Long time, no see, friends!

We are trying to use JCloisterZone for the first time, to play with family members halfway around the world, but we can't figure out how to successfully host a game and have the other party join it.

I get that the host needs to click "New Game" and, while the host is still on the game setup screen, the other party needs to use the "Connect" button to join. But what exactly does the connecting party put in for the "Host" and "Port" fields? And how do I as the host know what those numbers are?

Is Host my computer's IP Address? And how do I find out my Port?

Thank you for any help!

Anything Else / Re: Other Hobbies than board games
« on: April 12, 2017, 11:48:21 PM »
My most recent hobby has been getting more into writing poetry. Here's a diverse little sample:

Morning Song
A short and sweet poem about my daughters
(This was in response to a poetry prompt. An "abhanga" is a quatrain with lines of 6-6-6-4 syllables, with only the middle two lines rhymed.)

In That Ill-Storied Man I See
A liturgical prayer inspired by Donald Trump (hah!)

The Heavens Draped In Sackcloth Sigh
A poem about snow

I'm currently posting something new about every week or two, across various publications. You can find an up-to-date list of my poems here if you're interested. :) It has been a fun creative/learning experience. If anyone wants to join me in it, let me know!

Merit for your review, whaleyland. Are you planning to share the custom "Jongleurs" chits? I would be very interested, especially after reading your review of that mechanic.

One important aspect of this expansion is this departure from the general and well-known rule which states that the score is counted "per tile".

If a road loops, connecting 2 road ends on the same cathedral tile, both ends are counted separately for scoring. In other words, the same cathedral tile is counted twice in this case. Also, when scoring the cathedral's bishop, road ends are always counted separately.
So if a Bishop is on a Cathedral with four Roads, that Cathedral will score an automatic four points, one for each Road?

Well, minimum 5 points because it needs to be connected to another road segment.

True. But if it's one of the FRRR German Cathedrals and you place it connected to another field, you could get away with 3 points, right?

My wife and I finally played this for the first couple times a few days ago. We both enjoyed it.

The Marketplace / Re: Lots of promos to trade/sell.

I'm interested in the Clank!: Brawn vs Boots card (and to a lesser extent, the Santorini: Tyche card, which will be released as part a future expansion anyway) but I don't have anything on your trade list. And while I have some blank tiles I'm not able to print straight onto them like Decar.

Are you interested in simply selling it? I also have some assorted Carcassonne things, in case anything catches your eye:

  • Temples in Japan
  • The Labyrinth (new art)
  • GA, GB, GD, and GE tiles from King Expansion
  • Two Corn Circles II tiles (from The Ferries and Goldmines)
  • Cloth Bag from the School - Green Meeple
  • Cloth Bag from Hills & Sheep
  • Carcassonne Scoreboard
  • 50/100 Scoring Tokens
  • Spare meeples: 1 normal gray follower ; 1 plain-wood follower; 1 plain-wood robber; 1 plain-wood woman follower

I staggered it by making 3 separate visits to the post office. Hopefully my plan worked out for the people in the UK, US, Germany, Latvia, Netherlands and Hungary too!

Impressive.

Arrived right on schedule (Tuesday here)! I had assumed I'd have to wait longer, given the extra distance, but I was wrong. :)

Thanks Dan!

I won't post a picture yet, so as not to ruin the surprise for anyone else but... I received my Advent Quiz prize from Dan today. I am... speechless. :))

(There has to be some sort of expansion rule possibility here using the danisthirsty meeple...)

Thanks Dan! :D

If it is as popular as it seems, it will be reprinted.

We have word already from one of the guys behind the game that they're already planning a reprint, "hoping for the fall of this year." It will include some minor rules corrections/clarifications for some of the gods that were a little unclean (or, in one case, wrong) in the first print run.

Well, I went ahead and grabbed a copy on Amazon US for $43. It's about $10 more than I originally was going to pay for the game (or would likely pay if I waited), but I realized it was worth $10 to me to enjoy the game now rather than wait for up to 18 months for it. So excited to play this in May when my parents-in-law bring it.

I've got my eye on the Golden Fleece too, pending Clank! Sunken Treasures' exact release date (since I've got them on a combined order to save shipping).

As for Thailand, buying designer games here is usually very expensive. There's almost never a localized version, since Thais aren't really into designer board games (yet), so you're pretty much always paying a premium for importing. FLGS are few and far between. Having people bring stuff from the US is by far the best option I've thought of, unless dealing with game stuff that can fit in small packages (like ArtsCow decks or small orders from Cundco).

Sad over here... I think I missed the boat on buying Santorini's first printing (at least at a decent price) while waiting on Clank! Sunken Treasures to do a combined order. Roxley says they're "hoping for" a reprint in the Fall, which means I might be waiting 18 months to get my hands on this one, unless I want to shell out $70 for it now. :(

How was your experience with artcow?
Time it took to fulfill an order etc

Also Are you able to customize the backs on artcow

My experience was good. You can customize backs if you order a certain type of playing deck, but I did a 3-decks-for-$18 deal a while back where each deck of 54 had to have the same back. (In other words, you could have three different card-backs overall.) There's another 3-for-$18 deal going on right now too. If you find some other fun print-n-play card games, this can be great. I got a re-themed version of Reiner Knizia's Battle Line (see the link in my earlier post for a pic), and I've also seen re-themes of other card games like Hanabi, Lost Cities, etc. Some don't quite fit in a 54-card deck but you can always do what I did and have the same back across two or three decks, which lets you split things up however you want.

General / Re: The 10th expansion (Under the Big Top) - poll
« on: March 11, 2017, 12:48:14 AM »
Anyone else wish this were a Merchants & Troubadours expansion instead? I mean, ringmasters and the tents could just be replaced with merchants and town markets. The Troubadours could be the silly pyramid mechanic. I feel this was poorly themed and thought out and could have been implemented much better.

Couldn't agree more, Whaleyland!  That theme would be way more fitting, either in the historical sense as in a aesthetic sense.
So, I will not buy this expansion either.  I'll focus on adding those few mini-expansions still missing in my V1-collection.

I agree too! This is the winner, right here: an old-art-style fan-expansion version with Under the Big Top's rules but a Merchants & Troubadours theme. :(y) :(y)

I recently ordered a deck of these myself (photo here). Echoing whaleyland, I would recommend adding German Cathedrals and The Labryinth -- attached below -- and Watchtowers and Under the Big Top if you plan to use Carcassonne 2.0 expansions.

You could also consider adding cards for a few favorite fan expansions like I did; I'd be happy to share some of the already-made cards I have for many of them.
