the world of business. Carcassonne on the other hand is not suited to be limited edition nor for collecting of rarity like other games. Considering the viable usage of the basic game and it's expansions even today, there should be a simple way to release these.
Trimming down the box size would be one great advantage in saving for material and shipping. I could go for a flat sheet embalmed in plastic like The Plague.

So far I've only bought sealed sets of the Carcassonne products but am considering of buying opened/used mainly to increase my tile collection, my main love for the game.  :meeple:

I've always thought of Carc as both a game and a collectible, the publisher obviously wanted it to be such or else there wouldn't have been limited and/or exclusive sets and there has been from the very beginning, like Die Katharer.  When they only print it once or twice in a magazine that makes it a limited edition to me.

Plus it was then later released in a new version to stores with alternate art.

So it did, which is a lot better than 109.50.  Though the shipping might end up being a lot if the buyer lives far away from Germany.

Makes me happy I already have Die Katharer!

I feel a little bad because icydarkstary has apologized and I think it is within his right to sell his expansions at the price his will, and is a personal decision to purchase or not.
This forum is to promote the game and I think that reading some post and looking for at ebay, BGG, etc you can have the discretion to know when something is expensive.  :blue-meeple:

Man I would definitely bid but I know it will go waaay out of my price range before long... I also noticed corn circles has gone down in price. (If I had heaps more money and if HiG hadn't mentioned the eventual possibility of a re-release I would consider it).

Reading this thread has given me a better understanding of why Tobias is so angry. Although it may be completely within a person's right to sell things at ridiculous prices to people who are willing to pay it, I don't think it is right. I especially have a problem with people who buy things so that they can sell them right away for even more money. Nothing has been done to increase the value of the item. I only buy things that I want to keep for myself, and if some day I don't want it anymore, I don't think it is fair to get more money back than what I paid for it because I got value out of the item.

I'm not a big fan of auctions either. I prefer people to tell me how much they want, and if I find the price agreeable, we'll exchange my money for your product. I don't like agreeing to buy something for a certain price, and then somebody with more money comes along and takes it away.

I totally agree with this sentiment. It stops others from getting a fair shot at building up a collection, which no true fan would do in my opinion. I hope that regular CarcCentral folk are better than that.

Die Windrosen was making a lot on eBay a month or two ago, but I wouldn't have dreamt of selling the copy that I got through this forum. The first thing I did when I got it was tear off the plastic unpunch the tiles and play with them!

That Big Box auction, wth!?  And why is it 500 bucks plus in the By It Now, but in the description it says:

$267.60 $360.95

Is the seller away and he didn't want to take the auction down so he made it unbuyable?  I've seen that before, $10 items for a thousand with an "I'm away" message in the description.

The "Buy It Now" price ($535.20) is exactly twice the price in the description ($267.60) and the seller had two copies available. I guess he just messed up his maths a bit! Worked out well for him though, he's already sold one copy.

Why would anyone pay this for Big Box 3? Especially when you can buy al of the constituent parts individually for much less!

Ah, so that's it.  You're right, still way too much.  If somebody paid that much they deserve to lose their money.
