Hello,
Do the Swan 47x47mm sleeves come in thin and thicker (premium)? I just received the thin sleeves, and they do seem slimmer than I hoped.
Thank you,
Kirk
-
Hi Kirk,
The sleeves for Carcassonne tiles are in the thin category. There are no thick 47mm x 47mm sleeves.
They are a protective film as you can see.
Cheers!
-
The result once sheathed is very good. And the protection is amazing. Even if they are thin they work better than you think. :D
-
I agree that any protection is better than none. I'm just a little surprised at how thin they are. Now, the decision is which version do I use them on, C1 or C2, since I don't have enough for both?
Thanks, Meepledrone and DrMeeple.

How many additional pack of sleeves would you need? I found a place that has some left.
-
At least 3, maybe as many as 6.

Are you talking about that Malaysia site? Im. Still lookikg for some
-
Swan Panasia is out of stock of sleeves for Carcassonne tiles for the time being.
How many sleeve packs were you looking for, Drodo?
-
For my whole C1 collection. I think I need around 400 sleeves for it.
I also have a full C2 collection which would require around 400 more but I care mostly about the C1 collection, since that's the one difficult to replace and also the one that gets played the most. Someone linked me to some Malaysia shop that has some but they dont ship to Mexico.
-
Do they deliver to the US?
Thanks,
Kirk
-
It seems so...
I don't know if Drodo was looking at the same site...
https://meeples.com.my/store/item_details.php?iid=1276 (https://meeples.com.my/store/item_details.php?iid=1276)
I selected 99 packs, tried an address in USA and it didn't show error message. Followed the purchase process until right before payment. It is necessary to order at least 6 packs to get the shipping method working...
Haven't tried this site first. If anyone can tell about it, I would appreciate it.

Yes that's the malaysia site. When I try to check out, the only available shipping method is a small one that it says only works within Malaysia. No international choices.
-
Did you try to contact customer support?
-
Maybe Malaysia is a sleeping Carcassonne giant and keep all the sleeves. ????????
-
Just heard from them. They aren’t allowed to ship them out of Malaysia.
-
No way! I can't believe it :o
-

Malaysia the world biggest Carcassonne nation in the world keep all their sleeves
-
Malaysia is the biggest Carcassonne nation?
-
It rather seems that Malaysia has plenty of sleeves in stock since there is not enough domestic demand and they don't sell abroad. :o
-
Malaysia will not ship outside Malaysia during Corona.
-
This is the response I received from Swan about their Premium sleeves:
'We have no plan for a premium sleeve of 47x47 because the premium material would be too thick and wide, that would increase the distance between the two tiles, that's why we only have the standard type of 47x47 sleeve.'
I thought they already produced premium sleeves, but he probably means that they're not going to produce any more.
Kirk
-
In your answer they don't say that they will not produce more sleeves... In any case, it is rare that they aren't yet available ... It seems that the sleeves of the tiles will disappear ... If it were true, It would be very sad news....
-
It looks like the standard sleeves are 40 microns thick, and the premium sleeves are 90 microns thick. I have two packs of standard sleeves, and I think the premium would be what I'm looking for. Maybe after this virus goes away, the supply will be better.
-
Hi,
I have one question about the sleeves' avaibility. Malasyan page aside, are they made sporadically, or can we consider them discontinued? On a Google search I found this blog post (in Spanish: https://carcassonneblog.wordpress.com/tag/carcassonne-sleeves/), saying that they were not made anymore, and it is from 2016, but I have seen some on some shops (not anymore) around last year. I think its weird they'd stop making them, considering they are good for C2, too.

It seems the blog page was updated recently without altering the initial posting date.
I didn't recall this comment from earlier visits, so I tried to access an earlier version with web.archive.org and you can see this comment wasn't there as of April 2017:

This is the paragraph you are mentioning:
Lamentablemente en estos momentos no quedan unidades en stock tanto en la web de Swan Panasia como en Smiling Monster Games Shop, siendo el resto de alternativas que tienen sobres a la venta bastante costosas. Esperemos que esta situación sea meramente transitoria y pronto vuelvan a poner nuevas unidades a la venta.
Unfortunately they are currently out of stock on both the Swan Panasia website and the Smiling Monster Games Shop. Other available sites selling sleeves are rather too expensive. We hope that this is just a temporary issue and they are back on stock soon.

