Title: Mixing national versions of Carcassonne
Post by: espenlok on February 10, 2018, 03:09:16 AM
Hi guys! I have the English Version of the main game. I have now got two expansion sets (Traders and Buildes + Abbey and Major) in the Scandinavian version.

Would anyone know if mixing different national versions of the game would work without any trouble? Or do I need to try to change my expansions to the English version of the expansions?

With Settlers I know mixing national versions does not work, so I fear it could be the same with Carcassonne.

Sure, no problem!
All the Carcassonne games are basically language independent (apart from some versions of the wheel of Fortune.
There is no text on the tiles, so you can just mix it however you like!
Only the rules will be in different languages, but they can be found in any language online. And here in the forum, the CAR can be found!

Only the Russian tiles have different backsides (showing a "K" instead of a "C") but if you put them I a bag, predicting of wich tile you draw is impossible

More difficult, but not impossible. The Russian tiles are not cut to the same border shape as all the other tiles, and I believe they may be slightly larger or smaller (thought not sure about that second part). So as long as everyone is using good sportsmanship, no problem. If somebody is feeling around for differences in the tile corners, then you need to keep a sharp eye on that guy.

Not to confuse the OP's question: Welcome to Carcassonne Central btw.

I'd recommend avoid Russian Editions.  There is some minor variance in colour between American/European versions of tiles, but I've seen as much variance from expansions from the same publisher.  You'll be fine mixing them  :(y)

Obviously, the rules will be written in the local language - but PDF's and the CAR are online to assist  :(y)
