Forum worked for me earlier in the week, but at 10:30pm EST yesterday it was unavailable. Same thing at 10am today.

Seems to work fine now. Glad all is back to normal :c)

My "base game" is:
- 72 original base tiles,
- 18 I&C tiles,
- for each player: 8 standard size meeples (with big meeple as scoring marker), a phantom, a builder, 3 bridges.

I like that build as well. My wife and I have a mix that's closer to what Carcking posted:

-72 original base tiles
-RIVER 2 tiles
-I&C tiles
-T&B 'regular' tiles
-A&M 'regular' tiles

MEEPLES PER PLAYER:
-7 regular meeples (using 1 regular meeple to track scoring)
-1 BIG MEEPLE
-1 MAYOR
-1 BUILDER
-1 ABBEY

-NO barn, pig, castles, bridges

-We also play with P&D on a regular basis, but I'm excluding all those tiles from this list of our base game.

Reviews & Session Reports / Re: 1 vs. 1 - Base game only

Majority of my games have been 1 - 1 as well. I'm a huge fan of how interactive 1 - 1 is.

And I always found the most frustration/reward out of making a plan, needing more and more specific tiles to follow through with that plan, and then either getting those perfect 3 or 4 side tiles that complete my feature, or watching as my opponent's score climbs higher and higher while I sadly play tiles that DONT support my faltering plan. That's always been the best part for me.

And in a game like that, anyone can win, and there's something to be said for a game that combines strategy with luck just right so that a newbie can best one of us :c).

That's a great resource. I'm already thinking of ideas to incorporate the pig myth.

Maybe when a first player plays a siege or cathars tile on an incomplete city, another player who owns the city can gift their pig meeple to the first player. The first player then effectively has two pig meeples, and the other player can immediately discard the siege tile, along with any followers on it, off of the board and start his next turn.

I'd also like to incorporate the renaissance into an expansion and have Da Vinci followers doing cool stuff. Not sure what stuff they'll be doing yet.

4. Kloster: I'll always call them "cloisters" since that's how I learned the game. However, "monastery" is probably more commonly used, at least in the States.

I concur with the concensus on this one. I'll always call them cloisters since that's how I learned as well. Based on the wording referenced by Carcking in the dictionary, it seems like a 'monastery' is a specific kind of cloister, which lend weight to it.

6. Goldstück: I prefer "gold piece" or "gold bar". The word "ingot" is not a word that most people would ever use.

As a minecraft player, I'm fine with encouraging a paradigm shift towards more "ingot"s here in the states :c)

8. Windrosen: As I mentioned in the CAR, the correct term for this in English is "compass roses" since it has the compass directions on it. I kept "windroses" because I think it's more poetic.

Agreed.