Oh, thanks for the info! I hadnt noticed it was an edit... That means is more likely they have been discontinued :( . On the other hand, despite being square and supposedly fit to the milimeter, even after cutting the extra part, they had empty spaces (and only on two sides, weird), so they wasn't a perfect option. Definetly I'm not using the bag anymore, but I think there may exist a better way to preserve our tiles, we just haven't found it yet.
-
I haven't taken the time to prove this, but I wonder if there's a way to shrink protection onto the tiles and cut anything extra off around the edges. This would take hours to sleeve every tile, but would be worth it.
Kirk

Perhaps a legal issue... Because they still produced other sleeves for other cards... Maybe asmodee will produce sleeves??? HiG??

I just saw this on Cundco.de, Swan Panasia card sleeves for Paleo (the collaborative game HiG released recently):
https://cundco.de/en/detail/index/sArticle/360/sCategory/36 (https://cundco.de/en/detail/index/sArticle/360/sCategory/36)
I wonder if HiG signed any type of agreement with Swan Panasia and there will be some sleeves for Carcassonne tiles on Cundco.de too ;D
-
Surely. In fact I'm surprised they didn't sell them before. There's still hope! :))
-
The sleeves are back in stock at Board Game Extras.

quick silly question, once sleeved, I guess cards don't fit into tuckboxes right ? Tight ones I mean
-

I tried with cundco's cardboard small boxes and I could fit them in without too much difficulty ;)

Oh, and I don't know if some of you did already try it, but I sleeved cutcassonne's tiles together with blank tiles by removing the blank tile's top layer, it worked perfectly. And that way you don't even have to put glue or tape on the back of cutcassonne :)
-
Looks good!
Did you try to play a game to see how smoothly it goes?
-

It goes perfectly when mixed with with other sleeved tiles.
Of course, when mixed with non sleeved tiles, it's difficult to align them correctly.

I just checked and it seems there is some stock left on Smiling Monster (171 packs as of today):
https://www.smiling-monster.com/Card-Sleeves/Standard-Card-Sleeves/Swan-card-protection-sleeves-47mm-x-47mm-160-pcs-thin::69.html (https://www.smiling-monster.com/Card-Sleeves/Standard-Card-Sleeves/Swan-card-protection-sleeves-47mm-x-47mm-160-pcs-thin::69.html)
Have fun!
-
ahhh still strugling
I made all my tuckboxes perfect fit and it took me a lot of hours to put all together, I am scared that it won't fit anymore
and on top of it, it adds a looooooooooot of hours to sleeve all tiles for CI, CII + spin off (2000 + maybe ? didn't count exactly
-
I bought a few packs of these a few years ago. Back then through BoardgameExtras.
I've only sleeved the rarest of tiles which I'll not play with. So Russian Promo's (got printed ones to play), Spiel tiles, signed tiles, that kinda stuff.
I don't wanna think about sleeving everything!

haha you should try it! It's very funny! >:D

I've ordered from smiling-monster before (not sleeves), they're a very reliable shop in my experience.
I had a long conversation with the owner (?) at the UKGE in 2018, because they had a lot of old £10-notes that needed exchanging, as they had been removed from circulation and they were worried about how to go about it.
I just use small ziplocks for those 'special' tiles. At least until I can invest in a humidity controlled storage cabinet ;D ;D ;D

How much does shipping to Germany cost?
-
Can you try to add some to your basket and find out?
It looks straightforward:
https://www.smiling-monster.com/Kartenhuellen/Standard-Huellen/Kartenhuellen-47mm-x-47mm-160-Huellen-duenn::69.html
Looks like it's free over 20€, smiling-monster is based in Germany, so I'd expect reasonable rates.

How many sleeves do I need for both C1 and C2 collections? Including all of the promo mini expansions.
Are 1600 enough?

Do you need sleeves for the Russian tiles?

