National Carcassonne Championships in 2015
« on: December 16, 2014, 05:53:32 AM »
I thought it would be a good idea to have a catch-all thread for 2015 national Carcassonne championships throughout the year. Post dates, locations, links and other information here, and if you compete in one, post your experience here too!

To begin with, I believe the UK Carcassonne Championships will be held at the UK Games Expo in Birmingham on the weekend of May 29-31. Our very own danisthirty competed in 2014 and I'm sure he will continue to compete every year until daniseighty.

It looks like the Australian Carcassonne Championships will be held in July as part of the Toy and Game Expo in Sydney. The dates for 2015 don't seem to have been fixed yet, but the Carcassonne championship is part of the wider Australian Boardgaming Championships.

If you have any other news about 2015 national championships, please let us know.

Good idea jungleboy, thanks for this!  :)

Further information regarding the format of the UK Carcassonne championships (and results) can be found here:

http://www.halesowenboardgamers.org.uk/expotournaments/2014/overall.htm

...and here:

http://www.halesowenboardgamers.org.uk/expotournaments/2014/carcassonne.htm

I don't know whether the championship will follow the same format next year or not, but some months ago I contacted Halesowen Boardgamers to suggest an alternative format based on a series of head-to-head games rather than 4-player "crapshoots" (as jungleboy so accurately described them).

If you're in the UK and are thinking about taking part in this then I can definitely recommend it! Udo Schmitz from Carcassonne on Tour will be presenting the trophy to the winner and has assured me that there will be "a few surprises for the participants" as well.  :(y)

See you there!  ;) :(y)

I notice that the Australian tournament is 2-player games only, with the final being staged as a best-of-three format. The rules are here.

Chile will hold its national championship in July 2015, though it's not an open championship and you must qualify first. The qualification tournaments will be 4-player, base-game only. Details (in Spanish) are at Devir Chile.

Classification tournaments are also beginning in Spain, although the date and location of the National Championship has not yet been announced (likely to be in June or July). More details (in Spanish) at the blog of Carcassonne Pieza de Inicio, who is also a member here.

The date for the UK Carcassonne championship has now been officially announced - Sunday 31st May, 10am to 3pm (up to 52 players):

http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/game.php?id=BOR1097

Unfortunately it's being run in the same way as it was last year. I can't see the sense in this considering that the top prize is the opportunity to represent the UK at the world championships and the world championships are run as a series of head-to-head matches, but... well, whatever.

PS - you can't buy tickets yet as the status for all events at the Expo is "Pre Booking Closed". I don't think this means they've all sold out already, I think it's more that they're not yet available...

When do I pay?

Public entry tickets can be paid for on the door or booked online now.

Event ticket booking will go live March 16th 2014.

I have been unable to find any information on a Canadian Carcassonne championship.

Anyone aware of anything for us poor, neglected residents of the Great White North????

I know I'm away on the 30th, but not sure where - but maybe I could append this to my trip!

It looks as though Snakes and Lattes in Toronto has hosted this championship in the past, so maybe keep an eye out on their website or their Facebook page.

They originally gave a date in March but the miniatures games went on sale about a week ago and the boardgames today. They sent out emails to let people know the earlier dates.
