Title: [LV] Carcassonne mini-tournament 2015
Post by: MrNumbers on February 17, 2015, 01:07:22 AM
Third year in a row I organize my own Carcassonne mini-tournament with cooperation with local distributor. Every year I try it to be different, this year isn't an exception. The format will be like our Carcassonne Central World Cup (I decided it to be like that already after previous mini-tournament (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=598.msg6855#msg6855)). Every single game in this tournament will run with different expansion and expansions will never repeat. Final game will be with 2 expansions. I have 33 expansions, so with 16 participants I can do this without any problems. Expansions will be picked randomly for every game. Prize is the same - Carcassonne base game with one expansions OR two expansion. Plus I have some signed tiles from kettlefish that also will be prizes and the main prize from me will be Carcassonne meeple-shaped photo-frame (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=664.0).
The event is scheduled for 28.02, so stay tuned for a future report! :)

This Saturday I had my third Carcassonne tournament. We set a new record of activity: 19 people came to play, many of them - first time visitors on tournaments. I received only positive feedback, many participants asked how often such events occur. I just invited them to visit my monthly game nights, because my tournament occurs only once a year :)
All 33 expansion that I have were involved, luckily I had some helpers that could explain the rules to the newbies. There were 4 groups with 5 participants, one group was shorthanded by one. Last year's winner zone2 won the group without losses, but suddenly lost in QF. For the final randomly were picked 2 expansions "Sheep and Hills" and "German Cloisters", and it was won by 6 points by permanent participant Martins.
Photo-report can be seen
here (http://www.carcassonne.lv/mini-turnirs-foto-2015/). Also there are all group stage and final stage tables with results. One game was lost because one player was run out of time (25 minutes each, expansion - Plague). Of course, you can use google translate to understand the text, but I already told you the main idea :)
I liked the event very much, as much as all other participants. Same applies to the format - group stage format was much better than double elimination, so I will continue to use it in the future tournaments.

I didn't read the report but I had a look through the photos and glanced at the scores. Well done for organising what looks like it was such a fun tournament MrNumbers!

One question though - did you not take part in it yourself?  :(

Hi MrNumbers,
and again you did a great job to organize this tournament in your town.

The score tables are perfect.
Thanks for the photos and the report.

The prizes - did you get the signed pieces through Udo Schmitz and HiG?

Greetings
kettlefish

Merit from me for organising a cool tournament! Maybe next year you can make a deal with AirBaltic to fly in some members of the CarcC community to participate :)

No, it would be too hard to achieve. Even without participating I was busy every second till the QF started (organizing matches, drawing and issuing needed expansions, explaining the rules, writing down all the game protocols... It is something different from online tournaments, the real 19 people simultaneously look at you and wait for the orders, what to do next. Organizing such an event also is much fun :))

The score tables are perfect.
Thanks for the photos and the report.

You are welcome! I am glad to receive such a high opinion from the best tournament x-list creator :D

The prizes - did you get the signed pieces through Udo Schmitz and HiG?

Some pieces were from Udo Schmitz, some pieces were from you :) Some time ago you sent me some signed tiles in order to give them as prizes at my events. That what I did ;)

Merit from me for organising a cool tournament! Maybe next year you can make a deal with AirBaltic to fly in some members of the CarcC community to participate :)

Thanks for the merit! :D
Good point about AirBaltic! Maybe I should contact them and they will become my sponsor! ;D
And I heard that Jere is a frequent visitor of Riga airport... ;)

Are you or zone2 to be seen on any of the photos in the report?

zone2 can be seen on this (http://www.carcassonne.lv/wp-content/uploads/P1240055.jpg) picture (to the right).

But if you look at the
previous tournament report (http://www.carcassonne.lv/mini-turnirs-foto-2014/), zone2 is the winner of it. Here is the picture (http://www.carcassonne.lv/wp-content/uploads/P1220462.jpg), where I congratulate zone2 with the win of my tournament (zone2 is to the right).

Thank you.

It looks great to me, too, that you do all this work to make such tournaments happen.

Great job MrNumbers!  Did you really play with catapult? Must be a world premiere for a tournament!

Hi MrNumbers,
I have a question about your score lists.

What does this mean?

Since the numbers vary from 1 to 33 and no one seems to be twice in the spread sheet, I would assume, that the Katapult is "Expansion Nr. 12" in Mr. Numbers list.

Great job MrNumbers!  Did you really play with catapult? Must be a world premiere for a tournament!

Not a premiere really :) Last year I already introduced it to public, when my tournament featured first 8 big expansions. Not so bad after all ;D

Hi MrNumbers,
I have a question about your score lists.

What does this mean?

It means "Expansion used". Every expansion had it's number. Every pair of players should draw a number from the bag (using something like this (http://www.smartytoys.ru/images/store/344_2.jpg)), I wrote this number in Excel spreadsheet and in the next cell formula showed me needed expansion.

thanks for the information.
That is a nice idea with your numbers for the expansions...

I have uploaded a x-score list for your CarcL tournament at CarcF:

Thank you, kettlefish, for the detailed x-score list! :(y) :D
In fact, only from your list I noticed that 3 out of 4 quarterfinal winners were second in their groups!
