Online Games and Competitions / The old Carcassone online game...
« on: May 28, 2018, 06:08:12 PM »
Been trying to play my online games with the old Carcassonne app recently, and was told that the server was off line. Does anyone happen to know if they've pulled the plug on that option? Just curious. I knew it was coming sooner or later. Hoping that the newer app will eventually get to some of the added expansions. And I suppose, I can still play the old app locally. Still, a bit sad to see an old friend get cut.

JCloisterZone FAQ, Suggestions & Bug Reports / Re: Opening JCloisterZone
« on: November 07, 2017, 07:08:13 AM »
Don't know if this is relevant. But I had a log in problem a few weeks ago after my system updated it's Windows 10 build. The difficulty was that the UAC, User Account Control, was set too high. The general thinking is not to turn it off. But that was the only way I could get on with JCloisterZone, and Everquest2.

Hope it helps.

I haven't graduated to the barn yet.  :-[  As you can see, I'm still getting the farm mechanics down.  The wagon, Princess and Dragon, are even more terrifying. But, ... it's all good fun. A little at a time. My graduation will be Towers.  ;)

Thanks everyone for all the input.  :(y)

We didn't play with castles or besiegers.

I stupidly did not take a screen shot. I can only assume that I must've missed another farm as Paul suggested.

I'm not sure I understand Adrornalin's point about scoring farms during the game. I thought farms only scored at the end of the gameplay. We didn't play with barns or wagons. Only TB, IC, Rivers I,II, and GQ Expansion.

Anyway, I am ready to accept it must've been just me missing another farm. I've never been the best "farmer".  :-[

Thanks for the input. Happy Gaming!

First of all, welcome back Farin. And thanks for all the hard work on this app.

I got the latest version, and have a question about scoring. My opponent got a score of 50 in his farms when the game ended. I am not sure how he got that score however. He did have his pig deployed. So, I gather that meant 4 pts per completed city touching his farm. I only counted 8 such cities. But in any case, I can't see how he could arrive at 50 with a 4 pt/city rule. Oh, the final window only showed he had one farm.

It might be just me. I'm not the best with farms. I usually leave it to my son when I play.

Again, welcome home.

Oh well. At least we have an excellent app as it is with Traders and Builders, and Inns and Cathedrals and Rivers. I should be happy with what we got.  ;)

I was referring to the "News" section of the app. The last item was over a year ago.

I was hoping to hear if the expansions, Crop Circles, and the Festival, were going to be added to the online person to person games. Also, would love to hear that other expansions were at least in the works. Maybe even an upgrade in the AI's. Just anything we might be able to anticipate for the app in the months ahead.

It has been over a year since the folks working with the Android app version of our beloved game have sent out any news. Does anyone know if they have given up on us? I believe the last news was in December 2015.   :(

I've used the plastic grids for quite some time now, over a year, and can say that I don't feel any pressure to place tiles based on the availability of space on the grid. I just play as I decide, and add grids as play dictates. But if it were subconscious, I guess I'd never know.  ::)

The beauty of using them is for those of us who are borderline compulsive and must straighten out the tiles before taking their turn. Yes, and even those who are compelled to straighten them after each play.   C:-) No more bumped table mishap.

Our House Rules include being able to shift the entire game if the tiles develop off to one side. Thus we do not include the "edge of the table" limitation until we absolutely have to. This ensures that the play focuses on the rules of play, rather than an artificial limit, such as the edge of the table. But these are just our house rules.

Maybe not for everyone. But grids are definitely appreciated in our house.  :(y)

I love the wooden tile holders!!! Presently I have the 3D printed plastic 3x3 tile holders from Thingiverse. They make playing so much neater, and free from worry of being jostled. Their only drawback was their cost. [approx $7 / grid]. These wooden ones are definitely affordable, and well worth our support.

Whew! Thanks. When you get to be my age, you check the obits. When a regular haunt disappears, we ancients of days get a bit panicky.  8)

I just noticed that the link to JCloisterZone is no more. I usually check in periodically to see what's happening with that game. Was there a particular reason why that section was removed? Just curious.  :o

I haven't ordered from CundCo Shop, so I haven't experienced any difficulties with them. But from an objective point of view, the letter struck me as genuine, and an honest attempt to explain their situation. For what it's worth, I'd say let's give them some slack, and try to be understanding. The last thing we want is to discourage them from supporting our beloved game. Just my two cents.

OMG. I'm telling myself to not panic. Went to the Exozet website, and they do not show the Carcassonne logo among their games. They show Catan. But not our game. Their last news of 2015 was so positive, about things to come, it's hard to believe they'd just drop the franchise. Especially since they're the only Android app with this game. Oh well.... I'm trying to breathe slowly and deeply.... until we get more news...  :-\

General / Re: Randomly-Drawn Starter Tile
« on: January 11, 2016, 11:40:57 AM »
Along the same lines of starting from a random tile, we've started these house rules...
We combine all tiles of the expansions we're using, including the river tiles, and just draw a random starting tile. When a river tile comes up, we play it as usual. If a tile comes us that is unplayable, we follow the normal rules of unplayable tiles, and remove it from play. This adds to the variety and challenge, since a "good" tile might be eliminated. It also makes the river more free form, since its tiles can show up at any time, and its effect of limiting the shape of the field of play not set at the very start of the game. You might even be able to use the river to throw a wrench in your opponent's plans.  >:D

We also draw from a homemade tower with three stacks. So, we have an honor rule, that whenever a river tile comes up, since the tile backs are distinctive, the next player has to draw that tile. If by chance the initial shuffle of tiles have more than one river tiles on the stacks, then we must use them first. This rarely happens. But, just in case.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcomed.
