Official Rules / Re: Clarification of rules - Gold Mines

Correct, you need to "win" (have majority) a feature in order to collect the gold on the tile. If they are more than one completed feature from two different players, you take turn to take a piece of gold.

...the castle is a separate feature from the tiles underneath.

I see, it doesn't replace it but sit atop, makes sense, thanks!

Thanks everyone, that seals the deal on this one.

Edit: I meant on the 2nd question, still not too keen on the 1st one...

Official Rules / Re: Drawing your next card out of order
« on: February 25, 2013, 09:16:34 AM »
The probability doesn't change, but the guy drawing early could still get the tile you would have chosen.

Exactly my point too, I get that the probability won't change, but probability doesn't factor in luck. Some will argue that, but I do believe that some are luckier than others when there's chance involved.

When we play, we will pick after the previous person picked (so we can play quicker), unless there's an extension that could have them pick again. In that case, we'll pick when we know we can.

Ah, I had the same issue with this idea, here's a good read about it over on the BGG forum: http://boardgamegeek.com/article/11186117#11186117

Question 2:
When playing with the Count of Carcassonne extension, you can put a Meeple in the City of Carcassonne when you close something and cause someone else to score and that you do not score. Our argument was after I closed a Cloister for my buddy, I didn't score on that, but I had a Castle that did scoop the same 9 points because one of my 6 tiles was touching it. Because I made points "after" the structure was closed, we weren't 100% sure how we should handle it. In the end we both agreed that I scored and therefore shouldn't be allowed to move a Meeple to the City, but I would like a confirmation of such.

All points are scored after a feature is completed.

This is what was confusing a bit. The feature was completed and I did make points, but after it was completed and scored, we weren't sure of the order. But looks like did the right thing, thanks for the confirmation.

Hopefully that is correct:

Please look at your Profile - Modify Profile - Time offset.

In "Time offset" you can change your local time.
Oh thanks, it is under Profile > Look and Layout.

Question 1:
If you look closely on the token, you will notice that there's grass/farm all around it and when you put a Castle onto of a two-pieces city, it does cover all of it. Does this means that it connects two farms that were previously separated by that 2-pieces city?
The Castle separated the farms in the same way as a 2-pieces city. (BigBox3)
Then the design is wrong IMO, it shouldn't have farm/land around it, leads to confusion. If that is the case, they should of made the Castle go all the way to the edge of the token.

Reviews & Session Reports / The River of Fortune
« on: February 25, 2013, 05:27:21 AM »
My friend got the Wheel of Fortune and we got to play for the first time this weekend. We both enjoyed it and will certainly play some more.

After a couple of rounds to get familiar with it, we decided to mix it up and at the same time, we've been wanting to play with both rivers for a while now. We started to see how we can play with both rivers and the Wheel of Fortune together. We have came up with: The River of Fortune.

With our first attempt, we let the first person place the T of the river during their first turn and we had put two closing of river in the mix, keeping the closing with the volcano for the last one. It worked ok and here's what it looked like before and after all the river tiles were placed and note that we took off both starting tiles of each river expansion:

What we didn't like though was the potential of closing an end too early and having it unbalanced. As you can see above, the right hand side got closed early. The next couple of times, we changed it by putting the T shape in place before we started to draw tiles and we put aside the three ends, upside down. We placed all of the tiles and then we pick from the end tiles. We liked this way better because you only get to close it at the end and it is still a bit random who gets the end piece, which is important because there's one with a volcano and another with a city.

Here's a result of this before and after all of the river tiles placed:

We allowed placing Meeple on the Wheel of Fortune during the placement of the river tiles. All in all we enjoyed it very much and we will need to play it a few more time to see if we encounter issues with using both rivers. I read online that it is not recommended to play River II with the City of Carcassonne, but since we manually place the starting tiles against the wheel, it worked quite well. I'm sure the same can be done with the City of Carcassonne, but you need both rivers.

Not sure where to post this, didn't see any section just for the site/forum.

Can I change the time zone of the forum? Not sure if I'm just blind, but I cannot see where I can do this.

Thanks

Official Rules / Castles - 2 Questions
« on: February 25, 2013, 05:00:30 AM »
Hi everyone,

Played a game this weekend with the Bridges, Castles and Bazaars. We had included the Count of Carcassonne and after the session there was two questions that we needed confirmation and CAR didn't reveal any specifics.

Both has to do with the Castle and here's a Castle token for the ones that don't know and also to help with this topic:

Question 1:
If you look closely on the token, you will notice that there's grass/farm all around it and when you put a Castle onto of a two-pieces city, it does cover all of it. Does this means that it connects two farms that were previously separated by that 2-pieces city?

Question 2:

In the end we both agreed that I scored and therefore shouldn't be allowed to move a Meeple to the City, but I would like a confirmation of such.

Thanks all!

I just added a block to the home page listing 10 active eBay items related to Carcassonne...

I noticed that you have the BBG latest 10, which is a great idea, but it is the latest 10 posts rather than topics and when you get a popular topic like the current one, you get 10 post/items of the same:

Not sure if your widget lets you amalgamate more than one feed per block? If it does, I think that it would be best to include the feed of the latest topics and not posts. You get this by clicking on the RSS icon besides each forum section.

You can buy it at the CundCo Shop from HiG.
Thanks for the [super] quick reply!

Did anyone from Canada ordered from there, just wondering about the experience?
