Title: Some interesting mix of expansions
Post by: Maj. Frost on July 22, 2018, 11:09:03 AM
Yesterday evening we had a game at my friends house who got Big Box as a present. From big box we choose I&C, T&B and ferries. We didn't expect that Markets of Leipzig, that i brought would boost this mix so much. That was 3 player game and I ended up with 259 points. Second player 228 and third 188.

Part of my score was one 69 point cathedral city. Those tend to develop quickly once you get your builder in. Last two tiles I put in one go, thanks to the builder. Don't you love those situations?

Getting back to the point of this post. One of the player put his meeple on market tile which gives one additional point per every road tile. Rest of us quickly followed as we saw how he started to race on the scoring track.

Thanks to Market one can get four point for short two tile road. Even a whooping 6 if there is Inn on the road. Add ferries to this equation and you can use single inn multiple times. This was the first time when I said "oh no, not another city tile, I want road!".

Great write up Maj. Merit from me!

Did you give yourselves an extra meeple like the Leipzig expansion suggested?

Does it? Oh yes it does  ;D

I totally missed this sentence in the manual. I focused on the red part. As you know, considering the rules I use "common sense" ;)

I could get a higher result but I did not manage to end another "market" road to put my meeple on  "tanner quarter" (which adds additional 2 points for every farm or shed on the field.  I had many occasions for that, but I waited till very end for that.

Uncommon sense is just as good though!

We played Leipzig with the basegame a few weeks before the meetup.  It didn't add too much complexity.  We found it added to the most to road-scoring too!

I guess that with just the base game it divides the plane into four quarters so it is more difficult to make some mega field. Even with so many expansions as we played and many weird tiles there were no single big field to fight for. Luckily I won/drawed for two biggest ones.

Having a look at the photo:

2 quite big farms. But not many completed cities.  Those field bobuses made quite the difference though!

The market still naturally divided the plane into four areas. There were two participants of this year's Poland country tournament finals in the game so this was no easy one ;)

Another 2 expansions that would add to the roads are the Labyrinth(s) [Advanced] (I use old & new) and the German Cathedrals (I know that this is old art, but it doesn’t look bad)

My opinion: Only Old Art cities and New Art cities really clash. Roads aren’t significantly different and even in New Art the grass is different shades between expansions. In fact, I like that the darker grass on the German Cathedrals tiles makes them stand out a little bit.
