I've been to Erftstadt as it is "twinned" with the English town of Wokingham where I grew up (about 5 miles away from where I now live and work). There is also a part of town called "Erftstadt Court" where Tesco used to be (is now a Prezzo restaurant). When I was in Scouts we used to camp every 3 years with Scouts from a group in Erftstadt; in 1996 they came to England and we camped together for 2 weeks in the New Forest. In 1999 we went to Germany, visited Erftstadt and then camped... somewhere. I think I went to a beer festival there too, it was awesome! We even used to have a horseshoe competition ("clangers" and "ringers") but I was never very good at this.

Well that's taken me back anyway. Fond memories! I hope this meeting goes well...

This year:
I travelled by train a day ealier through my country.

First I was in Cologne and visited the great cathedral.

My hosters were Ratz65 and his girl friend. It was a nice weekend.

On Sunday morning Benny put me to the castle "Burg Konradsheim".

Last Sunday, nearly 200 Carcassonne fans from all over Germany and Holland gathered at Burgkonradsheim to share a special experience. Klaus-Jürgen Wrede was also on site and provided, among other things, the prototype of the next game in the series "Carcassonne around the World". If you missed the event, the next opportunity is on Sunday, February 8 2015 at the fortress Königstein.

Actions at the fan meeting – some more information:

Klaus-Jürgen Wrede had signed game boxes and games. This time he had made two signing times, so that all could collect their autographs.

The Gold Rush Tournament:
It was played at 6 tables with each up to 4-5 players in the 1st round. In total we were around 26-27 players.
Then the winners of the 1st round (winner of each table) played the next round.
I was not one of the winners of the 6 tables.
If I remember correctly the winners of the 1st round played on 2 tables each with 3 players...
Winner: Vera V. From Königswinter – the prize was the game Carcassonne-Goldrush

The horseshoe-tossing:
Always 2 players played the game against each other. One player got the blue and the other player got the red horseshoes. The players hit the horseshoe against a pin. Each player had 3 rounds each with 4 horseshoes (3x 4 horseshoe tossing).
There were around 28 people of all age groups who had participated to it.
That is all what I know about it.

The bingo game:
Each participant in the fan meeting became a sheet with 4 bingo games. It was then drawn from a bag and announced. Anyone could make his crosses. Each bingo game there had 3 winners = 12 winners.

Meeple stacking:
This year there was again a table for the Meeple stacking. This table was on the same place as the years before.

The prizes:
The landscape tile "Spiel 14" - autographed by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede also one of the prizes that could win the participants in the action. This time only signed by his last name.
The winners got some mini expansions.

Thanks for the report kettlefish!

Some day I shall get to something like this and join in with the horseshoe throwing. We had this as an activity for the guests to do at the reception when my wife and I got married (but I'm not very good at it)!

I didn't play the horse tossing.

During that time I played together with Udo Schmitz, Benny and another participant the prototype of the next Carcassonne around the world series.
The week before the fan-meeting, Udo printed and glued the tiles for this prototype. The rules are still on a sheet of paper without any graphics.
Last year I tested the prototype of Goldrush - that was very funny and the game play runs fine.

My conclusion:
It's a nice spin-off game and has some interesting game mechanics, but it is still a prototype.
This prototype needs some more test runs, changes in some details in the rules, discussions ...
How the game will actually develop remains hidden.
I think the graphics will be great.

Ah, so yet another spin off is in the works eh!? So we have the to look forward to this springtime maybe?

Horseshoes is quite popular with me...and in my area. Last year we had a big tournament at my work and my teammate and I won the championship! But that is outside with real iron shoes in dirt pits. It's a favorite pasttime around here for cookouts, graduation parties and holidays in general.

By the way, is that Spiel 14 landscape tile the first official (mini) expansion of Carc 2.0?

It will come next year in autumn. I hope we will see it at the exhibition "modell-hobby-spiel" in Leipzig (02.-04.10.2015) and short time later at the Spiel 2015 in Essen (08.-11.10.2015)

By the way, is that Spiel 14 landscape tile the first official (mini) expansion of Carc 2.0?
The first mini expansion is the "Abbot"

The landscape tile "Spiel 14" has no own rules.
If you like to get this tile, please send a small poem to CundCo.
Here is the link to their homepage:
Poem for Santa Claus - "Spiel '14" landscape tile