Check this WICA page and select the editions, sets and expansions you want to sleeve and you'll get the total number of tiles... ;D
https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Tile_Reference (https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Tile_Reference)
Remember to check all tile edge configurations and features...
-
Looks like 900 should be more than enough for a complete C1 and C2 collection.
I ordered 1600, gonna sleeve the Star Wars and old Hunters & Gatherers too since they are played often. Perhaps Ark of the Covenant too considering the bad quality of the tiles. Everything else should be fine without any sleeves.
Is it possible to sleeve double tiles like Castles in Germany's? Using 2.
-
DrMeeple did it for Halflings and MeepleFan for double tiles (if I remember correctly)... So everything is feasible...
A tutorial on sleeving simple tiles by MeepleFan is available here in Spanish (you can use Chrome to translate the page on the fly to your language of choice):
https://carcassonneblog.wordpress.com/tag/sobres-carcassonne/ (https://carcassonneblog.wordpress.com/tag/sobres-carcassonne/)
Still waiting for DrMeeple to post about his tricks about sleeving he promised some time ago. >:D
-
I don’t forget that! I will post it before this year ends.. I promise! :yellow-meeple:
-
With nice pictures! >:D
-
I have begun sleeving...it’s quite relaxing, though now my family is comparing me to some families we know on Staten Island that have plastic on their furniture.- :pink-meeple:
-
OK, my parents' generation is notorious for covering the TV with a piece of cloth and the remote in a plastic bag. But plastics on furniture?

Very nice. I'd feel right at home :-)
Google plastic sofa covers. Or watch Donnie Brasco. You'll see what I mean - :pink-meeple:

Don't make fun of the classic plastic-wrapping home decor style...
Sleeving tiles is just a jumpstart into a new dimension. >:D
-
Don't make fun of the classic plastic-wrapping home decor style...
Of course not, but my wife makes fun of me every chance she gets. It's part of our romance - :pink-meeple:
-
You can invite her to join the sleeving party! She shouldn't miss it. There won't be anything like it for a while... ;)
-
If my 8-year-old invites friends, can we call it a sleeve-over party? - :pink-meeple:
-
What a great idea! Are they prepared for sleeving with cheeto fingers?

Somehow my 18-year-old has convinced all other children to eat Cheetos with chopsticks https://www.thekitchn.com/eating-cheetos-with-chopsticks-are-you-a-fan-172001

This is a dexterity boost! ;)
-
Hahahaha, I eat Doritos with chopsticks. ;)

-
That picture is giving me some serious anxiety :o Meepledrone
-
Think of a cozy, happy place with sleeved tiles... ;D
-
Ahhh those images bring me back to childhood, when I would visit my grandparents. It seemed like every electronic except the coffee maker toaster had plastic coverings or crocheted covers, lol.

Today I see this message from you hahahaha
-
You must have been busy plotting against C2! >:D
-
Damn, was about to order but I was trying to calculate how many of those sleeves I would need for CI / CII / All spinoff ...
well, it's about 720 + 640 + ca. 13*80 soooo 2400 sleeves ....
I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to sleeve all that :)
-
Could somebody please share a photo with a tile in the sleeve so that I can have an idea what this is?
Thank you! :)
And question:
I imagine that you remove the sleeves when you play with the tiles?
-
Here's a picture of a few sleeved tiles, including some halflings:
(https://dub01pap001files.storage.live.com/y4m6WnSCj3pD_djukIEInw1OC0LBqCdL8TLXsRLwIfrTUyrtxjfOopUj6rvNIb93dF84lq_38M9caRsmL0ok5Fzgmfop97rk0lGgedO89yLMHKd3nriBIeoLgG-EIlEg_lUEQ_Nz7Ie3fB_3-VNkd4fmHPLMTJmnw-5QLPsxctAknyRCHe0lWgMQgUB4yquIk-R?width=660&height=399&cropmode=none)
It increases the space in between the tiles slightly.
I don't think anyone would remove the sleeves before playing, as they are not really meant to be reusable. I cut my sleeves down slightly for every tile, not just halflings, so it would be a big waste to have to do that over and over again after every game
-
The purpose of the sleeves is to protect the tiles WHILE people are touching them, so if sleeving is important to you, it's especially important during gameplay rather than while in storage.
(I'm personally not into sleeving, with the exception of my Dominion cards.)
-
Ah thanks a lot @Willem for the photos, now I can see better :D
And thanks to both of you for the explanations.
So they are adhesive but you CAN take them off without harming the tile, correct?
I was wondering if this could be something I am interested in, but I am not sure.
I like touching the tiles while playing but I can see that tiles get used and scratched and roughened.
I just bought a new (unused) C1 base game because our tiles show white sign of being worn.
This is why this threat caused my attention, but I cannot imagine playing with sleeves, I guess.
I have to think about it :)
But thanks for the quick reply :(y)
-
Yes, if you want, you can take them off.
I would agree with Scott that it defeats the purpose a bit, but of course it's up to you.
And the sleeves are not great at being reused, so they will probably not like it
