News concerning carcassonne hunters and gatherers
In an interview from 16 June 2020 (source linked below), Mr. Geilenkeuser (HiG Verlag) reveals that there will be a new edition with revised rules and a new design by illustrator Marcel Gröber (see also new Carcassonne Junior) before the end of this year!
PS:
I am very curious about further information! - hunters and gahterers is with "the city" still my favourite spinoff.

Hmm.. seems like HiG have decided to more and more go down the route of re-releases/updates of older products, rather than fully new things.
We've seen the new Kinder of Carcassonne, and now Hunters and Gatherers...
As they say it will have revised rules I'll hold off on passing judgment, but as still. It's been a long time since we've seen a big expansion for Carcassonne itself. Maybe they want to focus more on other games or mini-expansions, which I can understand, but I'm not too sure yet about re-releasing older products with a revamped look

I guess I'll wait for a re-release of the Winter edition instead of buying an overpriced one now :P

Er.... The Winter Edition was the Second Edition already (closer to C2 in artwork style).

The first one was a PnP Download version (closer to C1 in artwork style):

Maybe no need. Have you checked this out?

Winter edition only used once for €22,50 + shipping costs...
Just saying! >:D
-
It's for bidding unfortunately :( also postage from NL is like 10 euros...
A re-re-release will be cheaper :P and hopefully will have the gingerbread man expansion
-
Sorry, I didn't see the bidding box on the right :'(
-
Would be interesting to see what the new art is, I want it either way in my collection.

I don't think they will reissue it because it's already in C2 style. When they release a C3 version maybe yes ...

Topic-Update
As Maik@CarcF writes Carcassonne Hunters and Gatherers will be released at the end of September 2020 :neutral-meeple:
And - there will also be a new edition of the winter edition released at the same time! :(y)

I KNEW IT! :D haha
I wonder if they will include the Corn Circles and the gingerbread man
-
Is it just the reprint or brand new art? Im asking about both.
-
This means that we would have:
* Winter Edition Download Version (2011) - The C1-ish one.
* Winter Edition (2012) - The C2-ish one.
* Winter Edition v2? (2020) - The ?-ish one.

Winter is coming... again
Also, someone know where to found the download version? My PM are open if someone have a link :-)

.....or maybe something new - Hills & Avalanches?
The last part doesn't sound very festive :))
-
Maybe we will have the opportunity to enjoy snowed gardens and abbots. Who knows if a frozen river... ;D
-
Do we know it will have new art? Same with H&G.
Also, if H&G is rereleased, do you think it will get any expansions? It sure deserves them - it was the first spin-off :D
-
Maybe they add the equivalent mechanism to the abbot in the shape of a witch doctor or a chaman. Who knows?
-
Or equivalent to the river? There is already a fan expansion for it.
-
Some members of CarcF are very fond of the Winter Edition and created tons of fan conversions of C1 expansions back in the day... Mostly for the Download Version if I remember correctly. :)
-
One thing I really hope for with this new winter editon is that we finally get the rules for the animal tiles (as we were promised for so many years).
-
Vanilla tiles are always welcome! ;D
-
Am I the only one or someone else has not realized that by editing this new version of the winter carcassonne they are implying that they are going to publish a third future version of carcassonne soon?
It is the same strategy that they followed with C2. First a winter edition and then the new version of the classic with the same illustrator. I think they are following the same steps for a new third version.

IMHO you there is another angle to this matter. The starting point for this re-release fever is C2... Now HiG can reimagine any spin-off released in the C1 days of Carcassonne...
...even The Dice Game... Can you picture it with C2 graphics? >:D

The winter edition was the first C2 Carcassonne with Anne Pätzke... I don't think this re-release is because C2... Another C2 winter edition? No sense... This will be the first of C3 edition... Time to time...

Here it is. Back of box of Hunters and Gatherers with tiles from Czech/Polish and Slovak (I suppose) edition.
Illustrations by Marcel Grober
-
Well I'm not able to upload czech FULL rules, because it's 12MB
There is a lot of NEW STUFF
But here is link:

-
It seems to include 79 land tiles (base game) + 12 extra tiles (base game) + 4 scout tiles (unless I'm wrong) = 95 tiles. What about the extra figures? Does it include the shaman? The figure count is higher than the first edition.
-
Well a lot of stuff
95 tiles - 1 starting, 78 basic game, 16 menhir tiles
30 meeples
15 buildings
24 hidding tokens
5 scoring tiles
scoring board
rules (of course)
Shaman is only on tile, also include small/big traps, menhirs (new turn), forest fire tile, etc.
-
Has this been released or shown anywhere yet? Will the tiles artwork be the same or is it getting an update?
-
So far, there are images around of the new box cover for different editors only:
A closer look here: (from this previous post: http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4700.msg70166#msg70166 (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4700.msg70166#msg70166))
But, since the contents of the game has been updated (new pieces and all), we suspect we will have a new artwork and updated rules...
Check the tiles on the back of the box (the water looks like C2-ish rivers):

Can't believe it... :o

it looks good

I think the box looks stunning, however, on the tiles the grass is too light and rivers too dark. The forests look cool though!
-
Don't like the new art for the same reason I don't like C2 art. Too colorful, distracting and cartoony.
-
Agreed, but I still like that H&G is getting more attention again!
But I prefer the relaxing autumn feel the original gives me. :orange-meeple: :neutral-meeple:

Dutch version is out !
-
Huh, so different animals now have different point values? Interesting. I believe a similar house rule existed back in the day. :orange-meeple:
-
Well si can say only this: HiG want to get attention to young audience. Old design is creappy when you compare other new games. So they have to change also C1 to C 2.
I'm selling my C1 expansions because kinds want to play C2 with Tollkeepers, Gardens, Leipzig.

Pity the tribe members resemble too much like the shepherds.

Played this on BoardGameArena last night, it's also on Tabletopia.
There are a few tweaks for the previous edition. Mainly the extra special tiles. The rules are on tabletopia, or probably zman. It plays really well on BGA.

I assume the four extra tiles are from The Scout and have just been converted into Bonus tiles. What four new tiles have been added?
-
Only two tiles are quite similar to Scout miniexpansion, Logboat and Shaman; however, they have slightly different rules.
The other three are quite new:
- Hunting trap (score and "remove" animals on the 8 surrounding tiles)
- Pit trap (double value of each animal on the 8 surrounding tiles at the end of the game)
- Raft (at the end lakes score 1 point in addition to the fish found in that river)
Here is the manual:

I played around 20 games on BGA. And I see these things:
-There are less basic tiles 76 and not 78 like old version. And some of them there are different distribution than old stuff.
-Special tiles are 15 and not 12 like old version. And yes, some special of them are different too.
With new design I found more complicated to see well the tiles when you build the land table. The illustrations are beautiful althought not confortable to play.
I preffer the old version in my opinion.
