it does look as through it would have been very enjoyable to have been there,  a nice low key event.

BrainGames (license partner from HiG) did the organizion of this tournament. It was the 8th Carcassonne Championship in Latvia.

Udo Schmitz (Carcassonne-on-Tour) called with BrainGames and he put some surprisings in his luggage for the participants and also the new t-shirts for the team.

Do you think there's any chance that Udo Schmitz could contact Halesowen Boardgamers (halesowen.bg@gmail.com) about their running of next year's UK Carcassonne championship?

For one thing it would be nice if they had enough copies of the base game that they didn't have to ask people to bring their own copies (and consequently lose bits - :(). If they could also be persuaded that a competition based on 2-player games rather than 4-player games would be more appropriate then that would definitely be for the best as well.

If nothing else I think it would be good for him to help build Carcassonne's image in the UK as it's a relatively well-known game but there doesn't appear to be a lot of publicity for it.

I don't understand, why national championship's format could differ from World championship's format.
Here in Latvia the format is maximally close to the Worlds. 4-player format is something exceptional.

We have here in Germany two different tournament modes for qualifikations tournaments.

one tournament mode is with 4 players.

The winners of these qualifikations tournaments then comes to Spiel in Essen for the German championship and then the winner is a day later one of the participants in the world championship.

this tournament mode is with 2 players.

So it sounds as though the 4-player competition is just a qualifier for the 2-player national competition?

This year we have 12 qualifikations tournaments.

tournament mode 1 is with 4 players.
tournament mode 2 is with 2 players.

The organizer provides the games. The Organizer chooses one of the two tournament modes.

Herner Spielezentrum is the organizer of our tournament rules and for the German championship and for the world championship
-----------------
We also have the ranking tournament here in Germany.

There are also two different tournament modes possible.
The participants need their own games.

Did he creep up behind him during his semi-final and then jump out and shout "Boo!" in his face? That would be quite special. And very surprising.

Yes, Udo gave me some special surprisings! :D Amongst them - "Carcassonne: Mayflower"! I didn't have it till the moment, now I do :) Didn't have a chance to try it yet, but rules are quite exciting!
Also Udo gave me a special sign (some kind of "breastplate", don't know how to describe/translate it right), it's a little red follower, that can't be bought, it is fixed on the clothes and symbolizes that the holder is a true/faithful fan of Carcassonne (I hope I understood Udo right)  8)

Udo had watched my semi-final game and saw that key moment of connect. If he would do "Boo" to my opponent before that moment, this would also be quite special and quite surprising :)) :)) :))

I don't have such a meeple. MrNumbers, you are a very lucky to have such special meeple.
Perhaps you can make a photo from it?

I gave Udo the tip to look at the profile of MrNumbers and Udo has found something.

I am guessing that the correct word would be TABARD a concept familiar to World of Warcraft
