Title: First edition meeple with difference

I have the first edition Carcassonne and noticed that the black meeple is different than the others. Is anyone familiar with that?

Yes, I think it's quite well known that the meeples that come in the first edition box are somewhat mishapen. I guess it took a while to refine their methods of mass-production!

Certainly the first editions are well known for their mishapenness.

However your black meeple appear to be something else entirely -
